Detailed Reviews
You pull up into a ghost town, it’s almost sad really. The vibrant past of this location has definitely gone away. Dominos pizza is your only choice of food after 9pm and the bars near are barely open. The cost for this hotel is ridiculous, but they charge this because they can. It’s sad. This is a $139 a night on the weekends and $89 during the week. Seriously, if you have to stay here, it’s comfortable and clean with a great staff. Simply put, this place is someone’s write off at the end of the year.

In my experience, Quality Inns tend to be a bit inconsistent. This hotel may be the best one I've stayed at. Rooms are spacious, comfortable and have unique but functional and tasteful decor. The only reason I didn't give an excellent rating is both our A/C unit and fridge were not working properly, which we only realized around bedtime. Since we stayed 2 nights, I can attest to the attentiveness and effectiveness of the maintenance staff who came in the next day and swapped out both units for ones that worked just fine. Usually when this happens we just get offered another room, which we didn't want since we were settled in. This was much better! The pool is large and they also have a sauna. Highly recommend this property if you're visiting the Iron Range.

Rooms were large and very clean. We were in a king sized suite. We asked for ground floor, and were placed on the third floor, but room was close to the elevator. We had NO hot water even after running for a long time. There was a wonderful pizza restaurant across the street. The front desk staff were not friendly-really edged on rude. Parking was minimal in front of the hotel. Parking lot was out of sight of our room.

+1
Rude front counter staff. Asked for a crispy dollar to pay for a 3 dollar water so I wouldn’t have to drink their sulfur tasting water. Front counter guy was rude that my dollar was dirty. Wanted to know my room number if I was staying there ect treated me as if I was a bum off the street. Well the room was more dirty than the dollar bud. No breakfast you could get a breakfast bag by request. Toilet leaked shower was cold but not as cold as the room. My kids wore their coats most of the evening and the whole building smells of Chlorine from the pool. Maybe if they weren’t so worried about people exchanging cash for the overpriced vending machine they would have more time to clean the room.

My husband and I spent Labor Day weekend at the Quality Inn in downtown Virginia. The hotel and service was great. They took great care in maintaining the heritage of the original Hotel Coates with the lobby and room decor. There’s a large and well-maintained indoor pool and our room was spotless. The breakfast space was large and comfortable and had a lot of options. The front desk clerks and maintenance folks were available at all times and someone was always cleaning - indoors and out. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

The stay was exceptional, however, a couple hours after i checked out, i realized i left my wallet behind in the room. I called and the front desk attendant and a housekeeper went to look for it and they found it wedged between the mattress and the headboard. That doesn't make sense. The last place i had it was on the foot of the bed next to my bag. By this time, the room had already been cleaned. How did the housekeeper not see it when they were changing the bedding??? When I got it back, i was missing a 50 dollar bill. I went back to tell the front desk attendant and he said he would tell the manager and have him call me but i haven't heard back. Today I tried calling and left a message but again have not gotten a call back. I had two 50 dollar bills in there before going there and did not spend any cash the whole weekend, and it was almost like my wallet was hidden. There's no way for it to get between the mattress and headboard by itself. The stay itself was ok, but money mysteriously vanished when my wallet was in the hands of one of the employees

I would have rated at a 1, but the gentleman at the desk was very helpful and courteous.
The bed was ok.
I did not get the room that I reserved!
Very poor WiFi
WiFi is 1.09 mbps down & .78 up
All of the hard floors were sticky like a soda had been spilled and not cleaned up.
The shower head was high enough if you aren’t over 5’ 6” tall.
It has a tile tub/shower surround and there is mold/algae in the grout.
The toilet was short. About as tall as the toilet in the preschool area at my church. If you’re a man, you know how nasty it is when you’re genitals hang in the water.
We stayed in a 2 room suite. There was only 1 window a/c in the main room so it was difficult to get the bedroom cool enough to sleep comfortably.
I guess maybe I expected too much from a Choice Hotel.

We came to the area to ski at Giants Ridge and stayed one night here. The lobby looks nice and the young man at check in was very hospitable. Our room was clean, but smelled a bit like old cigarettes and the beds were definitely not true queen beds as advertised in the room description. They were full-size beds, so expect to get cozy! The pool was closed for repairs, which was sort of a bummer but not the end of the world. Our stay would’ve been more comfortable if the beds weren’t so small. We sort of felt duped. Overall, our stay was okay and the rate was very reasonable.

Recently, I stayed at the Quality Inn and I am definitely pleased. It has been remodeled from the Coates and what a difference. My room was on the 5th floor and it was spacious and modern. Price is very reasonable and close to everything. Staff is courteous and helpful. I highly recommend!

This old hotel was renovated a few years ago. The room was very nice, clean and quiet. The pool was a showstopper with a three story atrium. It was very clean. My only complaint was the very small parking lot in the back that didn't feel safe at night and the low shower pressure. Despite those things, I would stay there again.
