Gariep is the perfect stopover between Gauteng and the Cape, 180 km south of Bloemfontein, just off the N1. Situated on the banks of Gariep Dam, the largest dam in South Africa, and bordering the Gariep Dam Nature Reserve, it straddles the borders of three provinces, namely Free State, Northern Cape and Eastern Cape. The caravan park consists of 106 sites, all with electricity and serviced by two communal ablutions and a laundry. There are also 16 luxury caravan sites each with their own ablution facilities. Accommodation consists of 44 two or three bedroom chalets newly refurbished, and 12 luxury one or two bedroom chalets. Our on-site restaurant, the Quenna Bistro, can seat up to 120 persons, and boasts a ladies bar and outside deck with a splendid view. Activities and facilities include: tennis and a driving range, fishing (own equipment), kiosk and swimming pool.

Great experience having ones own private ablution facility right next to our camp site. Each campsite has a paved area for the camper, and grass surrounds. Tree for shade thrown in for good measure. The ablution is up market, tiled to the roof and the kitchen area very clean.

Very relaxed stay, beautiful area, chalets very clean and beds sleeps comfortably, bedding clean and fresh, staff friendly and restaurant staf friendly and food good. Sleep four chalets fairly priced, would like that two sleep chalets price per person in line as within the four sleep chalets. Overall it’s value for money.

The camping facilities where awesome and very neat. Only improvement needed is the gras at the sites near the dam. To much thorns and very dry. Otherwise a very good experience and very good camping site.

Brief overnight stay at Gariep Forever Resort on our way to KZN. Lovely resort and staff very welcoming. Would have liked to stay longer and bring our family along. Unfortunately, as resident in Western Cape, not really feasible.

I stayed 4nights for camping with my partner and it was such a lovely experience. The ablution block is very clean and well maintained. Overall the staff is friendly and it's home away from home. Would definitely come back.

Family vacation. We wanted to relax and the children to have some fun at the resort. The resort is in a beautiful part of the country. The service was great. The condition of the resort is not up to date. The grass was very long at certain places. Weeds were growing at places. The resort is so beautiful and with some touches could be perfect. The stream is not flowing throug the resort. The gereral maintenance can be better. The gardens are not kept neatly. Irrigation system not working. Bowls area very untidy.

Dusty and tired from our road trip we happened apon Gariep A Forever Resort . We had not pre booked but it was off season , so we thought we would take a chance. It looked so fancy we thought it would be really expensive , but we were so tired we were prepared to pay a little more. To our surprise the price was really affordable and the place amazing ! The bathroom facilities are absolutely tops and I had the best ablution I had had in days . My husband and I actually decided that maybe we would make Gariep a destination on the next holiday - not just a stop over !

Gariep Dam is a good place to spend a night/day when traveling from the Northern parts of the country to the coast (eg Cape Town or Gqeberha). We've tried a number of accommodations around the Dam on different trips and the Forever Resort gave us the best experience so far. We were however slightly inconvenienced with the lack of a bathtub in the chalet we stayed in. With young children a shower is not ideal. The overall experience was great and we'll definitely be back to try other chalets on our next trip to the coast.
