This place is a real treat. Lisa and Krona have put their heart and soul into it and it shows in every way. The Sjop is a sort of general dealership (everything from sewing materiais to shock absorbers and tuisnywerheid of the highest quality) crossed with a nostalgic tea room and restaurant, filled with old photos, framed documents and other fascinating memorabilia. The accommodation is simple but delightful and a perfect alternative to the more commercial options in Bloemfontein. The landscape is typical Free State, here wiith the saltpans expanding to the horizons, and no one to disturb the deep silence. My little room, on the 'main street', was very cute, a good supply of hot water, with a delicious dinner served at my own little table for one. Breakfast the next morning was simple but very good. Baie dankie vir 'n heerlike oornag... Tot volgende keer!

Just 50km from Bloemfontein, Krona and Liza welcomed us. At first, Soutpan seems like a one horse town, but as you step into Truksvy Sjop, you can read various articles about Soutpan. The accommodation was comfortble and we arranges dinner in advance as breakfast is included. Arrange a Soutpan tour, and be amazed to discover how salt is mined through evaporation here. Late afternoon, follow the sun and just enjoy the sunset.

Sunday lunches cannot be made any better than this!

The place is comforting & welcoming, the people are awesome too!

Food is just exceptionally tasty, very cost effective with the whole ambience

It is set in a small village town, but the perfect mixture of homely food mixed with the ambience of salt pans makes it a superb experience!

Must try with the family!

We love going to Truksvy for Sunday lunch! Truksvy is a cute coffeeshop and local shop (with everything from groceries to cookies and jams and salt products from the local salt pans) in an old house in Soutpan. They serve delicious traditional home cooked meals on Sundays, and the service is very good. On Weekdays they also serve breakfast and coffee and tea. Worth the 40 minute drive from Bloemfontein, but you must book!

Visited this restaurant for a Sunday dinner with the family, a person has to appreciate experience like this because they will not be around for long. Truksvy is in a very small town, there is really nothing else other than the the restaurant , there accommodation and then the working Salt Pans in the area. It is really as if you are stepping back in time. The style, the contents have all been carefully planned to give a feeling of nostalgia. The dinner menu over weekends are set menu including breads with preserves, two main dishes and desserts, real home cooking.

We spent the night at Truksvy B&B on our way back home after a holiday.

Liza and Krone, the owners of this small establishment, welcomed us with smiles. We spent the night in a cottage that was previously the town's bank. lt truly felt like we had travelled back in time to a place so quiet and peaceful.

Breakfast was served in their restaurant, or "sjop" as they call it. We truly enjoyed our stay. Well worth a visit.

We had the privilege of spending one night in the Truksvy room, right on the main street of the town, Soutpan. Peak hour traffic constituted two cars passing by. With no streetlights in sight, the Milky Way built a bridge of light like we have never experienced before. We had a wonderful night’s sleep in the well-appointed room, surrounded by nothing but the sounds of silence. Breakfast was prepared and served by the delightful owners, who have a vast knowledge of the area. For breakfast, we had tripe and pap (a traditional maize meal dish), and boerewors with homemade bread, homemade preserves, and real butter. Truksvy offers a totally unique experience, that takes you back to days long gone. Don’t expect caviar on a medium-rate steak. You can have that in the city. The people, the food, the décor, and overall ambience contribute to an experience of warmth and guest care that is so unique, that one feels the need to take a piece of it home with you.
