We loved our recent three night stay! Comfy beds, amazing breakfasts served on Muffy’s beautiful pottery with veggies and herbs straight from the garden, well located to Carson City and Virginia City, private wing with everything you could ever need, patio overlooking a private pond, mountain view, wild deer, barn owls, welcome basket, and more. Our hosts, Muffy and David, helped to make our stay even more enjoyable.

That’s quite a superlative statement but here’s why we feel it’s justified- The hosts, Muffy and David, were friendly, accommodating and interesting to talk to. The setting was more than grand. Spring is a beautiful time of the year in Washoe Valley - the trees were leafed out, flowers were blooming, the alfalfa was green - which all made for a relaxing, picturesque time to sit out and look across their pond at Washoe Lake. What set this B&B apart was that the accommodation is basically a self contained apartment located in a separate wing of the house - with the rustic appeal of grand woodwork underpinning the structure (which was designed by David - an architect - and built by the entire family), the plethora of books and magazines on interesting topics, and an overall warmth that’s hard to duplicate. Not to mention the scrumptious breakfasts that Muffy prepared each morning. Omo and Addie (the 2 delightful, well-behaved dogs) completed the picture - we would have loved to take them home with us! Our B&B experiences have always been positive but this was above the pale! What a great way to spend a birthday weekend - we plan on returning!

We have stayed at the Deer Run B&B on numerous occasions. This by far tops our list as the best B&B’s. The bedrooms and bathrooms are just right. The ambience of Deer Run is outstanding. The views are spectacular and the wildlife (especially deer and wild horses) is fascinating. Breakfasts are gourmet. Muffy and David Vhay are outstanding hosts…very interesting backgrounds with a plethora of compelling stories. I am a bit reluctant to submit this glowing review because I selfishly want Deer Run to be available to us for our next visit. Oh well, Muffy and David deserve the praise.

My husband and I had a relaxing and enjoyable stay at this ranch/B&B a short distance from downtown Carson City. The vistas were awe-inspiring and the innkeepers were so welcoming and helpful. David and Muffy gave us great advice on places to go, but even more than that they were delightful to spend time with. The breakfasts were fabulous and served on Muffy's beautiful pottery pieces.. The ranch itself is expansive, scenic, and wonderful. We really hope to visit this unique and comfortable ranch again soon.

Two rooms, each with bath, cozy, fine art everywhere, relaxing in cozy living room with fireplace, lots of books & magazines & photo albums. Recipes & breakfasts to die for. Host/Hostess, David & Muffy, treated us like family & have so much knowledge of the area. She's a potter too - don't miss the studio & bring some cups & dishes home! Outside the landscaping is lush & quiet - birds, frogs, ducks, etc.

We were 2 couples attending a wedding and Deer Run was our home away from home. 3 nights in beautiful surroundings with nature and serenity. Slept like a baby. The hosts are warm and the history of their place is fascinating. Amazing breakfasts. A real treasure.

Deer Run Ranch B&B is a working ranch with just two rooms for lodging. Located not far from Carson City near the southern end of Washo Lake, it is an oasis in high desert environment. With large bolder formations looming over the back of the ranch and acres of beautiful hay and alfalfa fields laid out in the lower front, the center of it all is a lush setting of lawns tree lined walk ways, fragrant flowers and a pond equipped with serenading bull frogs and a little dingy row boat at your disposal if you are so inclined to explore. First off, Muffy and David are both very artistic. David, an architect by trade, is an accomplished builder as well. The entire lodge along with furniture was built by him. One of Muffy’s notable talents is her mastering of the potter’s wheel. Everywhere you look, from bathroom sinks to kitchen accouterments’ are evidence of her trade. Secondly, the area is alive with critters. We saw mule dear grazing in the fields below, Molly cotton tails darting about and quail, that were always a step ahead of us. After checking in, we went out to dinner and enjoyed a very good dinner at the Glen Eagle restaurant that Muffy recommended. It was a good choice. The veal picatta was one of the best I ever tasted. The two rooms are adjoined to the main lodge but can be accessed from the outside via a stone path so patrons can come and go with disturbing the owners (if you wish to stay out late). Before turning in, we sat out near the pond to enjoy our evening glass of wine and listened to the bull frogs compete with each other to capture the interest of some lady frogs. If you are up early enough you will see deer up close to the house. We saw a young buck exploring along the narrow shaded path that surrounds the pond. Breakfast was very homemade and very, good. We had omelet with fresh sautéed spinach and feta cheese, ham, homemade muffins and cantaloupe that tasted farm fresh. I’m glad I decided to look for quality overnight lodging instead of the same old motel experience. It made our travels more memorable. If ever you need a refreshing alternative, we highly recommend Deer Run.

We immediately fell in the love with the Deer Run Ranch, it is truly a shangri la for nature lovers. We were surrounded by animals, beautiful flowers, a working farm and a peaceful lake. We enjoyed our stay so much we decided to spend an extra day and plan on coming back. It is very conveniently located to the adjacent Carson and Virginia City but is also a great destination for relaxation itself. Lots of places to walk a state park is also extremely close by. Most of all we enjoyed the company of our charming hosts. Very friendly and accommodating to our interests. We enjoyed the fabulous breakfasts topped with edible flowers, one of many special touches here. I highly recommend the Deer Run Ranch!
