Overall our stay was good. The loveseat had a rip in the armrest and wallpaper was peeling (not a tiny corner, quite noticeable) by the living room window. The room was very clean, as was the hotel. Staff were friendly. We were there seeing our daughter off to go to Japan. Our house is nice, I guess I feel a hotel room, at the price point we paid should be nice or nicer than my home, not have ripped furniture and peeling wallpaper. Fabric glue?? It bothered me a lot, but otherwise the stay was good. The shuttle service to the airport was great.
Easy check in upgrade to huge suite. Easy shuttle ride over great drivers here. Facilities are dated, tired need refreshed. Breakfast is just okay. Pool doesn't open till 8am. Rooms are quiet, bed comfortable. Plenty of free parking. Good restaurants nearby.
On July 14 I flew to Detroit to attend a funeral on the 15th. I carefully researched airport hotels. The one I wanted was The Westin but couldn’t justify $340 for 11 hours. So I chose the next best thing, Embassy Suites, still expensive at $200 but I prefer to be clean and comfortable in hotels. Embassy Suites has always fit the bill in the past. When I walked into Room 217 my heart sank. It did not have that clean feel I was used to and had a moldy odor with old worn out furniture. I took photos to prove all of my anxieties. The curtains were old, thin, shabby and torn. The sofa was torn in several places. The table had dried food on it. The beds looked like children had made them up and the pillows were small squares like the size of medium throw pillows. The bed spreads were worn out and thin. There were stains on the pillow cases and make upon one. The towels were shredding. The toilet was so small your knees were up in front of you. I was appalled and disheartened. But, like a big girl, I sucked it up and did my best to make the room to,enable by spraying it with sanitizer and perfume and covering areas with towels. I carry a travel sheet for those…’Just-in-case’ moments which I never thought would happen at an ES hotel. I put my sheet over the sheet and pillow case and tried to be a good soldier. I began to nod and opened my eyes and saw something moving. Startled, I jumped out of the bed and grabbed a tissue to see what this was. I hate bugs of any kind but at this point of desperation, the bar was so low, all I could hope for was that it was a filthy disgusting roach and NOT A BEDBUG‼️ I put the insect in the water glass with a little water and took a picture. When I enlarged the picture I was beyond upset and completely baffled…IT WAS A TEXTBOOK BEDBUG!!! I googled images of bedbugs to see if this really was a bedbug and…it really was a bedbug…smh. I called downstairs and told the desk clerk, Diamond, there was a bedbug in my be along with all the other cosmetic problems, she replied “I can assure you it is not a bedbug cuz we get checked for them every two weeks. I decided to take it down to the manager but that person was gone. I showed Diamond the photos of the condition of my room and she was disconnected. She explained the furniture is not their fault because Covid prevented them from remodeling. Ok, regardless of the reason, the facts were the facts. She didn’t need to prove anything just lend an ear of understanding how I was feeling about paying $200 for 11 hours. It seemed Diamonds customer service skills needed honing. Diamonds words of understanding and compassion were “Would you like to check out?” I kid you not. I was not trying to get a refund, I saved $10 by using Priceline instead of Hiltons site so, no, I’m just letting you know what’s happening…period. I told her I’d love to if she was going to pay for it! Of course not. When she first saw the bedbug she tried to tell me that was not a bedbug but when I showed her the enlarged photo and googles’ images, she could not deny it any longer. So, at this point, I wish I would have stayed at a Hilton Garden Inn or LaQuinta. They are usually clean. It’s 1am and I’m too afraid to close my eyes. I’m going to be a hot mess at the funeral in the morning…😪 Stay at your own risk ⚠️, don’t say I didn’t warn you‼️ This review is focused on the condition of the room at Embassy Suites, not on any individuals.…
after we missed an airline connection, we really liked this hotel and the friendly staff. Didn't have time to eat their breakfast there so I can't rate that. Nice, comfy hotel after a difficult flight and missed connection in Detroit.
My preferred hotel is Embassy Suites whenever I travel however I did not have a wow experience at this Embassy Suites. The people were super nice for the most part. My issues are that the hotel is outdated. We had to change a room because the tub had a crack in the porcelain that could cause some harm. However the new room tub was not as bad as that one but still outdated. Also I guess due to covid restrictions they don't service the rooms and you have to put a request for towels and washcloths. Like I said I think the hotel just needs a tremendous amount of updates. Other than that it was okay.
My wife and I had an early morning to Miami to catch a ship for a cruise to the Bahamas. We decided to stay at the airport the night before to avoid a 2:00am drive to Detroit. The convenience of the parking situation drew us as well as my being a Hilton Honors member. We were impressed with the cleanliness of the facility, and the friendliness of the staff! Thanks Hilton, this is why I have been an Honors member since 2002!
The bad part out of the way: cleaning staff being by at 10 when checkout is normally at 11 (we had late checkout) is reasonable. Having them stand in the hall and scream down the hall at one another - making the reason for your do not disturb sign moot - was NOT OKAY. Also, hotels always cut off breakfast hours WAY TOO SOON and that's frustrating for those of us that aren't on a corporate biorhythm. The night staff was friendly, fantastic, and actually present. The rooms are clean, and while some design stuff could be spiffed up - especially since most of the lamps seem to have a short in them somewhere and are precariously placed with plugs impacted by furniture - it made for a comfortable night.
I had an unscheduled stop in Detroit. The Embassy Suites was a perfect location, and from beginning to end, I was extremely satisfied. The room was very clean, the staff friendly and competent. The food options were adequate and I loved the Turkey burger option. The front desk was very helpful and made my stay pleasant. Luckily I did not check the reviews before I made my reservation, as I would have missed out on a great hotel.
Hotel is over priced very out dated, the rooms are disgusting not cleaned well at ALL!! Beds are NOT queen size they are full size. Bugs were in my room. Heat o my goes to 70. There was a party down the hall from us. We smelled marijuana all night and heard fighting. I travelled with my two small kids so this experience was horrible! This is by far the worst embassy suites I’ve ever experienced.
The heat did not work for my stay. They tried to fix it but was very unsuccessful. I was asked to move to a new room at 2:34am. My stay was very unpleasant and uncomfortable. I would not stay here again.
