Detailed Reviews
Wife booked 2 non smoking rooms, when got confirmation it stated "2 Queens" nothing about smoking or non smoking, this day and age a lot of hotels are total non smoking, Since it did not say "smoking" she assumed they where non smoking. When we arrived they stated we had reserved smoking rooms, they were full and that was all they had. We complained, wife is allergic, could not use them. Front Desk said they could not do anything. We went to the room, terrible, smoking rooms are concentrated with smoke. They offered an air cleaner, never brought it. She called for manager, whom stated she would see what she could do. She then called back to state that there were other rooms on floors that are closed because not enough housekeeping staff. They prepared one and we moved to it. We had another room reserved for a crew member the next day, she was also able to get him a non smoking room. We had booked with a group. To change the second room they claimed we had to pay the difference between the group rate and the normal rate. Which we did to get our crew member, a non smoker, a non smoking room. Personally, I think it is sad that you can get mixed up on a booking and then they charge you additional to get it changed. That's just taking advantage. I suspect if we were gamblers it would have gotten straightened out for free. We were there with a group that took about 200 rooms. Sounds like they appreciated the business in these poor economic times. The hotel is over priced for it's condition. Would never consider staying there again. No free breakfast, no free internet, no bell hop, I know it's a pandemic out there but I suspect it's not much better there in normal times.

Hi Birtrand M, Thank you for your visit, rating and review. We are sorry you did not enjoy your visit as we would have hoped. We do offer non-smoking rooms which must be requested when making reservations so they are kept available for those wanting them. We also do offer special group rates sometimes that are lower than individual room rates. We also apologize for the misunderstanding that caused you to not be provided the air cleaner you requested. Your feedback will be reviewed by our Management Team. If you would like to speak with a member of our Management Team, please call Dan at 906-635-4968. Your time and attention are appreciated. We do hope to see you again. Have a great day! Dawna

I booked this hotel on its great reviews. I’m wondering what people take as great about a hotel to rate this one great. And it’s not even covid related. Sure it sucks like everything is closed inside but still.....even without covid, I’d feel the same.
1. There is no fridge or microwave. Sure it didn’t list them but even the most basic $60 a night hotels and motels I stay at have them anymore.
2. There is no bathroom fan. Like why? There’s a heat lamp and it is the UP so I get that but no fan? So when showering I keep the door open and having to use the restroom is not pleasant with no fan. Who makes bathrooms without fans?
3. The beds are harder and not comfy
4. The lights, half of them were burnt out in my room
5. The wallpaper in my room is torn and peeling
6. The tv is lower than the bed so it’s very uncomfortable to watch
7. I hear everything in the hallways and that’s how I woke up in the morning
8. It’s hell to carry your luggage from the parking lot to the hotel. I didn’t find any carts and I won’t fault the hotel for that. People leave them in hallways and they have to always sterilize them so it’s a non complaint. But that walk with luggage sucks.
9. The gift shop is insane. I got a hoodie in town for $26 that the gift shop charged $49 for. I get the up charge but almost double? Insane
10. The service sucks. Maybe they had to downsize for covid or something but with the heavy check ins and front desk always slammed, we found no one to help us, but the temp check guy, who was awesome but didn’t have all the answers.
11. Nothing told me about a $50 deposit on my card at check in....
The check in people are great.
I did like temp check and mask requirement.
The exterior building looks good. Landscaping is great.
The check in was smooth and they even let me check in early.
The hallways are clean.

It is impossible to get hot water in bathroom sink. My room had a no handle faucet and no way to adjust the water temperature. The water always came out very cold. People need hot water to wash and shave. Had to run hot water in bathtub and use the ice bucket to put the hot water in the bathroom sink.
Room was nice and clean. But doors slamming closed in the hall way kept waking us up. Need to have soft close doors.
Kewadin can afford to put hot water in the bathroom sink for $85 a night.

Stayed 2 nights - A Monday and Tuesday. The staff was very friendly, helpful and professional. I appreciate that. I was in a suite on the 5th floor. The room was spotless and seemed to be well maintained. The bathroom sink faucet is "touch controlled" (?) Almost no hot water at the sink, at all. Shower was great. The floor and room were very quiet. Maybe due to being there on weekdays?
Unfortunately the restaurant was not open on Monday/Tuesday. Only the sanck bar/ deli had food, so I ate else where.
I have to agree with other reviewers concerning the casino. Machines are tight. Maybe then will set them back to "normal algorythms" once the covid retrictions are loosened.
Overall my experiance was good and I had a pleasant stay.

Hi J3571BTmikem, Thank you for your patronage of Kewadin Casinos and your 4-Star rating and review of Kewadin Casinos Hotel in Sault Ste. Marie. We are glad you enjoyed your visit and suite. We purchased and installed many new touchless items for Kewadin Casinos and Hotels during 2020 for protection of the health and well-being of our customers and staff. We want everyone to stay well while having fun at Kewadin! Our machines pay out the same as those machines do at other casinos and are within industry standard, but are random so we never know when or how much a person will win. We hope you signed up for and consistently used our players club card. If so, we expect you will be pleased with the reward offers you receive based on your level of play. If you would like to speak with a member of our Management Team, please call Dan at 906-635-4968. We appreciate your time and attention and hope to see you again soon. Have a great day! Dawna

The hotel staff appeared to be cleaning and sanitizing probably for the pandemic. However, the hotel room vas very dated—needs a good remodel. In addition, the slot machines were very tight—no one appeared to be winning. One a positive note, you can get cheap drinks—a glass of wine was $3.75.

We decided our first venture since the onset of the Covid Pandemic would be the Kewadin Casino. Everyone wore masks and no contact temperatures were taken. We booked a King Suite. The room was clean and spacious with very comfortable down pillows too! Coffee pot, microwave and tiny fridge in room. Our bed was pretty comfortable as well. We enjoyed the jetted spa tub that held two larger adults comfortably. Unfortunately the hot tub at the pool was not repaired. Evidently they awaited a part? There was a sauna. The type where you pour water over hot rocks. It was enjoyable. The pool was a bit chilly. All and all it was a nice time away. Wish the restaurants and bingo were open but the pandemic has put a damper on us all. The staff was very friendly! Specially the staff upon entering the casino at the hotel area. We donated to the electric bill this trip 😞 LOL

Hi 569luaf, We are glad you enjoyed our sauna and King Suite with its jetted spa tub, coffee pot, microwave and small fridge. We are sorry the hot tub at the pool was temporarily closed for repair and that the pool temperature was not as preferred. Yes, our sit-in restaurant is temporarily closed, but our popular deli remains open per schedule. We will also have bingo again. Please watch our Kewadin website for updates. Thank You so much for the VIP invitations for the New Years Eve Party! We watched the weather forecast for a week, and were so relieved that the Ice storm blew through and the highway from Wawa was open for the drive.
We were a bit worried when we checked in and were told that someone cancelled our reservation on Dec 17th? There weren't any specific notes about the cancellation, so no one knew why it was cancelled. (2 Decades of owning a Motel, taught us to accept Email cancellations only. It's very important to get everything in writing.) But after a short visit to Executive Services, everything was seamlessly worked out, along with some bonuses for the inconvenience.
The VIP dinner was great. The Chicken was delicious. Fun Party gifts, oodles of Swag and Goodies.. The Staff running the party, and serving the guests were so efficient and friendly, as were the Pit Bosses and Dealers. John and I worked New Years Eve Parties for 20 years in Edmonton. We understand how the Hospitality Industry Workers often go unappreciated on "Holidays".
We've been playing Blackjack together for 35 years, and would certainly visit Kewadin more often if they got rid of the Automatic Shuffle Machines. The Shuffle and the cutting of the deck, is simply a part of Blackjack. The end of the shoe always gives you a chance to regroup, count up ALL your winnings (If you are lucky. lol), not to mention that the Shuffle is always a welcome bathroom-break too. We were happy to see that they had a few tables with shoes on New Years Eve, but they were higher limits than we prefer to play. We played them anyway and as always, had great fun!
Thanks again for a Wonderful New Years Eve Party!

Family visit from a Friday to Sunday on a comp in a standard room.
We checked in around 6:30pm and so did a huge gathering of golfers. I was given my keys but no information on the hotel and amenities. We have never stayed at this location before. I asked questions and the front desk ladies were so focused on the golfers checking in I had to figure out my answers on my own, even after telling her this was our first time here. We left the front desk and found the elevators ourself along with directions and hours of the pool. Pool is on the 2nd floor BUT you take another elevator down a floor. Walked into our room and opened the curtains and our view was of the inside of the hotel. I did not care for that at all. I felt like I was in a box looking for light! Room was ok but definitely not spacious. No microwave or refrigerator. St Ignace Kewadin has both and a balcony overlooking the bay. Bed was comfy. Food at the deli was open and great prices but the man behind the counter was annoyed and agreed with me he was! Who does that? Front desk security had regular clothes on and was sleeping at his stand one evening! Jesse? All other security was well dressed and very nice. Jesse was nice but different. The gift shop was awesome with really decent pricing. Kind of surprised me! The casino play was horrible and very very tight. I know covid is raging right now but its very hard to sip on drinks with your masks on! Security was insane with this! Like watching every move you make. Parking was easy and you are in a great location to the touristy stuff. The bridge to the parking lot needs to be fixed. The boards are scary and it feels like your going to fall in the water. Literally a board came up when we stepped on it. Overall good location and a place to rest your head.

I was there for the MIPARACON last weekend. The reason I gave this hotel 1 star is because of location. The reception at the front desk was rude. The halls all smell of cigarette smoke. When we got to our room, it was musty smelling. We turned on the air and that too smelled musty. The bathroom curtain was draped over the shower rod and the bottom of the curtain was dirty. The shower nozzle was hanging out the wall, not connected. The sink was motion activated - with only hot water. I don't brush my teeth with hot water. There was no stopper in the sink. The caulking around the toilet was gross. The beds were uncomfortable and the pillows were hard. We travel a lot and I never write reviews, but this needed to be said. This hotel needs to take some of the money they make from the casino and put it into updating these rooms. On the up-side, the waitresses in the restaurant (Dreamcatchers) were awesome!! Next year I'll be staying at a different hotel if I attend the MIPARACON.

Nowadays, you get a non smoking room when you check in hotel as a default. But not this time! After we arrived 6th floor and walked in the room, the overwhelming smell almost choked. How could they assign us a smoking room without checking with us! Even we got a non smoking room later, the hotel staff should have the common sense when assigning a room to customer.

Hi Summer 620, Thank you for your patronage, rating and review. We apologize for the misunderstanding and that you did not enjoy this visit as much as we would have hoped for you. Because they are limited, non-smoking rooms are not set as a default and you are encouraged to request a non-smoking room while making reservations any time you want one. People who want non-smoking rooms generally make it clear that is what they want, so we do our best to accommodate as we did for you even after you had already arrived. If you stay in Michigan which this casino is you will not need passports.
If you ask for them when you get there, you will get them! I've always had a fridge and microwave! $3 per night!
You have to pay for alcohol drinks but they are much cheaper than most bars when you order them. They will serve you while you are playing or you can go to the bar and order yourself. Plus you can walk anywhere in the casino with your drinks. The rooms are not that bad. I do not smoke either and I didn't think the rooms smelled like smoke at all. They are pretty good about keeping their smoking floors separate from the nonsmoking floors. Hope this helps! Have a great time!
