Name of the hotel fits the area just right. You are right on the water. They provide picnic tables and chairs to sit and watch the sunset over the water. It was a little chilly and breezy to sit outside for me. But I would step out and get my pictures of the sunset each night. Katie that sat behind the desk was very helpful on places to go to or directions. Meet her when I came in to get breakfast the first morning. They have yogurt, danish not too fresh, coffee, orange juice and I believe banana’s. You enter the room to a room that had abed, dresser, table and chair and the tv. That bedroom was comfortable. Then there is a door with another bed and end table. That must be where everyone slept because that mattress needs to be replaced. The bathroom was ok. I felt the place to be cleaned.

Sure, the interior design is a bit dated. Sure, it’s not exactly the most modern. But it was decently quiet and it was clean for us. The full kitchenette was a nice touch with plenty of cutlery and plates. If you need a place to rest and nothing much more, it’s a great little spot. The views of the lake are incredible too! There’s a limited selection of pastries and breakfast items, but it’s free so I’m not complaining. I can’t speak for those who had a poor experience recently, but I had a decent stay here. Tldr: It’s basically a time capsule motel from the 1960s, but it’s a fine place to stay for a few nights.

Rude customer service, extremely overpriced and damaged rooms. Avoid. Worst experience of our entire trip. Don’t believe the high ratings from years past. Limit to past 12 months. We were really excited to patron a local business, but the moment we arrived, we were treated like an inconvenience. The room was described as a two bedroom. In fact, it was the same layout as all other rooms, but with a second bed shoved in where a couch should be. No couch in the room. Bathroom was dirty and extremely small with a child-size/elementary school toilet. Carpet was dirty and torn. Trim warped. Outdoor plastic chairs covered in dirt. All views from your room are blocked by vehicles in parking lot. We ended up leaving after 10 minutes. When we tried to get a refund, the attendant didn’t know how to use the scheduling software and didn’t understand how my credit card was already charged. She was unhelpful and wanted us to leave without confirmation of a refund. We had to dispute charges with CC company and send a detail timeline of our experience . If you want a great view of Lake Superior, with great rooms, pleasant staff, and unobstructed views…literally go next door to the Comfort Inn. It’s new construction, the same price and comfy beds. We ended up camping at Bay Furnace because sleeping outside in a tent was better accommodations.

Came up for the day and needed a place to stay. My wife booked this place for the view and proximity. Upon arrival, we were excited about the prospect of the view and a quiet evening. Our excitement faded as we got out of our vehicle. In front of the rooms is a brick wall with flower boxes on top. The flowers were all dead and the wall needed repair. We had a bunch of dead bugs in front of our door. The interior wasn't much better. Outdated furnishing, stained carpet and a super small bathroom were some of the features. As it is right now, it's not worth the money. This could be a fantastic retreat for couples if the owners invested some money. Update everything and get rid of the wall. The view is great, but you have to be outside to enjoy it. Can't see much from inside the room. We plan to come back to the area soon, so I hope to see if it's changed.

The room I stayed in was overpriced and in very poor condition. Paint peeling in the bathroom, no plug in the bathroom sink ( anything dropped in sink smaller than 50 cent piece would fall in the drain and be gone)

This is a vintage Motel in every sense of the word. Parking is in front of your room. (Or maybe a few spaces down if you leave for dinner) Check in was easy and fast. Our room was upstairs which has a very nice view of the Lake. The room had a small range, medium fridge, microwave and coffee machine. There was only sparse amenities. No decaf coffee, no half/half pods. Bathroom towels for the kitchen. There were adequate utensils and pans. Only two high stools for the breakfast bar and no table whatsoever. There was an overstuffed sofa for two. The two beds were comfortable. It was clean but a bit outdated. Thought the price was way too much. We have stayed many places with views for much less with very nice hot breakfasts included. The front office young man offered me a note (Coffee …(no decaf), apple juice, orange juice, granola bar!) The best features were the views to the west, tables and grills on the grass in front of the rooms. There is a 7 minute drive to town which sparsely offers limited dining. We took the pictured rock tour. Unfortunately the weather came up this late in September…certainly not their fault, however it was entertaining to watch the storm on the water.

We spent a couple of nights at the Sunset Motel on the Bay, last fall, staying at one of the vacation homes not at the motel itself. This was primarily due to availability issues but also because COVID-19 precautions. We chose the home closest to the waterfront, the blue Sunset Cottage. Not that location mattered as the other homes were merely steps away inland. This lodging is well-named and that view of the bay - at sunset and sunrise as well - can’t be beat. There were viewing chairs and barbecue pits set up. Even though the sun set behind the headlands at this time of year the colors were spectacular. The location was perfect for heading into town for shopping or dining as well as to board the ferries to Grand Island or the Painted Rocks cruises. There were a couple waterfalls in the hillside behind Sunset Motel on the other side of E.Munising Avenue, the Tannery Falls and Memorial or Twin Falls; to hike to these one has to take a short drive east on Munising Ave and take the first right onto Nestor St. and park there. There were 3 bedrooms up a fairly steep and narrow flight of stairs. The largest bedroom had a closet with lots of room for clothing. The other 2 bedrooms were quite a bit smaller. The living and dining room were on split levels. The kitchen was large, as was the dry room / laundry room. This would be a perfect storage space for gear. The appliances There was definitely enough room for a large family in terms of beds. There was space for preparing food in the kitchen. A big potential problem was this: 1 bathroom. Not an issue for a couple but a major issue for a small group let alone a larger one. The lodging left much to be desired, however, in terms of its upkeep. The front door took some getting used to opening and closing so we just used the side entrance through the laundry room. There were missing pads on some of the steps. Several of the light fixtures looked like they fit loosely. The door of the bedroom immediately at the top of the stairs could not close; the bed was too big and there was not enough room for the door to swing shut. Wallpaper was peeling off the wall in several places. Then there was the mouse. We had been hearing scratching and other strange sounds. The rodent finally showed up running around the dining area on our second night before disappearing into the kitchen. Good location, great sunset views, lots of room. But the downside of the cottage was significant including a single bathroom and poor maintenance. Hopefully maintenance work has been done since we stayed there. Look at the cottage as purely as place to sleep and eat rather than somewhere to hang out for any length of time.

The best thing about this motel is that it sits right at the edge of the bay. The sunsets were amazing from there. The room itself was somewhat shabby. The wood trim was distressed or not finished in some places. The carpet was stained in several spots, although I'm sure it had been cleaned. The bathroom was very small. I also thought it was strange that two outlets (one in the kitchen and one in the bathroom) were labelled with "Light must be on for outlet to work". As a result, we couldn't use a nightlight in the bathroom without keeping the light on, which defeated the purpose. The motel should bring these outlets up to current electrical standards. On the plus side, the bed, the bathroom, and the kitchen were spotlessly clean, the bed was comfortable, and the room was quiet. If all you are going to do is sleep here, it is adequate.

Motel was clean and staff were nice. The motel is a few feet from the bay and every room has a bay view, but the view is obstructed by parked cars. Curtains must be closed if you want privacy. The room was also awkwardly designed, probably due to the addition of an interior wall to separate the two queen beds.

We just returned from staying in the brown house here. We (and members of our family) have stayed at this motel periodically over the last 15-20 years and this will be our last time. Let me start with the pros because it’s a short list. Pros: -the sunsets are very nice to view here. Cons: -I always check the beds first thing. Well, all 3 beds had a gross amount of hair and dirt on the sheets as well as indentations from where people laid!! THEY DID NOT EVEN CHANGE THE BEDDING!!!! We arrived in the evening and had to wash all the bedding before we could go to bed that night. -the house was very dirty when we arrived. Carpets did not appear vacuumed (I dropped something and when picking it up it was covered in cobwebs) -speaking of cobwebs, they were everywhere....I mean everywhere! I don’t think they cleaned before opening the house for the season! We literally had a spider on our breakfast plate, in our purse, in the kitchen sink multiple times, in the bed. -the toilet started leaking across the floor and wasn’t flushing properly. We had maintenance come look at it. He tried to tell us it was condensation. Um, no. He ended up needing to change the O ring. -the bathroom sink was draining extremely slowly. We went to the front desk to let them know and the lady working asked if we tried plunging it! Um, not our job!!! They never fixed it. -shower had black mold all the way around it (photo) -the porch furniture was dirty -living room furniture....well, by this point I decided not to sit on anything with fabric. It is very dated and didn’t look clean so I sat on the hard dining room chairs all week. -Kitchen drawer fronts literally fell off when opening them. I know this is a long review but I want you to know what you’re getting into if you’re looking at staying here. We did let the owner know and he did compensate us one night back (out of a 5 night stay)
