We visited Farol for 10 days to escape the Cape Town winter in the June holidays. Five families rented separate units. It was the perfect setup. Long beach walks and snorkeling (just to the right) are musts. Farol is protected from the winds which affect other areas of Barra. An unexpected delight was to have Armando and his wife Maria unobtrusively servicing our unit and keeping the gas barbecue / braai grid spotless. If we’d known sooner that Armando could also fillet fish for us we would have bought more fish. The restaurant was pricey but good. Staff are warm and good people. The traders visit daily, but are kept at arms length by the ever present security guard. The traders can supply you with your daily rolls, fruit, vegetables, sea food and any gifts you’d like to buy. We bought our daily food from them and did a bulk stock from Mr Fresh and Yum Yum close by. A must is a Pansy Island Tour with George Armani. He charged 4000 Mets per boat. Bring your own food, drinks and snorkel equipment. 100’s of pansy shells to admire. The beaches are safe and we felt it was very safe for our young kids to run free on the beach and explore like we used to in the old days. The locals in the area are friendly and kind. Thank you to Leigh and the team for a great stay.

Four of us spent 10 days in Farol da Barra on Praia da Barra beach in house 18 to celebrate two of us having our 65th birthdays. Eish what a celebration and incredible way to start the next chapter in our lives! The sea is warm and safe, saw whales and dolphins, local fisherman bring their daily catches of crayfish, prawns, squid etc for sale yummy, incredible sunrises and sunsets with wonderful walks and close to the Chill Bar/Restaurant and several other pubs/restaurants along the beach, Tofu and a short drive way from Inhambane. What more could you want.

Stayed in House 18, Farol da Barra for ten days. The house is situated right on the beach and beautifully furnished, fully serviced and with all the comforts of home. Three bedrooms, each with their own bathroom. Restaurant and bar a stone's throw away if you don't feel like cooking and all other activities easy to arrange. Best place ever for nighttime star gazing!

Farol da Barra Mozambique is not a place you want to go if you want to relax. The cars and 4 wheel bikes are up and down infront of your holiday home all day. The guys selling stuff on the beach hound you from early morning and dont stop the whole day. It is exhausting!

This is not a place for a holiday! Its a zoo…people driving on the beach…music going all night long…people knocking on your gate all day long trying to sell you stuff, harrassing you on the beach! Lousy hot rooms with thousands of mosquitos! We booked for 10 days and stayed 5.

Lovely wooden chalets decorated beautifully to match the sea environment, beach right at my door step, loved my sea facing room. I enjoyed the food very tasty and reasonably priced, friendly staff went all out to assist when needed. Chalets have a beautiful wooden deck I used to sit there starring endlessly at the sea nights were very quiet and beautiful. Chalets are clean and well maintained.

4 of us stayed at Farol da Barra for the Easter weekend. Each self catering log cabin is uniquely decorated. Views are fantastic as you are right on the beach. You are visited daily in the morning with "vendors" selling prawns and crayfish.

If you not in the mood to cook be sure to visit the restaurant Chill at Foral. The chicken with 2M sauce is amazing. For a real treat ask the Chef to make you a prawn and chicken combo - 5 star!

What a lovely place to stay , its self catering and they have 2 staff members that clean up after you , all chalets are clean and well stocked , 24 hour security helps with the hawkers, as they get stopped and don't disturb you

Hello The road from Komatipoort to Bara is fine but to get to the lodge you will need a 4x4 car as the road is not suitable for a small car. I’m sure if you call the owner her name is Lynne she would gladly assist you and advice where to park your car and organize someone to fetch you. I hope this helps
