I spent a week at the Mahai camp with my father and was very pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness and very well maintained grounds. The camp has numerous hiking trails that start from the camp and the most awesome views of the Drakensberg from your camp site. The lawn was super to camp on and beats hard ground anyday and the ablutions where spottless...
Great campsite and the staff are very pleasant and helpful, I highly recommend this venue. Facilities are good are well looked after. Some of the best views and hikes in the Drakensberg on your doorstep. Minimal perishable foods in the only little shop at the reception.
Lovely camp site. Amenities all close by. Warm shower, electricity and a tumble dryer should anything get wet. Views to wake up to in the morning are just breathtaking, although the baboons barking in the morning can get a bit annoying, (Not a complaint, not as if we can control animals in their natural habitat) Make sure you bring enough alcohol though, the nearest place to get any is quite a bit away.
We have camped here over many years. Our last visit was for a long weekend in March as part of a family group of six adults and four children. This is a camp site with lots of stands on well kept lawns. In spite of high occupancy the ablutions are kept clean and tidy. There is also a play area for the kids. The real attractions, however, are the beautiful setting in nature, the many hikes and the mountain stream to swim and play in. The camp site gets busy over school holidays and long weekends but the occupancy never exceeds the capacity of the ablutions and other facilities. Book well in advance if you want to visit in these periods. We will definitely visit again and again.
Bus loads of children ( large tour buses) who scream all day and into the night. use of public adress system in the camp site. Many campers had to move their site to try move away from the noise. Not for nature lovers who enjoy piece and quiet.
