Such a beautiful location with great accommodation in the lodges. Service from everyone was top rate - everyone had a smile and time to chat and be friendly. And the food!!! The food was some of the best we have ever eaten - the Kudu steak was divine. The little extras like the water in flasks in the fridge, the rusks, the nougat were all very welcome.
It was my first visit here and it is without a doubt one of the nicest places I have ever stayed at. I particularly appreciated the friendly management and staff, the beautiful landscaping and the design of the chalets, which maximize view of the awesome amphitheatre. Although it didn’t get very cold during my stay, the chalets have sufficient heating options to ensure a cozy stay, even in the depths of winter. I really enjoyed all the fine meals – prepared by an excellent chef! Altogether a lovely stay –thanks to all at Montusi.
We loved the spacious two room chalet with terrace, open fire place and underfloor heating. The large rock pool must be very refreshing in summer. The beautiful scenery and mountains surrounding the lodge make it a perfect destination for hikers. I could have stayed for weeks.
To have had the privilege to experience the Drakensburg from the comfort and location of Montusi Lodge is something we will treasure for the rest of our lives. The position of the garden suite (22), which we stayed in for three nights, is nothing less than amazing. You go to sleep with the image of the Amphitheater and you wake up with it. It is awe inspiring. Plenty of hikes around the lodge or a bit further at the National Park. Your first hike should be with one of the lodge’s guides to get a feel of the place. Victor was able to entertain us with lots of interesting stories of the surroundings and on which we could hang our hats on during our following “solo”hikes, which are very well signposted. The comfort of the garden suite after a decent walk is so welcome. Especially…
Convenient yes. Comfortable yes. Charming no and that unfortunately applies to the rooms, the common areas and the hospitality. Go there is you’re willing to hike and be outdoors all day (that was our intention but it rained for the entire duration of our stay) but if you want to rest in a cozy place then look for another alternative. The food is just fine, really nothing to get excited about.
