This was our 4th visit to the Riverbend over the last 15 years and it’s just charming and wonderful. Debbie and her team work so hard to look after you. We stayed in peppergrove for first time and loved the space and views. Moses was great and Ryan stepped into some big shoes to guide us perfectly with wonderful enthusiasm and knowledge. Think you guessed it - we will be returning!

Dear MXHLondon, Wow!! and Thank you for your stunning review, and for taking the time to put pen to paper. We just love the fact that your Home from Home is still exactly that, and I am so delighted that you loved PepperGrove, that extra space is such a blessing. I will pass on your comments to Moses, who is an absolute treasure and to Ryan who will be very relieved that he was able to carry the baton on from Darlington. We wish you all a super family Christmas and may the 2024 year be only kind to you all. See you soon. Sincerely Debbie & The RiverBend Lodge Team

I can definitely recommend Riverbend lodge!
Comfortable accommodation and relaxing, colonial atmosphere with beautiful lodge gardens. The wine list is great but here and there the food can be improved; but overall the meals are great!
The game drives were very good and we explored parts of Addo we never knew existed with interesting biodiversity.
The birding was great and Christiaan, our field guide, has extensive knowledge! We saw 74 species in 2 days!
The rest of the staff are wonderful as well!
Thanks for an enjoyable weekend!

Dear MOSLang, Thank you for taking the time to post your review on RiverBend Lodge. I am so delighted that you loved RiverBend as much as we do, and you are right Christiaan is an absolute Gem. As one of our birding specialists he really is passionate and loves nothing more than to share his love for the bush and nature, his knowledge is astounding. Thank you for your mention on the food, in light of this, we have with us for a full 2 months, a specialist training Chef to train up our younger staff and to shake up our existing Chefs. Sincerely, Debbie and the RiverBend Lodge Team

We were so fortunate to have the whole to ourselves and we were thoroughly spoilt. Debbie and Ryan were very kind at check in and check out. Darlington was so lovely on our game drives and so knowledgeable. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Our honeymoon suite had its own pool and that is just wonderful. Definitely worth a visit.

Dear CapeTownJules, Thank you so much for your wonderful review. It truly is such an amazing feeling, when you are the only people in such an awesome place, surrounded completely by nature. I will pass on your comments to the Team, as it means the world to them to get recognition for their efforts over a GUESTS stay with us. Thank you. We have had a bit more rain since you were here, and are looking forward to some new green grass emerging for the animals. We cannot wait to welcome you back, sometime in the future. Take care until then, Sincerely, Debbie & The RiverBend Lodge Team.

Old time luxury. A staff that quickly feels like family. Delicious expertly prepared meals. Beautiful and cozy accommodations. The River Bend Lodge team and property were simply perfect. While everyone was fantastic, Solomon (our incredibly knowledgeable and friendly guide) and Moses (our wonderfully kind and welcoming waiter/ general everything guy) were stand outs. The game drives with Solomon were educational, with beautiful game viewing. He took care to make it a truly special experience. River Bend takes a safari to the next level by working around your individual interests and tastes, to include daily activities and schedule, which is something we didn’t really appreciate until subsequent heavily scheduled and rigid safari lodges. Bottom line, come here. Ask for Moses. Ask for Solomon. And enjoy a memorable experience.

We had decided last-minute dot com, to head to Addo. The park's accommodation was full and so we started searching elsewhere, but in the park. We found and booked River Bend Lodge and had the most amazing time. The attention to detail, the friendliness, the willingness to please...was all above expectations! Our daughters saw a magnificent lion on their morning game drive, which was a highlight, and came back bursting with excitement and information. Special mention must be made of the food and restaurant service...both were exceptional! Compliments to the chef!

Hi Can you self drive the park from River Bend?
Answer from rqf61
Sydney85 contributions102 helpful votes
Yes, as others have mentioned, you can. We did this over 2-3 days and saw some game in the Park itself, though not an enormous amount. Often we saw more game on the road from our accommodation to the entrance of River Bend (a dirt road of a few kilometres if I remember correctly, and one which you take to get to and from the Park), so if you do self drive do look out on this stretch. If you do one of the guided tours from River Bend you leave the accommodation in a different direction, but this is not permitted for self-drive.

Make sure to bring the hats and sunscreen as I am sure we will be blessed with a beautiful sunny summer day. The elephants came and paid us a visit for our Christmas lunch last year, so let's hope that we are part of their plans again this year! We are looking forward to hosting you this Christmas! See you soon

Good day Sheena, The Long Hope Villa is a beautifully restored farmhouse set in a private location nestled between the Zuurberg Mountains and is situated on our 14 000ha private concession of the Addo Elephant National Park. The Villa offers a high standard of accommodation throughout and provides a peaceful retreat for families such as yours. When staying at the Villa, one enjoys the luxury and exclusivity of the ultimate African experience as a private chef and personal guide are provided. The Villa can accommodate up to six guests in three en-suite bedrooms with walk-in dressing rooms. The activities provided are tailored to your personal needs and wants; these include morning and sunset game drives, birding, wine tasting, photographic support and pampering spa treatments. The Villa has a private pool and sunset viewing deck with a daybed and is the perfect location for some down-time. The temperatures in August are mild and range from 5°C to 25°C with the evenings and mornings being fairly chilly. In the Eastern Cape we enjoy summer rains thus August is relatively dry as it falls within our winter bracket. I know that we will be able to provide you and your family with the most memorable African safari experience. If you have any further questions/queries please do not hesitate to contact us. Kind regards, Anthony Lovell and the River Bend Team
Answer from Leilani S
Hi Juls, River Bend has two options, you can either book Bed and Breakfast or an All inclusive option. The All inclusive option will include two game drives per day. You can contact their reservations department to make arrangements for you.
