Acquired in 1937, Carl Werner List originally farmed the 12 000 hectare estate and eventually developed this private and intimate world into a household name in Namibia. Midgard offers 90 fully equipped rooms, The Barn restaurant, two swimming pools, a gym and spa as well as Namibia’s one and only private skittle alley (Sven’s Kegelbahn). The lodge is spaciously situated in a sprawling country garden, bordering the banks of the Swakop River, as it meanders through the lodge on its way to the Atlantic Ocean. At Midgard we invite you to relax and have fun; feel free to soak up the ambiance and simply unwind; or explore the outdoors on our hiking and mountain trails, play bowling, volleyball, tennis, table tennis, pool or outdoor chess or view our vintage car collection. One of the estate’s major attractions is a Hilltop Sundowner Drive, where you can enjoy a stunning 360° view over the Otjihavera Mountains with a refreshing sundowner in hand. We also offer morning or afternoon Game Drives through the separate 2 000 hectare nature reserve, along the Swakop River. Our game park is home to giraffes, blue and black wildebeests, oryx, kudus, hartebeests, eland, smaller antelope species, warthogs and baboons. If luck is on your side, even brown hyena and leopards can be spotted.

I have been visiting Midagard for more then a decade and this was the first time I was dissapointed. A lot of construction works ongoing (even on Sunday) with a lot of noise and dust. The staff is very friendly, but, there was no available internet. I requested a steak that should have come with vegetables - no vegetables available, No hot water in the bedroom and no water in the shower.

We spent 2 nights at Midgard after travel restrictions were lifted due to COVID-19. From the moment we arrived the staff were helpful and very focused on social distancing protocols and sanitation. We traveled with our 1 1/2 year old son and we found our stay extremely comfortable and restful (which doesn't happen easily with a busy little boy) The estate has so much to explore and we found a few secluded spots where we could play freely without disturbing other guests. We also enjoyed all our meals with the veggies from the Midgard garden being the highlight. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend Midgard to others just as it was recommended to us. Thank you to Jaco and his team for making our stay relaxing and memorable for all the right reasons.

Dear AnnaBotswana, We are delighted to know that you had such a relaxing and memorable stay at our beautiful lodge! Your safety is of utmost importance to us, and we go to great lengths to ensure that you and your family have peace of mind whilst staying with us. Our vegetable garden has become our proud and joy, and is testament to our garden-to-plate experience - our chutneys and preserves are delicious as well! We are looking forward to host you and your family soon again! Stay healthy and safe! Warm Regards Jaco Welgemoed General Manager

I was disappointed that Midgard did not inform me (directly or on the website) that I would have to drive more than 60km on a gravel road to reach the place. I would have hired a 4x4 vehicle had I known. The pictures on the website create a superior expectation of the Estate and upon arriving, I was bitterly disappointed. Starting with the less than appealing parking area that is run down. The wifi needs to be improved as it kept on cutting. The service from the staff was great except for one gentleman (who's name I unfortunately did not get) who chauffeured us on the go-cart on arrival and assisted us with the horse riding booking. He was absolutely unpleasant and unwelcoming in his demeanour and communication throughout our stay. More food options for vegetarians, vegans and gluten-free guests need to be incorporated into the lunch and dinner menu's.

Nonetheless, the bar staff, dining staff and chef's were lovely people.

I will, unfortunately, not be returning to this facility. I do not think it is value for money.

Dear Escape, Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback about your stay with us. Your comments are valued and will be used to further improve our hosting skills. We are delighted to know that you found the service (with exception of one team member) from the team to be great, and them to be lovely people. I am happy to inform you that we will be starting an extensive refurbishment program with additional rooms, new conference center, spa and extensive vegetable garden and greenhouse, within the next month. The parking area also will be part of the refurbishment. Great focus is on our garden-to-plate philosophy, and special dietary requirements like gluten-free requests can be discussed with the chef. We are looking forward to pleasantly surprise you if you decide to visit us again. Warm Regards Jaco Welgemoed

We have been to Midgard in the past as day visitors and overnight guests. What is happening there now is close to being a disaster. N$ 50 entrance fee. For what exactly, as we were told that e. g. the pool may not be used. But we got massive construction noise on a Sunday for that. How relaxing. The still mentioned vintage car museum etc is non existent anymore (maybe due to construction). As the staff is non existent anymore. When we found somebody to order coffee, it took 30 minutes to get them to us. Used cups etc were not taken away, so we had to clean the table ourselves when we arrived. The staff that was available was not interested at all. And please demolish all those buildings not need. Lapas etc. everywhere, but hardly maintained and dirty. Nope, a no go at this point in time and far from being anywhere close to even 3 stars. Sad, as it used to be a great spot.

Dear Ernst38, Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback about your day visit to Midgard. Your comments are valued and will be used to further improve our hosting skills. It is with great disappointment and sadness to have learnt that your visit with us was less than perfect, especially amongst so many very positive comments. Your observations about inattentive service, and the availability of the pool, and construction noise is noted. We are very excited about the current refurbishment of the property, with the addition of more rooms, a state of the art conference venue, new restaurant, spa and extensive vegetable garden. These wonderful new additions and a team of great hosts will be awaiting you on your next visit to our beautiful property. We are looking forward to welcome you back. Warm Regards Jaco Welgemoed General Manager

This place is run down and falling apart. The restaurant is a complete rip off. They only offer a horrible buffet dinner and no prices are advertised so guest have no idea on how much they are paying for their food. Avoid this place. There are better options

Visited the lodge for a weekend with the family. Unfortunately, only to find out the lodge is undergoing a revamp. For lunch and dinner only buffet offered, after being told al la carte is available. Buffet was sub standard at N$250pp... Additionally they were advertising a special, but when we were checking out, were told we didn't qualify because we did not book it as such. Hopefully with the new upgrade the quality and service will improve, but for now not worth going.

The place is so lovely. There are so many fun activities to do there. It’s very nice and peaceful. The food is really really good and the stuff are very friendly. The only thing is the bad road to get there, it’s gravel road. I had an accident on that road but the fortunate part is the assistant manager of Midgard really helped us out and was so kind to us and towed our car till we could get some expert help. That really made life so much easy. Thanks for a wonderful experience overall and for such great kindness. It’s very rare to find. 🙏🏽

Dear gracegama, It was such a pleasure to host you, and also to be able to assist you when you had roadside trouble. We are so happy to know that you enjoyed the food, service, activities and tranquility at the lodge. I am happy to inform you that the gravel road is in the process of being upgraded to a tar road to ensure a safe journey. We are looking forward to welcome you back! Everything about the newly renovated Midgard is amazing. The rooms are beautiful, beds comfortable etc. The treatments at the spa were wonderful! The restaurant decor is beautiful, and the dinner was great. The variety at breakfast was huge and we really enjoyed our stay. The staff was very helpful throughout our stay.
Thank you for offering Namibian rates to make it possible for locals to also enjoy this gem.

My family and I had an early restcation and chose to stay at Midgard Country Estate. Even though they were busy with renovation, best decision. The staff were so friendly, the food was delicious and the rooms were clean and beautifully prepared. We had the best time, with so many activities to choose from. We will definitely be back once the renovations are done. They even considered my daughter's food allergy during preparation of meals.
