To be fair, I read the reviews before staying and thought I would take the chance since smell and outdated furniture doesn't mean much to me. We stayed for 3 nights and it wasn't good; carpet very dirty, chairs were dirty, pillows smelled like body order, wall paper peeling off walls, used tissue and someone's shoes found under our bed. The front door had to be slammed in order to close and there still was a good size gap. We were in room #8.
This place was so depressing! The paint was all scratched off the door and the window had a crack or more scratches. Couldn’t tell. The decor was awful. I don’t think it has changed since the “stay away” review in 2011. The bed was comfortable but I couldn’t wait to get out of there. I would avoid this place.
Bathroom smelled like urine. We didn't mind no A/C because the nights cooled down and we would open the windows. We couldn't let in the fresh air because the screens were ripped and we didn't want Mosquitoes or worse coming in. Upholstered chair stained. Mirror had unclean spots on it. Thankfully the beds seemed clean.
We stayed in cabin #2. Very clean and comfortable. No frills but that's ok because price was right. Trail is outside your door for snowmobiling. Also great trailer parking. Close to gas station and eating places. Would stay again.
Mom and pop motel room was clean with a comfortable bed and hot shower. Decent size room included a small fridge and microwave. Check in was friendly and convenient. Located just a few miles from the small town of Munising, which was home to several mom and pop restaurants, grocery and hardware stores, gas, and a nice Pictured Rock boat cruise. Mini golf and ice cream practically next door. Lots of waterfalls close by. Room, with a king sized bed, was $60/night, including taxes and fees. No pool/ hot tub, just a home base to take in the UP sights, and a bed and shower each night. If you have a larger group, there are also 4 cabins on the grounds. Can't speak to how many they sleep or price, but look nice from the outside. Only 15-20 motel rooms total, so plan accordingly to reserve in advance. Community gas grill and fire pit also on the grounds.…
We stayed for one night, 6 of us in a cabin, it was perfect for what we needed. Soft full size beds, hot, strong shower, coffee maker. TVs are old, but that shouldn't be a deal breaker! There is dining close by, would stay again. 135$ a night off-season was a steal. Thanks so much!
Motel: If you are looking for a cheap place to get a good night of sleep with a hot shower, this place is fine, as long as you don't mind an out-dated room with some cobwebs here and there. Pros: Cheap - $60 for 2 people with 2 beds Comfortable beds Plenty of hot water for showers Microwave & refrigerator Wifi Easy to get to, and close to town Cons: No coffee maker, Styrofoam cups, etc. Very low shower head Out-dated - old tv, bath fixtures, etc. Not super clean, but not filthy either. Acceptable at this price. I would stay here again at this price.
Spent one night in Cabin #3 at Hillcrest this past August while visiting Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The room was interesting. Cabin was divided (by 3/4 wall) into two sections -- sleeping room with two beds and the main common area. The common area consisted of a full kitchen (stove, refrigerator, pots/pans, utensils, coffee pot, etc.), dining area (table with four chairs) and another bed. The bed was a bit odd in the common area, but if you need room for six to sleep, this is your place. The small TV's (one in each room) were tube TV's from late 90's and were mounted high on the wall. Bathroom was small but everything in good working order. A few other notes: 1) Cabin was a bit stuffy, so turned on the window AC unit which blew out 'luke-cool' air throughout the night. Never really did cool down over night. 2) Wi-Fi available and it did work, 3) no coffee in the rooms though there is a coffee pot and 4) not all the cabins are marked with room numbers, so just figured 3rd one in must be #3. Hotel is about 3 miles south of the town of Munising. It only took about 10 minutes to get from the hotel to the parking lot of Pictured Rocks Cruises. For one night, hotel was satisfactory.…
Nice place for an overnight stay. Rooms are dated but clean. Reasonable priced lodging. No AC but rooms have fans, refrigerator and microwave. No coffee in room but you can get s cup or 2 in the office.
We stayed in the motel and this place was definitely a bit run down. The owner is not all that welcoming but we were able to get our keys quickly upon arrival. It is fine if you need something last minute. The bed, toilet, and shower were all clean, but this is not the kind of place you want to be for more than a sleep and a shower. It was convenient that they had a mini fridge in the room.
