We arrived to the barvarian haus on a Thursday evening St Ignace. The hotel is definitely dated. The positive is the location it’s right on the lakefront and only a mile away from the ferry docks. The room is large and has a fridge. The beds were comfortable and the sheets were clean. The best part is the lakefront view with a patio or balcony. The pool is large there are two hot tubs available for use as well as a sauna. The front desk personnel are very nice and friendly. You also get free firework show on Saturday night and can view them right from your room. The negatives I am mentioning are purely from observation. This place has real potential. The wi fi was spotty. Our room had tv but the cable didn’t work. The latches to our patio door didn’t lock and there was only a bar to secure the door. The patio needs pressure washing and window cleaning. The pool area needed some tlc the water was cloudy and the PH was off. The hot tub was a nice temp but there was foam floating like someone put soap in it. The lake area is covered with bird droppings and feathers most likely from the seagulls. The breakfast was small I didn’t eat it but they have a few things to choose from. Overall, this was just a base for my family and I to visit Mackinac and the UP. We barely spent time in the room. However, I believe if this property put some elbow grease into this place it could be amazing!

Older style amenities but otherwise a great stay at a great value. Mattress and pillow were a bit too firm for my preference. The breakfast bar was very nicely done with hot pancakes, hard boiled eggs, oatmeal, fruit, cereal, etc. The pool was a tad chilly and the hot tub is inside where it is muggy. A neat feature was they still use actual keys for your room doors. The sunrise was perfect in the morning and the beach lovely. No microwave in the room but there was one in the hall. Overall, we would stay here again for the price and location.

We enjoyed our stay here. The room is pretty basic and dated, but the views from the room are spectacular. Check-in was easy and everyone was very friendly and helpful with questions about the area. If you’re planning on working out after a day of sitting in the car, you have to go to the office to get the safety key for the treadmills, and it’s like a treasure hunt to find the exercise room. (It’s on the third floor, at the very far end!). Breakfast was pretty basic, but good.

We have stayed here before, but many years ago. We appreciated the renovated room but for over $500 for two nights it was not worth it. It was not clean at all, and even worse once you started actually looking at everything. The bug problem is quite disturbing and to make it even worse the paper thin walls allowed for the inconsiderate guests to make the experience worse. The poor excuse of a “free breakfast” and horribly renovated breakfast space (used to have historical photos of St. Ignace) was unfortunate. They need to consider investing in an actual renovation of the building and a budget for better coffee & pests/bug spray. The only good part of the place was the rocks and water/beach area.

We were displaced when the cabin we reserved with another resort was not available upon our arrival. So, it was late, and we needed a pet-friendly hotel that was clean and safe. The room we secured looked updated and fine on the surface, with new looking carpet, modern bedding, and modern furniture. The closer we looked, the more we realized how gross the room really was. The tub did not drain at all. There was a chunk of a bodily substance (booger?) on the wall, there was hair and other debris on the bathroom floor. The sink fixture broke off and there was old debris that fell out of it into the sink while I was brushing my teeth. The deck that provided access to the second floor where our room was located was slippery from algae and appeared to be in such disrepair that it wiggled. There were not working gutters on the roof, and water drained directly onto the wooden stairs, causing a slippery hazard. The pool area was relatively clean looking on the surface, (it was outside and dark out), but the paint was peeling all over the pool edge, and concrete cracked and broken. My son actually cut his foot on the cracked concrete that had a sharp edge due to the layers of paint exposed and chipping. The entire deck around the hot tub was covered in green algae and was super slippery. There were some people in the pool who were yelling and screaming for like an hour and there was no one there to ask them to keep it down. There was also a play structure that appeared to be placed directly on a stormwater drainage swale that directed water toward the beach. It's an old hotel, but more effort should be made to make it safer and cleaner so that guests can be comfortable with the money they pay to stay here.

I stayed here for 4 nights while on a group bus trip. This a privately owned hotel not part of a chain. There are no phones in the rooms. I never saw a front desk. the hotel costs $225 per night. so 4 nights would have cost $900. I do not know what the tour company paid. I have stayed at much nicer hotels for much less than $225 a night. The hotel is open only 6 months per year. It is located o 10, minuets drive, minutes from the ferry that goes to Mackinac Island. The town does not have any god restaurants. The only reason anyone would stay here is because of it is close to the ferry. My room had a balcony with a view of water. In October it was too coldto use it.

The Desk clerk was very helpful with direct booking and upon check in, cheerful and efficient. Even though it's an older hotel, rooms were updated, very clean with everything needed for a comfortable stay. Microwaves are available in the dining area and on the 2nd floor; the refrigerator is in the room. If you choose to use the steps instead of the elevator, they're lower, easier to climb and not many between floors. The room was spacious and quiet. The balcony over looked the lake and with the window open at night, the waves will lull you to sleep. Although I didn't use them, kayaks, lounge chairs and hammocks on the beach are complimentary. They also offer volley ball, sun decks, firepits and playgrounds. The toilet seat was loose and not properly attached, but the maintenance man responded within five minutes and apologized. When I dropped my small earring down the sink drain, right before checking out, the desk clerk acted on it immediately, contacting maintenance. However I had to leave before they could work on it. I requested that if they found it to please mail it to me. Three days later I received the earring in the mail, along with two coupon cards and a nice thank you letter for staying there. They went over and above to deal with that issue even though that was of my own making.

Desperate for a place to stay after previous place fell through, we got one of the last two rooms. Two queen beds. The beds were unbelievably hard. My husband had to fold up of of the bath towels to put over an area where the spring was poking up in the mattress. Ultimately I had to fold up a small travel blanket to lay on to provide a small amount of cushion. Room was a non-smoking room but clearly smelled of smoke. One of the towels as so thin in has two small holes in it. Caution as it was rated overall a 7.8 in comfort when we booked. Maybe we got the only room not updated in the last 40 years.

Arrived at St.Ignace with reservations at the Baymont (next door), it was probably the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. We immediately went over to the Bavarian Haus and explained to them the issues we had with the Baymont. They immediately booked us for the next day as they were booked for that night. The rooms were super clean, they had a very nice beach with a fire pit, full size swimming pool, 2 whirlpools and a sauna, free kayaks, and other several things to do on their beach front property and they were $75 cheaper than the baymont. They are only 1 mile from town. Staff is friendly and courteous! This is a great place to stay!

Loved this place. Staff is friendly. Our room walked right out to the beach area with its fire pit areas with lots of seating and game areas and kayaks , that are free for guests to use. It's not fancy but is very clean. You see families here and couples, young and old alike. All the rooms have porches or balconies to sit on and relax and enjoy this wonderful view of Lake Huron and Mackinac Island. Breakfast was your standard with eggs and sausage, pancake maker, bagels, cereal, juices, milk and coffee.

Whether or not you can see the Northern Lights from any location depends on many things, not just how far north one is. That being said, if the Northern Lights would happen to be visible at that latitude and longitude, it would be a fantastic place to view them.
No we don't. Jose's Cantina is adjacent. They serve cocktails and will be open om Mothers Day. You may also take a complimentary shuttle to the local casino.
There are more places to choose from in the Saint Ignace area.
