We found our room comfortable and inviting. It was fun to get a wake up call to see the Tregurtha leave the harbor. Great view. Next time we will definitely stay on the side of the Aerial Lift Bridge.

They go the extra mile! Good coffee, breakfast and cookies in the afternoon. Everything is very clean and the people are all very nice. Lovely place to stay and location is perfect. So fun to watch the big ships come in right by the hotel and people watch to. Right across the street you could head for the beach in the water. And at night if it was cool enough or early in the morning there was a fire.

I have just returned from a stay at the South Pier Inn on Canal Park. The Inn sits on Lake Superior and is an ideal spot to watch ships enter, and leave, the harbor. While the majority of rooms face the water, our room (103) was neighborhood facing. Despite this, there was ample seating in areas facing the water. The rooms were inviting and clean and the staff was helpful and friendly. The continental breakfast included local foods and was healthy and filling. The Inn's owners have paid attention to detail in planning and maintaining this property.

Excellent, well maintained inn. Staff was friendly. Room was clean and neat. I liked the second floor balcony – very nice. Great location, quiet and not in the middle of canal park. Well-stocked continental breakfast. Reasonable prices(rooms facing the parking lot).

This hotel is in a great location. Right over the bridge, close to everything you want to see. We came back to our room around 11:00p and had bugs all over our bed, walls, ceiling, floor, bathroom. I called the front desk to ask for a vacuum and the kid working said with an attitude "you really want to vacuum this late at night?" I said yes if it means not having bugs everywhere. Not very good customer service. When we come back to Duluth we will be staying somewhere else. This hotel is overpriced when you factor in having bugs all over your room. The location doesn't matter either. This is a problem with all ground level rooms that they don't tell people about (for obvious reasons). The person working when we checked out didn't have much to say.

Response from Branden R, General Manager at South Pier Inn on the Canal
Responded 2 weeks ago
Dear Nathan, Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences, and I am very sorry about both the bug issue, as well as the customer service concern. The bugs were a result of a brief seasonal event that causes these aquatic midges (which do NOT bite but have a similar appearance to mosquitoes) to become extremely prevalent in the Canal Park area due to the proximity to the water. Since the midges are attracted to light at night, it causes some of them to get into the room when the doors are opened, and unfortunately our regular, preventive pest treatments don't eliminate them since they collect in high-light areas on the exterior of the building. I am sorry about the response to the vacuum request. While we are more than happy to assist our guests with any issue, at any time, I know the concern was with the noise a vacuum may create late at night. Nonetheless, I understand that the response should have been more professional and focused on resolving the issue. Please contact me directly so we may discuss your stay further. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to regain your trust in our property, and earn your business on a future stay. Warm Regards, Branden R. General Manager
