The hotel was clean and well looked after, Staff were friendly and check in and out were very simple. It's pricey, but that's Cape May. Our only complaint was that even though the rooms are non smoking every room has an ash tray outside and lots of people were smoking on the deck. This is really annoying to those of us who do not smoke and are allergic to it, especially since the front window has a jalousie window that lets in all the smoke to the rooms. Also there was someone smoking a cigar at the beautiful pool - disgusting smell. We would definitely return to this hotel in the off season,
Bring your own shampoo. No restaurant. However, right across the street from the beach, very reasonable rates, and very pleasant. We would absolutely stay here again. A short distance from the center of Cape May, but much quieter.
Older motel but has been renovated. Small TV, softer mattress, very clean. We rented a room with fridge, coffee maker, toaster and microwave which is more expensive. Nice staff, good pool and right across the street from the beach. Comfortable walk to town. We spent just one night and it met our needs. Like all hotels you bring your own coffee and wear masks when going to the lobby.
We have vacationed in Cape May for over 40 years, we've always loved the place and have been to this motel numerous times. After having been in OC Maryland in a hotel that was incredible, and about $75 a night less than the Mt. Vernon (we had an ocean front with balcony in OC), we won't be returning to the Mt Vernon. We walked into the room and it was 90+ degrees as the AC was off, not sure when it was on last. The room had a musty smell to it, but after running the AC a couple of hours, the smell went away. However, whenever the AC turned off, the smell came back. The room was ok, however I think it was the first hotel I've stayed at that didn't at least have a coffee maker in the room. TV was old, but it worked. Biggest turnoff were the number of people smoking in front of their rooms. I'm not sure about the smoking policy at other hotels in Cape May, but I think everyone that smoked stayed at this hotel. When you're not exposed to it much anymore, the smoking was annoying as we couldn't sit in front of our room due to it. Sorry Mt. Vernon, we won't be returning.…
Motel was spotless and in a great location. The cleaning people were thorough and friendly. The view from our room was amazing and they also have a sundeck on the second floor. Great clean Motel which I would recommend to friends, clients and family.
