Hollywood casino is a great place to go on the coast! Friendly staff and management & service is always fast and easy ! & beverages and food are great!! Hollywood is the BEST casino on the gulf coast!
Hollywood could do better on rewards for player members ! Th y have the least in regards when it comes to the card ! The points the games played by customers at the kiosk an so forth !! Sometimes it’s very boring to go !!
Very clean and large rooms. Beautiful view of the bay. We loved it. Enjoyed the buffet but couldn’t try the lazy River, pool, or the golf course due to weather. We would stay here again. Staff very helpful and very nice.. Good place for any one to enjoy.
“Meh!” That’s how I’d sum up my family’s experience at Hollywood Casino in Bay St. Louis, MS. We stayed here from Sunday to Thursday (although original departure was to be Friday) in June and all in all the place is simply okay but not one we’d clamor back to in the future. In all fairness, we were dealing with some crappy weather which we in no way attribute to the accommodations. Additionally, we were drawn to this property due to comps earned at another networked establishment (L’Auberge du Lac, Lake Charles, LA.) However, this particular establishment is a distant cousin to L’Auberge – very distant; like twice removed! But let’s get down to specifics. GENERAL IMPRESSIONS When we arrived, the property overall looked very promising (notwithstanding the odd sojourn through residential areas and the inexplicable striped yellow line on the divided thoroughfare entrance.) Pulling into the valet parking lane, we waited for some time for an attendant – in what can only be described as a sauna-type environment given the weather conditions! When we finally saw an attendant or two running around, their activity foretold a general chaos and confusion that would define most other staff during our stay! As we walked into reception, everything appeared very promising and we checked in without difficulty and made our way to our room with our luggage trolley in tow. Room was in good order and appeared clean and fresh. While I realize this is aspiring to be a more conventional resort hotel experience, the lack of a fridge or microwave would prove a persistent shortcoming during our stay. AMENITIES Among the advertised amenities are four dining establishments, golf course and a pool and lazy river. We also found one small souvenirs/sundries shop which was almost never open. The random operating hours were evidenced in other areas as well, such as returning one night around 9:30 to find the valet service closed for no particular reason! But more about staff later. Didn’t try the golf course but the pool area was nice if not rather modest. Overall well kept and supplied with towels, etc. Cabana bar was adequate and staff there was helpful. Given the abundance of rentable cabanas we opted to get one and found it just okay. The weather meant the pool was not crowded so we ironically felt cramped in our cabana with an otherwise empty pool area. The cabanas come with a television, table, chairs and chaise lounges and a cooler with water bottles. If the place was busier I could see the benefit but for us it was just poor timing plus the weather cut short our day by the pool. (Again, no fault of the hotel.) DINING Although there are four dining establishments, it seems like so much less. We generally stay away from the two extremes of casino resort dining – buffets and steakhouses. That’s why we like L’Auberge so much - or even Coushatta in Kinder, LA – both of which offer modest quick casual dining options. The Celebrity Grill is Hollywood’s version of this and it is really no comparison: very small, limited menu and EXRUCIATINGLY SLOW!!!!!!!! No exaggeration to say ordering at the counter could take upwards of 15 minutes. Once you get your food – delivered in no particular order of relevance to when you ordered it – it’s again, simply “Meh!” Cooked properly, modestly seasoned, generally edible but no chance of an “Oh, that’s delicious!” expression. And this is really your only onsite dining choice…for a four-night stay?! One option would be going offsite, but the struggling community of Bay St. Louis does not seem ready to meet that challenge. Alas, dining became a recurring issue. And now…SERVICE Let me say right up front that everybody we encountered was very friendly, pleasant and as accommodating as they were able to be. That being said, the service standard set here is extremely low (ya know, for a service business!!) Ironically, nobody we encountered seemed all that interested in receiving a tip; maybe they’ve all just given up. Service at Celebrity Grill was ridiculously slow! Valet service was simply a disaster! At one point, while trying to exit the valet driveway, we were behind an occupied vehicle that the attendant was having an extendehd personal conversation with and when we asked for them to allow us to exit, he waved us around as if we were annoying him!! Really?!?!? As far as housekeeping goes, our rooms were never serviced during our stay. (Well, that’s not entirely true – my wife did remove our dirty towels and replace them with some fresh ones she retrieved from an open service area!) Overall, the mantra for housekeeping throughout the property seems to be “when it absolutely has to be just nearly halfway good enough.” Whether its COVID related or simply short staffing, we never received a straight answer. Astronomy buffs will enjoy cocktail service on the gaming floor since spotting a waitress is like discovering a comet! As any traveler knows, a modest establishment with attentive service will typically win over a reluctant visitor. But the other way around and you have a whole host of “one-and-dones!” Finally the CASINO Overall the casino is fairly small and features around 20 table games with no more than 7 or 8 in operation at the busiest of times. Minimums were higher than I would expect in a place of this caliber. Dealers were mostly cordial and helpful although did encounter one blackjack dealer who claimed that we could not break chips or color up until she shuffled but this was not the case with other dealers who did this without comment! As far as slots, I’d say again “Meh!” Nothing overly impressive about the casino and this, in my opinion underscores the shortcoming of this establishment in general: in a region with so many other options, why would you visit (or seek employment) at Hollywood Casino Bay St. Louis?! A short 15 minute drive puts you at Island View Casino in Gulfport, MS and it’s really hard to compare the two establishments. Kind of like comparing a fine wine selected by a sommelier to something you’d buy at the corner store with a screw cap!! In summary, will definitely go to L’Auberge next time!…
Number 1 Casino on The MS Gulf Coast. Very Clean & Friendly Staff. We had a wonderful time at the Casino. The Food was excellent best food on the coast in My Opinion. I would highly recommend stopping by Hollywood Casino to Everyone.
