My daughter recently got married and had her reception and accommodation at Montusi It is a beautiful place overlooking the imperious amphitheater The food was delicious and the service good The accommodation is sumptuous and well appointed. Certainly worth a visit Highly recommended
Great location away from civilisation but easy to find from the directions given. Accommodation is of a very high standard and are effectively suites with a separate bedroom area and an outside deck. Covered carport too so you can park right outside the door. Unfailingly charming staff and the food was of a very high standard with a small choice provided each evening. This can include local produce. Exceptionally good value wines from the Vrede and Rust vineyard with a wide range stocked. Time can easily be spent just watching the birds in the garden with the amphitheater in the background. Guided hikes are included, including to a local rock art site, but all routes are well signposted so are easily self guided. A useful leaflet with all the walks is provided. All in all on…
We spent two enjoyable nights here on our three week driving tour out of Durban. This is a beautifully appointed lodge with spacious modern, but character suite accommodation in indivual cottages with the added bonus of easily-lit gas fires in the seating area, whic we needed in the unseasonally cold weather. Lovely walks of various different difficulties and duration straight out of hte lodge and well mapped and signposted. Of particular interest, the bushmen cave paintings with an easy 1 1/4 hour round trip. Good food, with choice for each of three courses at dinner, but not quite as good as the excellent meals we enjoyed on the rest of our trip
Firstly I would rank this place 5* lodges are well designed and beautifully finished, underfloor heating in the bathroom and living fire in the lounge for the chilly nights, facing the mountains the scenery is breathtaking, lots to do on site, horse riding, fly fishing, organised hike every day swimming or just sitting on the terrace soaking it all in. Communal areas are cosy and welcoming. The staff are first class, and the food is tasty and fresh, I have loved every dish eaten here, the lunch menu is extensive and very well priced. This beautiful family run property is a gem because of the attention to detail and quality of finish, I loved every minute here and will definitely return
A truly fantastic 3-night stay that we wish had been a week or more. The setting is unbelievable, the views from the lodge are really special. The garden suite we stayed in (15) had such character and space, we really enjoyed being there. Lovely pool area to relax by, and the teatime treats in the lounge area were definitely appreciated. Indeed, the food throughout was a real highlight, at every meal - we'd return just for that Kudu steak alone...! Of course, we enjoyed both walking on the many trails by the estate and in the nearby Royal Natal park, the scenery is stunning. But we also loved the trip organised by the lodge to see the nearby village, and could only recommend it to others. All the staff we came across were super friendly and helpful, but a special mention to 2…
