We came to Sea Star Cliff in mid November for our anniversary, and even after seeing the pictures, we didn't quite expect the lodge to have so much room and sheer quality in our business suite.
I arranged with Dumisani, the hotel manager to make our suite to set up our suite to be romantic and he exceeded my expectations. There were rose petals on the floor, on the bed and lining up with candles on the massage bathtub, and some champagne and fruits. My wife loved it a lot.
The rooms are sea facing and we could watch whales right by the coast from our living room and from the balcony from the bedroom. It was already just outside the whale watching season but we saw lots of them everyday of our entire stay and our 3 year old loved it. We will definitely be back for the penthouse during whale season for an even better experience!
It's only 30 mins from Hermanus, and a great tranquil place to stay if visiting Hermanus or Gaansbai. It is only 6 minutes from the well known Klipgat Caves - which we visited last year and didn't know about Sea Star Cliff then! Highly recommended.

A well positioned modern property on the cliffs with stunning views across the bay and down the coast. Rooms are all provided with varying degrees of outdoor space and are well equipped, often with stand-alone baths as a feature. The property is multi-level and hence has a lot of stairs to deal with. The breakfast room is small and at peak times can get a bit crowded - there are a couple of outdoor tables which tend to go first in good weather. Food was good, nice choice from buffet and cooked options, and well presented. We booked a top floor room which was huge and had a lot of private space in which to sit outside and enjoy the views. The room was well equipped with storage space, small fridge, plus exercise bike! (that's a new one). It needed a bit of maintenance to tidy away lose wires, extension leads etc Parking was onsite for up to 5/6 vehicle though some of the spaces were a tight squeeze and maneuvering was tricky. The hotel is handy for the local caves and also a short drive to restaurants in Gansbaai.

A nice place this, but a few improvements in service will make this place awesome. We were welcomed by the cleaning staff who weren't quite sure what to do with us, the pre-ordered champagne wasn't ready, the room wasn't ready, the sliding door in the room was off the rail so we had the manager trying to fix it while we were trying to settle into the room. At breakfast, there was no place setting for us so we sat at the end of a big table set for someone else. There were a couple of light bulbs out and spelling mistakes on the breakfast menu. But, the massage service was great, the turndown service was amazing, the room was very well equipped, comfortable and classy, the bathroom amazing and the view was lovely. Thank you for an enjoyable stay.

It's a lovely guest house but in need of some updating and refreshing. The staff is amazing and the breakfasts were lovely. We had spectacular views from our room, which was well appointed if a little outdated. The star light on the roof was a quirky and fun touch. We had mentioned that it was our honeymoon and the staff really went to town making the room special for us - petals and candles and a bottle of sparkling wine on the bed. We were really touched by the gesture. However, when we checked out, we were charged for the bubbly (not a fancy bottle by any means). We felt this was very cheeky, as it was presented as a gift with a ribbon etc. I contacted the lodge privately but there was no response. It left a bad taste after a nice stay. It's a lovely spot but possibly a bit overpriced for what it is. I was also quoted different prices for the rooms when I contacted the B&B directly, as opposed to what was showing on Booking.com (booking.com was cheaper!). So do your research :-)

This is an exceptionally beautiful place with so much potential. However quality of maintenance really needs attending to. The power was out in the area, but not even a candle or torch was put out for our return in the dark after supper. Breakfast was said to be at 8:30 promptly and only appeared (slightly charred) at 9:30. The managing person is really friendly, but a more professional person would be more appropriate especially in this caliber guesthouse. A few tweeks & our stay could have really be great.

Make sure you are definitely going to stay as you'll have a hard time getting you refund. You'll loose 25% to cancel. Not a problem, I get that. I would rate it a zero to match the amount of refund I have received. The correspondence is minimal and 23 days into the cancellation and nothing. Adolf and Andrew do not care. In the twenty years I have been going to visit my parents from the USA I have never know such bad customer service. Shame on them.

Dog friendly which is a huge bonus and one of the main reason of going there. The staff very friendly and helpful. We loved the huge room as we were in the penthouse suite but other guest at breakfast told us their room had tiny bathroom and we also helped a guest with there door lock that wouldn’t lock and another guest a breakfast said their aircon didn't work. Doesn't fill you with a relaxing happy atmosphere.
In all honesty it was lucky we had this amazing penthouse suite but we killed about 200 mosquitos which was very unpleasant. The spray they gave us was not enough. Blood stains everywhere as we killed Mosquitos. Surround sound didn't work. Pool very dirty and the place generally needs to some TLC. I complained to the manager but there was nothing he could do. It was boiling hot but I wasn’t going to get into something that had black stuff on the side. Some of the lounges were broken and our umbrella on the roof top got moved with no explanation. On the second night there was a big fire in the area and therefore no electricity. We were given 1 candle which is a bit dangerous and no other concessions.
I feel like the owner of this hotel should prehaps spend some time there as it is not what the website says it could be.

Sea Star Cliff is located directly at the cliffs with a stunning view. When the whales are in the bay in front of the house, you can see them with a little luck directly from the terrace. One evening we sat at the terrace till late in the evening, drinking a glass of wine and listening the whales songs. We booked the penthouse and where fascinated from the great view we had from our terrace over the bay. The penthouse had a perfect bed and cushions, so we slept deep and relaxed. Breakfast was excellent.
