Welcome: Lovely friendly welcome from Prudence. Zandra was also great at recommending places for food.
Room: Modern fresh decor. Everything you needed, lots of space and a lovely balcony with both sun loungers and table and chairs.
The living area and shared kitchen are super clean and modern. We had a fire outside on our first night which was just wonderful. There were marshmallows to roast and port and gin on offer to try - a really nice touch.
Big bonus was the filtered water on tap to fill up water bottles and the beach towels, umbrellas all on offer for guests to use.
Stairs down to direct access to the beach.
Probably won’t visit J-bay again but if we did we would come back here.

This review is relatively objective being my 17th road trip staying at 18 properties over a 43 night period.
I stayed solo for 7 nights in March, this being a return visit. Efficient and welcoming staff.
Relatively easily found with secure parking available.
The very high standards experienced in all areas on my first visit have been maintained.
This large and relaxingly luxurious house is in a perfect position overlooking the Supertubes surfing beach.
All top class amenities for self catering are present. Shops and restaurants within walking distance.
Great selection of books in the large library.
My large Oceanic room on the top floor had stunning views out over the beach and sea - the deck being perfect for early morning sunrise coffee or something stronger at sunset. Luxurious bed linen and well equipped.
An inverter provided sufficient back up power during load shedding.
Good WiFi throughout.
If J Bay is on my itinerary in 2025 I’ll be back in a flash!
Highly recommended.

Easy move in and stay. Proximity to the beach almost made it private. Jessica was a Gem!!! She was always there and available to clean up and offer us suggestions, whilst not being intrusive. The fire pit is the most amazing feature of the property. Jessica was an integral part of the whole experience as she always kep that furnace burning. What a lovely experience, we will visit this place twice a year so long as it’s available

We stayed for one night. We stayed in one of the top floor rooms and the room was large and spacious with amazing views. We wish we could have stayed longer. The owner was very friendly and helpful and interested in making your stay enjoyable. The common areas are beautiful too. Breakfast was delicious. One thing I wish was changed was lighting in the room. It was very bright and glaring and took away from the romantic setting. Something that could be easily fixed with a dimmer switch.

A beautiful house with a very stylish ambience. Spacious rooms with huge terraces and fantastic sea views. Self catering, i.e. no breakfast service, but there are nice places nearby where you can have a good breakfast. The house can also be rented with a larger group, it is equipped with a large, very nice kitchen.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Shaloha for only one night as we made our way along the garden route from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth. One night was not nearly enough. The location is perfect; right on the beach with views of supertubes and easy beach access. The guest house is impeccable and our room was perfectly appointed with every detail accounted for. We even got to enjoy a traditional South African braai at the house hosted by the proprietors Ross and Zandra who went above and beyond what would ever be expected of them. We both agree that Shaloha was our favorite stay during our two week stay in South Africa and we cannot wait to return someday.
Shaloha was perfect for us as a couple; very romantic, quiet, and such beautiful scenery but would also be absolutely perfect for a group of friends or a family as the living spaces are a great hangout for groups.
If you need to fly into our out of Port Elizabeth and are looking for nearby lodging Shaloha is a great alternative to staying in PE. It is close, an easy drive, and a much more picturesque location. If you are a surfer needing lodging, look no further, the proximity to supertubes couldn't be better!
The only thing I would have changed would have been to stay in one of the second story rooms as there are better views of supertubes from that height. Our room was still incredible but we found ourselves going upstairs to the deck to watch the surfers and waves pretty often.
Thank you Ross and Zandra for such a lovely visit and we hope to see you both again someday!

My wife and I spent five nights here and thoroughly enjoyed it. The house is intimate, with only five rooms and a maximum guest count of 10 people. From a surfer's perspective, the location is incredible. From the second level balcony you have a clear view of Supertubes. The management and staff were extremely accommodating and were warm, welcoming, and friendly.

It was our second visit to Shaloha Guesthouse and we will be back again! The views are incredible, friendly service and excellent breakfast. The staff go out of their way to make our stay as comfortable as possible. I won't ever forget the schools and schools of dolphins swimming past our balcony almost every day. It is a memory I will cherish. Thanks again team Shaloha for your lovely hospitality!!!
