This was my 8th year at the Commander. I was on the 3rd floor, oceanfront. While the view and location are great, things are not so good with the new ownership and management. I will say that they, along with probably every other property, were short handed. The place used to be immaculate. Not so anymore. While our room was clean and showed a couple of updates, there were issues with the cleanliness of the carpet, microwave, silverware, etc. I know they use a local laundry service but the sheets were stained and rough and the towels are like sandpaper; the pillows were flat and hard. The AC went the first day we were there but was replaced immediately. Even with new AC, its very loud. The grills, tools and area were dirty the whole time and sparse. My biggest beef is that both guests in the 3rd floor oceanfront rooms were smoking on the balcony. We did tell them to stop and I mentioned it to the clerk at check out. I suggest signs on the balcony doors in big RED letters saying NO SMOKING!!! I am hesitant to book there again. The owner and manager really need to police this place and bring it back to its previous standard and I hope they take this and the previous complaints seriously. This used to be a great place. Unfortunately, not so much anymore.

I booked this room at the last minute for a mini getaway, and was well aware the rooms were dated. However, I did expect it to be clean based on other reviews. We had a first floor room that smelled moldy. There was hair in the tub, as well as on the sheets. (Luckily I had brought extra blankets and pillows). Unfortunately, I had an asthma attack during the night, and ended up sitting outside for a few hours until my breathing improved. I haven’t had an attack in years, so can only assume it was from the moldy carpet/AC unit. We alerted the manager the following morning and asked for another room. We were told they were booked, even though there were a few families that checked out that same morning. When we asked for one of those rooms, we were told “no, but maybe try opening the window in the room instead”. (The only window in the unit faced the alley). My husband and I just looked at each other in disbelief! There was no way I was sleeping there another night, and we ended up finding another motel 2 blocks away. No refunds for the unused nights, no attempt by management to rectify the situation at all. He didn’t even offer to have someone clean the room. The staff at the other motel went out of their way to get our room ready within the hour, so we didn’t lose any more vacation time. We will be staying there from now on.

As a Travel Agent and someone who knows hotels, I can honestly tell you-DO NOT STAY HERE! There are plenty other small local hotels to choose from that you will be better off with. Checked in for our family vacation in an oceanview rooms and did not get one. Was told that this is their oceanview room, but not an ocean in sight. If we were on one of the other upper floors we would have had an oceanview, but were told it was sold out and we could not get one. When we said, but this room is not oceanview, we were told I know, by the manager. but we only have two room types oceanfront and oceanview. So since they make you pay half in advance and then immediately charge balance before you go to your room, we were screwed. When we complained they said well you agreed to the rate. Yeah, for a room that we didn't get! Beds are NOT comfortable and the sheets do not cover the bed, only lay on top of it. If you have anyone staying on the sofa sleeper in the front room, they will be very hot. Their customer service is horrible. Cleanliness-the room smells musty, there were earrings and misc items on the floor that had never been vacumned up. The towels are ripped. And they do not clean the kitchen utensils between customers, they expect the previous customers to do it. And you are supposed to trust this is done?? According to their Covid-19 information on their website, guests must opt in for daily housekeeping, which we did not want to do as we did not want anyone else in the room during this time of high transmissions. However, housekeeping came in daily when we weren't there and changed out our towels and toiletries anyway. Parking, you need to have a small car as the parking spaces are unusually small. Only good I can say is the hotel is on the beach. But be prepared for a very long walk to get to any restaurants. Their is one breakfast/lunch spot a block away in another hotel, which is actually good. But otherwise, you have to take your car to get to any dinner or other restaurants. Good luck travelers!

Booked a "ocean view" room a month ahead of time. When we arrived we were given a room that looks at the parking lot and bbq's. When I went back to the front desk and stated my room does not have an ocean view the Manager said "I know, were completely booked". I said "ok, then why am I paying for a ocean view?". "That's the rate you agreed to" he stated. The town is booked so I have no choice but to pay it. Thieves, truly theives . I highly recommend not staying here!

I rarely take the time to write a review. The accommodations were awful! Where do I start? According to the first page on their website, it is supposed to be a 100% non smoking facility. It is not enforced. There is smoking everywhere. The management says “it’s hard to control” but there is really no effort to enforce it. People return because they know that. We stayed in a 2 room suite for 2 days and then had to switch to a different one for 4 days, so I can comment based on more than one room. Both suites had air conditioning in one room which was extremely loud and did not cool the 2nd room. And, you could smell cigarette smoke coming from somewhere when the air conditioning was running at night. Both rooms had ceiling fans which helped move the stale air around. The bathtub in one suite did not drain well. The toilets in both suites were outdated and inches off the ground. The rooms all had musty odors and were not really kept clean. The electrical was outdated and a power strip was hanging in one room for the fridge, coffee maker, tv,… Parking is sparse and spaces are very small if you have a larger vehicle. Beds were very uncomfortable. Linens were old. Towels were like sand paper and most were torn or had holes. The only positive comment I have is that access to the beach is great.
