We stayed at the "guest Lodge" on the Engeleni Farm called Invicta, which I see is not listed on trip advisor for good reason. The place is run down and filthy, the cleaning staff inexperienced and the dams not maintained. All in all we will not be returning. On a more positive note the setting is gorgeous and it is such a pity that the owners are taking no interest in the upkeep of the lodge itself. It is also inexpensive but, again, for good reason. We spent one night at Engeleni and that was enough. Firstly when we arrived we asked the staff to please change the towels as they had been used. Likewise the pillow cases. The lady on duty changed the towels but not the linen. Blankets were not clean. We also asked for toilet paper to be put in the one room and sugar and milk in all the rooms. She supplied the toilet paper but not the sugar and milk. Later in the evening we noticed no soap in the second bathroom. This bathroom also had a dirty towel behing the door and a bin full of dirty disposal baby's nappies. How long these had been there we dont know. Linen in all the rooms was stayed When we returned that evening to our beds, all of us (Five Guests) noticed small red worms in all the beds. We were horrified and only slept an hour or so for fear of being bitten. Clearly the staff is not cleaning the rooms. Sue Koch…
Our 2-night stay at Engeleni took an unfortunate turn that first started with a very welcome (plus road guidance) by hosts Sue and Graham. We were not accommodated in the Mayfly Cottage though, as booked, but in the main Lodge - because (literal quote from the host) "this is easier for catering and housekeeping". Not that the host actually asked for our consent but since we were the only guests at the time, we did not object. Having just arrived after a difficult and tiring drive, we were happy to be fed immediately and were deeply impressed with the dinner (both food quality and presentation). Things became annoying, however, when we noticed that our doors did not shut properly (i.e. sleeping with a view of the main hallway) and when our host showed obvious disapproval after we had chosen to spend the day differently from his recommendations. The initial warm welcome transformed into a rather stoney farewell when, on the night before our departure, the host had decided that he would not get up to see us off and that his staff would not provide the fully cooked breakfast (as booked) - which ended up being a poorly served and disappointing attempt of a continental breakfast. We suspected that without the host present, his staff did not see the point in putting in the required effort. Engeleni Lodge is targeted at (well-paying) flyfishing tourists and therefore usually accommodates groups who are fully catered for in this remote location, charging substantial rates. Not ticking any of these boxes, we must have fallen into the lesser favourite category of guests. Overall, it is much too expensive for what you get.…
