Excellent service, staff was super friendly and very helpful. I loved the food. Fridges in every room is a must left my food out for a few minutes and when I got back to it was infested with tiny ant like bugs. Otherwise everything was great I would recommend it any day 😊

We had an amazing stay...enjoyed all the facilities. Sonette is so helpful, friendly staff. Gorgeous beaches. most certainly worth a revisit. thank you for such a special break. As a suggestion do bed & breakfast, there are little places all long the beach for the rest of your meals. Neptunes is great and so is the thirsty parrot.

We spend 5 days over New Year and we really enjoyed it very much. We had a Superior room which was very nice with a large comfortable bed, a Fridge a bathroom with a rain shower and a nice terrasse. Wifi is available at the Bar and at the Restaurant only! The service was very friendly and the Managers have been always around. As the Hotel only has 12 rooms it is very quiet with a very personal service. On the side of the hotel is the beach bar where cocktails are served during the day. The beach is very very beautiful, almost empty and the sea has 27°, due to the high tempratures the perfect beach times are early in the morning or from 16:00h in the afternoon. We went twice for diving in the morning, the diving school is just 500m away from Barra Beach Club, as we only have the Open Water maximum dives are down to 12 Meters - but we have seen Zebra Sharks, Turtles and a lot of other fishes - really beautiful. The rest of the day we spend at the Pool - which is situated at the wonderful garden of the hotel. The Beach Bar has a Pool as well and even if there is written that only hotel guests can use it - a lot of visitors just jump inside and it is quite noisy - at the Hotel pool we have been most of the time only the four of us. The Food offered at the Hotel is good quality. Breakfast you can choose from a Menu Card and will be served to the table. Again it would be nice to serve some more brands of tea then Earl Grey.
Barra Beach Club is a beautiful hideaway place and if we have the chance we will come back for sure

Recently spent a week at Barra Beach and although the premises and location is idyllic it needs a much more hands on approach in terms of service and the restaurant lacks the Mozambique seafood as depicted on their website. For a 4star establishment I had to continually ask for additional coffee, sugar and long life milk in our room as we do not use Cremora. This became rather irritating and unprofessional. Our room floors were also mopped down after breakfast in the morning and left very wet. it would take hours before we could enter the room and not slip on the tiles. The restaurant Menu left a lot to be desired. We had a few meals there and they were all rather disappointing. The breakfast is good though and enjoyable. The bed is extremely comfortable and the best pillows ever. Overall I feel it lacks the personal touch and having the reception at the bar made it a bit weird for a Boutique Hotel. Parking also not wonderful under a coconut tree with the possibility of them falling and damaging vehicles. I also asked Management to wash my vehicle down before we departed back home and that was totally ignored so I did it myself. Beaches are beautiful but very littered which is sacrilege in such a pristine environment. Americano and Rauli are standout amongst the remaining disinterested staff.

Response from BarraBeachClub, General Manager at Barra Beach Club
Responded 06 Jan 2020
Good day! I'm so sorry (and frankly surprised) that you did not have a good stay with us. I (Sonette) chatted to you every day re activities / events in the area while also trying my best to arrange a fishing charter. You did not once mention the issues in your room. You did mention that the seafood pasta was not as nice as previous seafood pasta with us and I did make sure the charge was taken of your bill. Our parking area is quite small and we are looking at another solution. We pump water from 6km away. We can only wash cars in the morning after 6 when we are sure that the boreholes are full and we do have spare water. A massive beach clean up was done yesterday. We collected over 15 large refuse bags. This is a continuous process as the next high tide just dumps more rubbish. Please know that we definitely are passionate about our beaches. I am pleased that you did enjoy our comfortable bed & pillows. I will also pass on to Americo & Raul your compliments. I'm so happy that you did enjoy our breakfasts. Have a wonderful 2020!

We moved over here from it's sister hotel "Casa do Capitao", and we are really glad we did!

Officially it seems it's classed as specialty lodging, so I'd actually missed this when looking for hotels in Inhambane. In reality though it's pretty self-contained, I think the only thing it's missing is 24hour reception - which we don't care about anyway!

I think we arrived late in the season which meant the place was fairly quiet, there was one other couple there who left a day or so after we arrived, so for the most part we had the place to ourselves!

As we had swapped over from the town we took one of the Beach cottages, I called them bungalows which they found hilarious? does it mean something else in Mozambican?!!
Anyway, the room was lovely, big bed with huge mosquito net (no holes in ours!), big bathroom area, and a nice little private garden.
Only downside is that as we lay in bed we could see people up on the sand dunes (and they could see us!!).

We did have a couple of issues with the room - the water stopped (twice), the air con leaked on my head during the night (though it was nice and cooling!), and all of the electricity tripped.
All issues were dealt with quickly and efficiently, so top marks with that response.
Power to the whole site is clearly a bit touch and go, every single evening if you're trying to use wifi or watching TV, then the power will go off at the most critical point - and the TV needs a good 15 minutes to retune itself after a power drop.

When we first arrived at the club, we were a little 'put off' with the pool water quality - it was visibly murky, so much so that we refused to go in it.
A couple of days with the filters running and some chlorine blocks soon cleared that up and it was crystal clear, very inviting and looked superb - Note to management, don't leave it until it gets murky! keep it clean all the time ;)

There are only 5 loungers around the main pool (when we were there), not a problem for us as we were largely on our own, but if the place is full I can easily see an early morning 'towel' war to reserve the sunbeds!
The gardens are modest and well maintained, all very pleasing to the eye.

In terms of food, breakfasts were fantastic - though it was really obvious when there was a change of chef, as on a couple of days the presentation dropped and half the ingredients vanished :D Not a problem, but it did make us smile!
We had dinner on a couple of nights, and whilst there was a bit of a wait, the food quality was superb, the fish dishes are really fresh and tasted amazing.
The ONLY drawback to the evening meals (which in fact stopped us from eating more), was the presence of mosquito's... there are loads of them making it really uncomfortable to sit out (or in), and we often found ourselves locked back in our room by early evening - a real shame.

We ate lunch (quite a lot) at the "Agua de coco" beach bar next door, it's owned by Barra beach club and headed up by Simon, who was such a wonderful guy. Very friendly, very attentive and made a real effort to look after us.... he's an asset to the place - don't lose him!.

We actually found all the staff very friendly, which was a contrast to what we felt in the sister hotel, so we were really happy with that.

In terms of activities, there really aren't any... you will be pointed to Barra Lodge, which is only 5-10 mins walk back down the road (or beach), where they have a number of excursions from whaleshark-watching to quad bikes, to dhow trips and horse riding... .plus they have a cash point there which was very useful! It's a big lodge though (very big), so we were more than happy to do our activities and head back to our exclusive little beach club.

The Beach itself is lovely, a lot of vines at the top of the beach, but then a good expanse of empty clean sand before the rather choppy surf. You will have the usual hassle of beach-buys selling you shells/necklaces/t-shirts etc, but a firm no (sometimes very firm) will usually get rid of them.

I mentioned up there about the mosquito's at night, which largely I could keep at bay with deet repellent, however during the day (at about 4pm), they have these things called palm flies (also called white ash) - basically biting midges.
The first you know about them is when they bite and you can see them doing it, repellent does not work on them and they cause small 2mm red bites which will last for a couple of days, but it's the quantity, there are just so many it's very uncomfortable... I think I would go as far and say these little flies really put a blot on our holiday. I have no idea how to avoid them, but I hope someone develops something soon, as they would stop us from returning to the Mozambique coast.

Overall we were very happy with this place and a thoroughly amazing and relaxing place to end our holiday!

Spent a week here following a week in Kruger (whole trip organised by Siyabona). This was our 'relax' week and relaxed is what we got.

Good pick up from the airport and straight from our room. Everything was perfect from start to finish. Room was lovely and food was great (barracuda!). The resort itself is a little hidden gem with a beautiful pool and gardens and main building.

Sonette and Joe were perfect hosts, not intrusive and seemed to know how much to speak to you or what you needed.

Couldn't do the Ocean safari because of choppy seas but did do a little snorkelling and canoeing. The beach is beautiful and hardly a soul on it. Long walks and beautiful sunsets.

We recently spent 7 nights at Barra Beach Club, accommodation, food, service and staff all excellent. Walk through the garden and on to the beach by their own beach bar, also good food and service. A few hawkers on the beach but not too pushy unless its Johnny Cash....beware he's sharp for a ten year old. Nice beach, lovely warm water and a few other resataurants within walking distance. Excursions can be booked at the Lodge next door, can recommend quad biking but wear takkies and the Pansey Island cruise.....awesome trip.

The beach is crystal blue. When you wake up in the morning you feel the morning breeze because the chalets are right next to the beach.

The beauty of this place is heavenly.

The food at the restaurant is amazing, even though alcohol was ridiculously expensive. If you plan to drink alcohol I would advise that you bring your own alcohol instead.

The chalets were clean and were cleaned daily. And the shower had hot water every morning.

I will definitely go back again.

Made reservation via internet - - was quoted a different rate than the rate given to us upon arrival at hotel. Staff at reception not helpful or interested in guests. Booked a sea facing room with a bath. At arrival , told that the only suite with a bath is the presidential. The room had no sea view only a patio with high wooden fence in front. Again, when we asked the porter about the sea view, we were told to climb into the next room's garden and up a sand hill.... then we'll see the sea. Food was good, waiter friendly, but unfortunately the attitude of reception staff and the room did not make up for it. No bathmat in bathroom, water from shower spilled over into the toilet area.

Superb location on the beach with a short stroll down to lovely warm sea water. Our room was inside the lodge and very comfortable, King size bed and spotless. Air conditioning and mosquito netting, although we did not see any mosquitos!
Staff were friendly and Sonette the manageress extremely helpful.
Seafood was plentiful and excellent and the breakfasts very good.
Great swimming pool on the property and a second pool at their bar next door where cocktails and light lunches are served daily
Many activities to hire, quad biking, catamaran sailing with a guide and sailor and dive boats offfering ocean safaris from Tofu. The boats take tours of the ocean to find whale sharks etc. My partner and others swam with a Giant Manta ray in the ocean, a wonderful experience.

This was my first visit to this country and I loved every minute of it

Room Tip: In season it would probably be best to have an outside room in the garden where it would be quieter.

The plan is to arrive at Inamembe airport on the 17th, 4 of us. Do you do airport transfers? Do you have availability? We have not booked the flights, we wanted to confirm accommodation first? I have emailed Barra lodge direct, presume this is not you? Many thanks Lesley
