We accidentally “found” this treasure while doing a general search of hotels in the area. I was fairly excited after reading reviews. When we arrived I was delightfully surprised at how much better it was in person ( I already thought it looked great)
This is a nice, quaint, eclectic, interesting, FRIENDLY place to stay with staff that went above and beyond for our entire stay! I would live here if I could! Loved the size of the rooms, linens, comfortable beds, gorgeous bathroom. All of the recommendations from Supervisor Eric were not only spot on, but places I will visit every single time I go! A great holiday weekend at an excellent price! Stay here, the location is great!

We chose to stay at the Border House based on the Trip Advisor reviews, and we were somewhat disappointed with our experience.

Pros--Large room with fireplace, whirlpool, and lots of luxuries. Bed very comfortable. Nice large screen TV. The building was smoke-free.

Cons--It was a bit difficult to find the area in the casino for check-in, and once we found it, we had to wait quite a while for someone to assist us. That individual and the individual who checked us out were not at all friendly. We did not feel welcome and we felt we were actually an intrusion.
Our room was right next to a busy street, and we were really bothered by the street noise. The room, although large, was not comfortable. The only chair to sit in was a desk chair. There was no lounging chair. The room was amazingly dark and drab. We found it odd that there was no door between the bedroom and the bathroom(only a curtain) . The toilet was separated from the rest of the bathroom, but again, no door.

It appears that other Trip Advisor members gave positive reviews, but we would not return.

The border house is a historic house listed in the National registry. Beautifully furnished ,very intimate and private. Private patio downstairs, room with kurig coffee makers, fireplace, Wi-Fi, music and lovely bathroom with shower and Jacuzzi bathtub.
The steakhouse restaurant attached to the casino is great.fabulous food, atmosphere.
And across the street is a delightful small restaurant that is in a restored log cabin.
Loved it

This property is so dark and claustrophobic that it was anxiety inducing. We requested a refund and both the Border House and Trip Advisor are saying it’s up to the other party to authorize the refund. We did not stay there and do not recommend it. Location is terrible and we are now going to start the dispute process with our credit card company.

Came up for a concert and was not disapointed.... Bill Wood and staff are great folks. Don't expect any spa or pool amenities, just private top end rooms. Great spa down the street at the Hyatt. Will definetly visit again!

My husband and I stayed here for a brief anniversary get away. We never plan to spend much time in our hotel room, but what time we did spend was enjoyable. The bed is conformable, while the pillows leave something to be desired. The jet tub and shower were delightful with an abidance of hot water. Some odd things are the lack of any natural light in the bathroom, and the location of the check in desk which was semi-difficult to find. The decor is somewhat casino-tastic but we didn't find it bothersome. The flat screen TVs in the bathroom and bedroom are nice. I enjoyed a relax in the tub while watching a movie something not afforded a mother of small kids very often. I see another reviewer spoke of road noise, this was not a problem from us and we stayed on a Friday and Saturday night.

We would definitely stay here again. Be warned though, there are no lake views at this hotel.

This is a small place that offers lodging, but its mostly lodging for the casino (Crystal Bay Casino). It is STILL a 5 star review from me, because I get free room offers from others in the Tahoe and Reno area and I'd rather pay to stay here.

Our room was large. My email confirmation said 455 square feet but it seemed much larger than what I remember my Wynn/Vegas room being, which I'm sure is/was larger. Maybe its the layout. We had a fireplace near the bed and a giant plasma tv. There's also a smaller tv near the chromotherapy tub, which would be great after a few drinks, some music, and the right company.

Our patio had a lake view. The sheets and bathrobe were of quality as everything else seemed to be. The bed was super-comfortable as was the tub and shower, and even the patio!
In our room, we had complimentary:
coffee/tea
wifi
snacks

Everything was clean. The place is old but rebuilt recently, and they did a very good job of it. Without the historic pictures in one of the hallways, you might never even know its older than 5-10 years.

We stayed in suite 6 but I'm sure all of them are as luxurious as their website claimed. It was a pleasant surprise, especially since much of Lake Tahoe can be a gamble if you haven't had it recommended by someone you know.

It's not a large, conglomerate owned hotel. It's small, and certainly has that small, proprietorship style charm to it. This place will not disappoint.

While the North Shore Casinos have seen better days, this newly remodeled spot is an example of what could be. It's small -- about 10 rooms in all -- but our room was quiet and meticulously appointed with nice linens, a huge big-screen TV (plus a small one in the bathroom) and an amazing tub. Two things that would make this room close to perfect: a door for the toilet area in the bathroom (a strange oversight) and a more reliable satellite TV system (the channels came and went during our stay). Check in at Crystal Bay Casino's Player's Club (the staff there was extremely helpful, and will walk you to your room).

My wife and I stayed here at the Border House . After trying to figure out where to check in(Casino customer service desk) , we were pleasantly overcome with a beautifully decorated and elegant room full of amenities for couples. Big flat screen television, gas fireplace, little flat screen in the tub/shower area, bath tub big enough for 2+ and a well stocked complimentary snack basket and cold water in the mini fridge also complimentary. We didnt want to leave. In fact I was going to leave the window unlocked so I could sneak back in and just have my mail forwarded to that address. Definitely recommend a stay here!!

I thought I had done my homework and this place was a "boutique" hotel. Plus, I used to work at the Crystal Bay Club as a blackjack dealer (many decades ago!!!) and was excited to check it out.

Good news: robes, towels, shampoos, hair dryer, coffee maker, TV and fireplace. But here's the bad news in four parts: 1) couldn't find the front door to check in using google maps; after driving around we found a little sign on one door said to go inside the casino and check-in 2) Then our room keys wouldn't work to let us in from the outside, necessitating another trip to the casino to have them re-keyed (we weren't the only ones this happened to as people were cued up on our return). 3) We finally get into our room and it's really hot, the thermostat said 80 degrees and it wouldn't "unlock" to change the temperature. Had to find a phone number (to the casino) where the guy who checked me in said he would send over maintenance. Which he did and we left for dinner as the maintenance man said he had to get codes to unlock it. We came back after dinner and though the temperature was now set at 70, you still couldn't adjust it and the AC kept coming on to try and cool it down. Still hot all night! 4) And who the hell are all the people going in and out of the back door by our room all night and morning? A party of people came in at 2:00 a.m. but there were individuals coming and going every 15-30 minutes. Impossible to sleep.

Lastly, this is not an inexpensive hotel. Yet there was no door from the bedroom to the bathroom (there was a curtain, so cheesy) and the sink cabinet was a facade with fake drawers. I say find another hotel either in Kings Beach or Incline Village!
