‘Amaranthe Bay’ sits poised at the edge of the slow meandering Pillaikulam Aru, a sentinel of luxury in a stunning landscape of calming sunrises and psychedelic sunsets, caressed by the breezes that waft across the still waters of the river, serenaded by birdcall and the swishing of oars, bathed in a glow that only paradise can offer you. This is ‘Amaranthe Bay.’

Having been to Sri Lanka five times over the last 23 years this was a Nice hotel and grounds on the backwater so not on the beach but peaceful and quiet. Nice large rooms with backwater views but the decorator should have been sacked as he certainly didn’t know where walls

We stayed at the resort for 6 nights and loved every minute of it. The location, pool and gardens are quiet and relaxing and the staff could not do more for you. A free boat ride takes you onto the main beach and it is also an easy walk back. The food is great but there are

This is a fantastic review, Merilyn, thanks for your praise of our location, scenic views, pool and especially staff! I’m particularly delighted with your recommendation of us a destination of choice for a tranquil and relaxing vacation. Especially after staying with us for six nights, your lovely write up makes all of us extreme happy. When I discuss your write up with Anne, the front office manager, she brought to my knowledge that you both are very good artists. You have taken the picture of the flowers, displayed in the front office and you promised to send that flower with your own artistic painting. She too also mentioned that you loved our fresh plantains. I promise that I will get you at least five varieties of fresh plantains on your next visit to Amaranthe Bay. Thank you for taking your time to write us, we look forward to seeing you again! Please come back soon! Leslie, Anne and the Team

We came to this hotel with 13 adults. We stayed for 3 nights and I wish we would have stayed more. From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the beauty of the property and its set up. I would say Amaranthe Bay Resort is the best hotel in Trincomalee. The rooms are so

Dear Jenny, Thanks for this very positive review! We are glad you were so happy with the quality of rooms. This is great feedback that we love regarding what we think are one of the best rooms built in Sri Lanka to this date. Who doesn't like their own private Jacuzzi in their room ? While Amaranthe Bay was built, one of our mandates was to build a very ambitious Eco-Green environment which kept to a minimum the impact on the lands, vegetation and wildlife which is something we attend to diligently every day, with care to maintaining the upkeep and cleanliness. When I read your review to our staff they were really happy and Chef was thrilled. Spa manager personally thanked you for such a nice comment. Hope you would have enjoyed your excursion trip to Sigiriya as well as the village tour. I’m happy you enjoyed your time with us and thank you for your time in sharing your feedback with us and our supportive online community. Looking forward to your next visit! With best wishes and sincere thanks Leslie, Anne and the Team

Private hire van but it’ll cost you upwards of 20k usually. Not a very cost effective way of traveling but if money is no issue then go for it! :-) I go frequently to Trinco - night ‘luxury’ bus leaves at 10 and 11pm from Colombo central and arrives 4am ish. 1200 rupees per person. Contact ‘Superline’ bus travels. It’s a coach and pretty comfortable.

May is usually the start of Southwestern monsoon so Trinco should be okay. Beach is about 200m away but the immediately near beach is inside the property of adjacent hotel Trinco Blu. You can use it after informing the security but it is usually crowded. Hotel arranges lagoon rides as well as ocean activities depending on the weather. Better to call them ahead and enquire about activities like snorkeling. There are a lot of places of interest around Trincomalee so the best thing would be to look in Tripadvisor on suggestions, pick out what you'd like, and ask the hotel whether things could be arranged within the duration of your stay. That being said, enjoy the beaches and seafood as much as you can.

how's the weather in novemeber?
The North-eastern monsoon will be active in November but it's difficult to predict the amount of rain since the weather patterns are not very reliable. But if monsoon is active with rough seas activities like snorkeling at pigeon island would be affected.
