A beautiful 10 day stay at Palm Grove Lodge. Accommodation simple but loved the rustic flow. Numerous splendidly delicious meals were had in the energetic and popular restaurant. Fun evenings were spent in the always busy bar with good local bands playing on occasions. Staff were friendly and helpful although worked off their feet! Amazing days spent on the beach in front of the resort with beautiful warm sea and good body boarding waves. Numerous water activities were available through the lodge at a good price. We definitely going back this year. New Year's Eve was a blast! Thank you Palm Grove Lodge.

The accommodation is good, except that it is extremely hot and the fan in the room does not make much of a difference, except for noise that disturbs you.
It is lovely and close to the beach and has a beautiful pool that overlooks the Indian Ocean and is so tranquil except then vendors disturb you, even when in the pool.
This could be such a nice resort but the manager and her daughter are rude and obnoxious people that make you not want to go back there.
The restaurant food is average but the price is not worth the food you receive.
Overall is Inhambane a beautifull place that you need to visit.

This lodge is located on an amazing stretch of beach and has a lot of potential. Unfortunately that is were it stops. To say this is a three star accommodation is being very generous. The unit differ in size and from what I have seen quality. They need major revamping as the one we were in was on it's last legs.

The restaurant was ok. Service was poor/slow but that is just part of Mozambique in general. The pool was extremely filthy and could not be used close to the end of our trip. To the end we tended to go to other lodges to use their pool and restaurant as it was just of a better quality and experience.

The management in general of this lodge is very poor. More needs to be done to accommodate everyone as music was playing loudly till the sun came up as there was no general control in the lodge.

The owners that were there were very friendly and helpful when asking for any assistance. Our experience with the manager not so great. Extremely rude and unhelpful.

I really hope they can upgrade the units more and get some better day to day management of the lodge as I will say again it has a lot of potential.

WE loved MOZ and had a great holiday none the less. Would I ever go back to this lodge? No. Much nicer places currently around in the same area.

This place is spoiling what Mozambique is all about! Its on a very good location, in the middle of Barra, but its not run/managed the right way!

The booking process went well and Retha was very accommodating, but thats where all the positives stopped.

We were shocked with the condition of the house we stayed in. Its very outdated, the showers dont work, its dirty!

The restaurant is filled with arrogant immature crowd of people! They sell alcohol to underaged kids. They play VERY loud music till late at night!

The management was rude!

There is no authentic Mozambique feel at this place! We ended up spending most of our time at a lodge thats a bit further up on the beach that was 100 times better than this place.

If they change there game, revamp the place a bit and manage it well with a true Mozambique feel, it will be a great place!

I agree with the location..its great..but that's all. Why travel all the way to the remote Indian Ocean to end up where loud western music is played on two TV screens in the bar and the staff have an attitude to customers that is worse to none. I had the temerity to ask for the music to be turned down ...it was but reluctantly. I also had cause to complain about the seafood platter their 'signature dish'. If you have it look carefully to see if its got all it promises ..mine didn't and then when I complained about quality the female in charge (the owner's wife?) was quite short saying there was nothing wrong with it and blamed everyone else except herself as the manager/owner. It also gives the impression of a male macho culture and attitude to women and locals that pre-dates Nelson Mandela!

My partner & I have now holidayed at Palm Grove Lodge on three consecutive occasions over the last two years and can only say that every time we book a stay there it only gets better!

The Lodge is easily accessible and impressive upon arrival, and all chalets are a mere metres from the beautiful Barra beach.

The Restaurant and Bar is situated in the perfect spot overlooking the beach and can only be described as ethnically Mozambican with good & friendly service. Not to forget the impressive swimming pool next to the restaurant with enough deck chairs available for those who would rather enjoy relaxing with a book next to the pool over that of being sand blasted on the beach. This is also beneficial as you are not continuously pestered to purchase craft from peddlers on the beach.

The newly erected stalls within the Lodge grounds allows you the opportunity to view local crafts in relative peace.

The highlight of the accommodation would have to be the comfortable beds and good linen that is provided in the chalets. Mosquito Netting is provided around the beds which is of course essential. The individual braai facilities per chalet are in good condition and a great way to spend your evening if you are not dining out. The self catering facilities provided are good and the basic utensils are provided to ease your stay.

Ensure to bring your own bath towels for your holiday.

Our most recent stay at Palm Grove over the last week was decidedly the best so far as we managed to arrive there in time to watch the RSA vs NZ RWC Game in the Restaurant with a few other die hard SA guests of the Lodge. Our upgrade to a unit with a upper bedroom view overlooking the ocean (aka "The Honeymoon Suite") was also a definite plus for us. We had a problem with our hot water, which once notified at reception was fixed almost immediately and we had no problems after that.

To anyone looking for a family friendly location close to the beach with self catering facilities, Palm Grove is a good place to book!

Thank you to the Palm Grove Lodge Team. We will most surely be back for another visit soon!

Warmest regards,

Anneke & Wentzel

This place was rather dissapointing. The good thing is that it is near an absolutely beautiful beach - the restaurant is actually at the beach, while accomodations do not have beach view.

The whole property does not look well maintained. The outoor areas have some garbage lying around and looks untidy. The buildings also seem to need some maintainance

There are various sorts of accomodation from big chalets to simple rooms. Maybe the bigger ones are in better shape but our room in the self catering were dark and not clean. Same goes for self catering kitchen. Water supply was temperamental, probles with door locks at neigboring room, and we killed a coackroach in the bathroom corner. No cleaning of the room, taking our garbage etcetera during our stay.

Indeed there are palms at Palm grove, and nothing is done to protect you against have one hitting your head. Even at the communal sitting area you can risk this - one fell down right beside the table.

Boys selling bracelets are a nuicance at the beach and the restaurant, not able to a accept a "no thanks" They might also approach you at the accomodation, but the guard will tell them to go away if they see them

Except from the guards,we seldom saw some staff around,

The 2 bed 2 bath Casa is close to the beach and good for self catering. Our Bedroom had a sea view. We ate at the restaurant. Drinks ate food are fairly priced.
It was out of season (End July - 1ste week August) and the menu options are limited but still good. Prices are fair You can book directly with the Lodge- B&B included. They arrange transfers for us from the Airport at an additional fair cost.

Taking friends to Mozambique for the fist time can be exciting! We stayed at Retha and Lukas beach house which was very comfortable and well planned with single rooms and bathroom all onto a Stoep. The restaurant and bar is well positioned on the BARRA beachfront! The pool welcomes you after a long walk which goes on forever!
