We had a lovely stay at Benguela! We enjoyed personal attention, help with booking a restaurant for the evening and we loved the ambience and wonderful decor style, the comfortable well equipped room. The outside has lovely relaxing areas with beautiful views. We can recommend this B&B with confidence to future travellers!

I traveled around SA and Benguela is top of my list for places to stay. The view from the bedroom was amazing, the hosts were extraordinary and made me feel special- breakfast in bed on Christmas morning was the icing on the cake. Christmas dinner was out of this world- food is insanely good!!! Thank you xx

Benguela turned out to be a lovely B&B, with a comfortable large room overlooking the ocean. It's high on a hill in a suburban part of town (Gansbaai and de Kelders), so very quiet and relaxing. Jonathan, who runs the place, is a fantastic host, not just charming and helpful, but an outstanding cook. He provides a whole dinner party each night (by prior arrangement) and serves a five course meal which is simply outstanding (and very very good value.
Gansbaai itself has a surprising number of excellent restaurants, and there are many more outstanding restaurants nearby in the town of Stanford.
We had a great stay (early January 2024) and will always remember it.

Janeen and John were the perfect hosts. The entire house is decorated with great attention to detail. The room and the bathroom were spacious, clean and very well equipped. We even found a bowl of fresh fruit. You could go straight from the room into the garden with a small pool. We were in Gansbaai on Christmas Eve. For a very reasonable surcharge, John conjured up a 5-course dinner with far too many great wines for the guests who wanted it. We spent a very nice evening with fantastic food, very nice other guests and stimulating conversations at the large table. The breakfast also offers a very good preview of what John will conjure up for dinner. Conclusion: We would love to come back.

Perhaps not clearly advertised as such, the property is more of a bed and breakfast type, suited for couples rather than a family, the accommodation is in a house with guests assigned to bedrooms. Excellent dinner which was the highlight and also the breakfast. Service was excellent.

What an amazing place to stay. Janeen made booking both the accommodation and various activities so seamless and she couldn’t have been more helpful.
When we arrived we were met by the owner, Jonathan, who was a great host throughout our stay. His breakfasts were delicious and we were lucky enough to also experience one of his dinners and it’s right up there with other five star meals we’ve had around the world.
The views of the ocean and whales were magical.
I can’t fault this place and would highly recommend it. And if you like animals he has the loveliest dog and two cats 💕🐾🐾🐾

A very pleasant house with a lovely host in Jonathan. Beautiful breakfast to set you up for the day and a lovely room which was spacious and a very nice bathroom, even though it takes an age for the water to heat up. The bedroom has curtains but no nets, so you have to draw the curtains for privacy which blocks out the light and the lovely views, and people do walk past. There is no tv which didn’t bother us, but for those who do it might be an issue. If there is no evening meal you have to cab/drive into town, I recommend the “Blue Goose”. There is a walkable pub but it’s fairly basic. Lots of lovely walls and the area is beautiful and safe.

Welcome: We had a lovely friendly welcome from Johnathan and his two dogs and cats.
Room: Lovely bed, air-con, nice bathroom. I loved the smell of the soaps and shower gel. Overlooks pool. Only two comments, the window could do with a sheer curtain, as other guests were walking back and forth in front of our window, so the only way to get any privacy was to close the curtains completely but when there is no power you’re dressing in total darkness. The bathroom door handle was broken so we couldn’t close the door and Wifi was a bit hit and miss.
The art is great and the overall space is lovely. Jonathan is just wonderful and we enjoyed chatting to him, but he is also good at giving you space to relax.
Food: Yes the breakfast was exceptional. The best we have had on this holiday and maybe the best ever?
Additional: Jonathan is lovely and really made us feel relaxed and at home. We really enjoyed our stay and it was a wonderful end of our big trip.

What a wonderful and interesting guesthouse. We were welcomed with open arms and enjoyed every minute of our stay. The food was exceptional. Jonathan really went out of his way to make our stay memorable - nothing was ever too much trouble or couldn't be done or arranged. We will definitely recommend Benguela as must visit to all our friends and family.
