We have stayed here several times, and on this visit we learned the previous owner has sold the Terrace to another motel in town, so it's no longer under Larry's care. The Terrace remains a good no frills motel. It is unbelievably quiet and the bed is comfortable and the room clean, but don't expect a lot of extras. Right now, because of Covid and difficulty hiring staff, the lobby is not open for coffee and there is no coffee in the rooms. Housekeeping will not service your room unless you request something. We did not, but our overhead light was out and as the room only has two lamps, it was too dim for reading. We could have called for a light bulb, but it seemed like a hassle. Housekeeping should regularly check all lights when guests are checking out to make sure everything is in working order. The shower was newly caulked, but it was obvious from the musty smell that the caulk was hiding mold underneath. There is no table in the room but there are two chairs. There is also a desk and dresser. If you want to hang clothes, a space is available, but our room only had three hangers. Like to lock your bathroom door? You can't if you are in our room because there was no locking mechanism. Two door knobs and empty space in between. People have commented on the price, but the motel charges what they can get, and the Terrace is a budget motel when you consider what every other motel and hotel are charging in town. We paid $100, which is too much for the motel of this standard, but it is the best deal in town. It is quirky, but if you are looking for a quiet place and don't care about decor, this place is fine.…
Previously submitted this review and definitely did upload pictures. The review posted but none of the pictures. I deleted that review and am trying this again. Attached are 7 pictures of the room we rented. Would not recommend this hotel. It is not worth the price charged.
Weird, strong fruity smell when I entered room, but went away when I pointed a (provided) box fan out the window. Shower head was missing. Couldn't get tv cable to work. WiFi was unusable unless I left motel door open. Obvious old building. Best I can say was it was clean.
We traveled last minute and didn't have many options - this place had decent reviews so we gave it a shot. But now I feel compelled to add to the reviews with one that in my opinion is a bit more accurate ... I'll start by saying that although the decor is very dated, it seemed clean. But it went downhill from there. The sofa was a very well worn futon that was too uncomfortable to use. Only other options were a desk chair and what looked like an old office chair. The bathroom had a door handle, but no latch to actually keep the door shut. Bathroom had a metal shower and many components were rusted (some paint anyone?!). The bedroom with 2 beds was very tight. There were no ceiling lights and I don't think any lamp bulb was brighter than 30 watts so it was very hard to read at night. No air conditioning, but the windows opened so temperature was ok, but with windows open we could hear everyone talking outside which got annoying when I wanted to go to sleep. Beds and pillows not all that comfortable. Like others said - they haven't updated their website to say there is no coffee in the lobby. No fridge in the room. I can look past dated decor, but what I couldn't look past is that I couldn't get comfortable. We purposely stayed out doing things just so we wouldn't be in the room. We paid way too much for the room and I couldn't wait to get home.…
not a friendly place, for what u pay you can go to a really nice hotel, it was supposed to have a microwave, mini fridge and air conditioning it had none of those the shower is so small its hard to get into, check out is at 11 we were still there until 11 but housekeeping came into our room 2 times while we still there no knock just walked in the second time was within 5 min! We went to dinner the waiter said where are you staying we told him only to find out we were in the second worst hotel in the area. honestly of all the towns we went to in the UP this was the only one we did not like
Dirty carpet, cheap old 2 flat pillows, thin old towels... rooms are dated. Limited support from the office. Smelled of cigarette smoke and allowed people to crowd in. The person that checked us in could not understand that we repaid on Booking.com But the housekeeping person was helpful. She got us a hair dryer and fresh towels.
It is mostly as advertised. We are use to certain amenities that we “assumed” they would have, but they do not. Due to Covid they are not serving Coffee in the lobby every morning. A recreation room includes a full kitchen and pool table…but you cannot use. I have dietary issues and was relying on the use of the kitchen, but isn’t so and if you don’t have the foresight to ask when booking you may be disappointed when you get there. In addition, they do not have a microwave or mini fridge in rooms (but have ice for your perusual, so bring a cooler to keep things cold.). No AC, but they tell you that on the website (something I also did not pay close attention to.). Rooms do have that old musty smell. Ceiling fans are in rooms and also a box fan to put in window. Showers work, water pressure fine…for a night or two ok, but for anything longer the not having those amenities got old quick. My recommendation, motels/hotels should be updating their websites so people know what they are getting for their $$. Prices, in my opinion, are cheaper than most everything in the area so there is that. Also, there aren’t a lot of restaurants in the area so it is slim pickings for food.…
We spent one night here on a road trip. An inexpensive locally run motel that meets the necessities. Clean, comfortable, and functional. Walking distance to downtown. Some perks that might be nice when visiting in colder weather (sauna, game room, firepit).
Thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay in room #7. Had 2 rocking chairs, 2 beds and ample space. Very clean and comfortable. No fridge or any amenities but we were right next to the community room where there was ice machine, coffee and equipment to fix your own food. It was all we needed and the price was more than reasonable. Larry was friendly, helpful. I agree with the last review that this is not a Marriott or more upscale hotel but it is a wonderful classic in a nice quiet setting. Could have walked into town but weather didn't cooperate. Bummer that Munising highway all under construction, weather was awful so pictured rocks cancelled and hard to find a decent meal in town but that is not the fault of the motel.
We stayed at Terrace 8/28-8/31/20. We were going to camp but when we arrived our campsite was under water...and it was still raining...we had a tent. In desperation we called ALL over, booked. We called Larry as a last hope and he had just had a cancellation (peoples kayak trip cancelled due to weather). So into room 7 we went. It was exactly what I expected from a small MOTEL in the U.P. Dated. But the room was clean, bathroom clean. Our room at the time was in process of being updated, new sink in bathroom, trim around windows replaced but not yet stained/painted. Everything worked the beds were comfortable. There is a community rec room/kitchen. There is a full size fridge in there for people to use, and a small gas stove (think small apartment stove), toaster/ microwave and cooking utensils (Also a pool table and nice big dry/steam sauna). The next morning we went to the camp ground (still raining) our site still underwater. We asked if we could stay the next 2 nights. Larry juggled some reservations around so we didn't have to move (the people he moved got an upgrade to larger room at no extra charge) and we "camped" at Terrace. This isn't a JW Marriott, and if that's what you are looking for you will be disappointed. But our experience was very good. Frankly Larry could have upped the rate on us, as that night we called in desperation, we'd of paid just about anything...he didn't take advantage of our situation at all! We are already planning to go back to Munising (we didn't get to kayak due to weather either) next year and will rebook at Terrace. Again if you are expecting fancy and lots of amenities this isn't the place for you. If you know what an Old Time Motel is you'll be fine.…
