We have stayed at Stoney Ridge in both the cabins and in our own camper. What brings us back so many times??? Don, Marty and Dawn. Stay just one time and you're part of the family. The cabins are a bit rustic. If you're expecting a 5 star resort, this is NOT the place. If you're expecting something comfortable, small, quiet, and just outside of town, this is the place for you.
We usually stay in the cabin named "The Loons Nest" and the decor is loon themed. I think Don has the oldest working refrigerators in the cabins. Cold food stays cold. The room has a 2 burner hot plate, a pan or two, dinnerware, silverware and cookware. Also comes with a toaster, microwave and a color,cable tv that sits on top of the refrigerator. The cabin has 2 full size beds that are old and a bit tired. We bring our own foam mattress toppers to make the beds a bit more hospitable. The sheets are all cotton, old, and oh, so soft.There is a bathroom with shower. The bathroom has it's own hot water heater so hot water is plentiful. There is no kitchen sink, so an idea would be to bring a basin to use as a sink;
Cabins come with the use of a boat. Fishing is most often awesome and you can even catch fish right off their docks! The resort has their own fishing store with ample live bait, and line, lures, and all things that might be needed.
The main draw of Stony Ridge is the on-site restaurant. The food is great, and plentiful. If you leave hungry, it's your fault. The hashbrown breakfasts are not to be missed. One service CAN feed two people. The lunches and dinners are also awesome, with sandwiches, burgers and, of course, walleye.

My wife and I just returned from our third visit to Stony Ridge. We have brought our family up the last two years and have rented three of the cabins. The cabins are small and old, but they have a bed and bathroom with hot showers. There is a TV in each cabin, but who is watching TV on a fishing trip? Each cabin has a small, cold, refrigerator, toaster, microwave and gas burners. Each cabin has its own fishing boat, plus I bring my own and can dock it with no extra fees. All ten of my family members( three generations) would eat our meal out by the fire ring, and when we finished, the Stony Ridge staff washes and returns your dishes to your cabin. At the end of the day, we would have a big fire at the ring, then go to bed exhausted. If you want, you can order from the restaurant, and the staff will happily bring their GREAT food to your cabin I guess you have to know what you want in a resort. My family comes to fish, and Shagawa Lake doesn't disappoint. If you want a fancy, expensive place, they are all around the Ely area. Don, Marty and Dawn are very friendly, and will greet you by name every morning. My daughter in laws, son, and grand kids would walk to town almost daily on the near-by bike trail. I have been to many resorts, some of them very fancy, but this little resort is perfect for my family, and we have already booked for next year.

Enjoyed our family vacation in two of the resorts rustic cabins. Feels like a step back in time although completely adequate. Reminded me of Bible Camp when I was a kid. The use of a fishing boat come with cabin rental, we just pay for gas. There is an honor system bait shop with loaner gear and a very good restaurant on site. Massive burgers were just delish! Stuffed hash browns were also very good. Lots to see and do in the area. Stayed four days and never bored. Our hosts were very friendly and Don has many useful fishing tips. I caught a 19" small mouth bass by the island in front of the resort. Perch were also biting. So peaceful to listen to the loons call from the cabin. Enjoyed a morning thunderstorm thru the skylight our last morning. We will hopefully make it back next year!!

"Come and enjoy Stony Ridge's 1940's rustic style cabins.
These cabins feature Pine interiors, cooking facilities,
refrigerator, bathrooms with showers, skylights (to enjoy
starry nights) and cable T.V."

This is what is advertised on their web site.

Nothing fancy. We stayed in the 2 bedroom unit. You walk into the kitchen/dining/livingroom. There you will find a hot plate with some pots and pans and a few dishes on one side of the room and a table with a toaster, microwave and a radio on the other side of the room. Next to that is a older refridgerator with the TV sitting on top. No kitchen sink. At the end of the room is a bench with a back to sit on. No cushions for comfort. The floor is wood throughout with a piece of linolium from the 60's laid on top in the front area. The two bedrooms are on the other side of the wall. No doors. The beds should have been replaced 10 years ago. They furnish the bedding -sheets and blankets. No mattress pad. The bathroom was very small. Toilet, sink and shower stall and the water heater. You supply your own towels. The unit does come with a 14' fishing boat and motor. (you pay for the gas) They offer a firepit for nightly fires and supply the wood. Also a BBQ grill and picnic table. There is also a restaurant at the resort. We were unable to eat there because they choose when they want to be open. The night we wanted to have dinner there, we were told they were out of meat. We have stayed at several hotels in Ely but wanted to try a resort this time. I feel it is over priced for what you get. On the upside, the resort is on the edge of town. So you are close to shopping, the North American Bear Center and The Wolf Center and everything else Ely has to offer.

Our cabin could have used a steam cleaning - everything felt sticky and the two throw-rugs were so incredibly dirty. Under the futon were clumps of dog hair/dust, etc. Our bed frame was broken so needless to say it creaked every time we moved on the bed and the mattress was as flat as a pancake. There was no wash basin to do dishes, but we didn't even go there. The owner is very pleasant but doesn't seem to have a clue as to the importance of cleanliness, regardless if it is a rustic fishing cabin or not.

This place had the worst cabins I have ever seen at a resort. The cabins are super small, a square 12x12 room, no where large enough for a small family of 3. The bed had tear in the mattress ,the box spring had a black mold on it. Under the futon looks like it has never seen a broom. Also black pellets like mouse droppings under the futon. The cabins are across the street from the lake. This resort was not walking distance from town. Completely gross, Needless to say we didn't stay and lost $174 deposit.

Asked a local (at Dees bar) where to grab a bite and they recommended Stony Ridge Resort as a hidden gem. It was! Hidden and a gem! Small and rustic resort on Shagawa Lake, blocks from downtown-we sat lakeside on deck. Servers were friendly and when we saw the menu and inquired about burger size, she modestly replied ‘most people say they are quite large’. Apparently we aren’t most people because we thought they were HUGE! We split a burger and enjoyed side salads and had a hard time finishing! It was delicious and a fun adventure in Ely! $2 split plate charge was worth it! Definitely would go again if ever in the area!
