Let me start by saying Graskop is not large. It is a one supermarket one gas station town. No traffic lights. And despite that, Daan's Place is not easy to find though only a block off the main road. At first you might think the neighbourhood looks a little sketchy so google map before you go. No worries though, Daan's is an oasis.

Fully secured, walled and gated with sheltered from the sun parking for each of the present five rooms, the suites are really mini-apartments complete with stove, fridge, sink, microwave, full kitchen utensils, heater, wall mounted LED TV with unbelievable on-demand selection (literally hundreds of choices), a bathroom with sink, toilet, shower, lots of hot water, and hotel sized bedroom with comfortable beds, new linens, towels, blankets, in short, everything you need except the groceries you buy and the clothing you wear.

Your host is very helpful and eagre to please. He really goes out of his way for you and that can make all the difference. He has some ambitious expansion plans as well and hopes to grow his business. And he should; he is doing everything right.

Breakfast is offered but extra, and he has an internet cafe, as well as games area, pool and bar of sorts.

Graskop is conveniently located at the start of the panorama route which start to finish is about a sprightly two hour drive without stops (and obviously it takes much longer if you hit all the vistas).

We arrived without a reservation and the owner could not have been more accommodating knocking down the usual cost of a double room by R100 (US$10.) without our asking just because, I think, he sensed we had a long day and needed a break. And that really is the reason for coming here. The owner clearly wants your business and deserves to have it.

And, of course, he is perfectly located, a gas (petrol) station at the end of the street, and a full supermarket next door to that. Another 300 m and you have the main street with a selection of some nice stores and eateries including more pancake houses per capita than probably anywhere on the continent.

The town of Sabie is a mere twenty minutes away, and anything you might not find in Graskop you will find there.

Very good value and key location at the start of the panorama route makes this a notable place to stay. That said, this is not an upscale town nor upscale accommodation - luxury or pampered is not the key word here. But it is well priced, quiet, secure, very well outfitted, and the owner clearly works to make this a welcoming destination where you needs are fully met and that says a lot.

One further note -- because of the relatively high elevation you may find the weather unpredictable. Fog, the real heavy thick can't see your hand in front of your face kind, does roll in and we got socked when we were there so no panorama for us this time. If you get a clear day, and there is a good chance you will, take full advantage of it.

Not a long review but then, Graskop is not that big a place. If you found this helpful, I always appreciate a quite click of that button.

Daan's Place is an excelent place to stay in Graskop. The rooms are very clean and very nicely decorated. We had a kitchen in the room, so there is also the possibility to cook. The owner of Daan's Place is very friendly and helps with planning day trips to the attractions around Graskop. It is also nice that the yard of Daan's Place (where you can park your car) is secured by an automatic gate - and you get a remote for the gate along with your room key, so you can easily leave at any time during your stay, and feel very secure when you're back in your room. The only thing that was a little disadvantage: Our room did not have a shower, only a (nice and big) bath tub, so we had to bath instead of taking a shower... which is of course more fun but also takes a little bit more time. All in all I can really recommend Daan's place, we really enjoyed our stay here.

Very nice, clean quality self catering unit with quality beds and linens. Secure property with electric gate and wall, next to police station. Great internet cafe equipped with play stations, computers, big screen tv, comfy couches and a variety of beverage choices- including a full bar. Great wifi in rooms and throughout the property. DS tv in all rooms with digital movie and tv catalogue to keep you entertained. Restaurant on site as well. Great place to relax before heading to the Kruger.

Clean, hot water and comfortable beds. Secure convenient location. Marred by loud music. The apparently intoxicated heavy smoking host was a bit over the top

Places to visit; God’s Window, Berlin falls, Pilgrims Rest and Blyde River Canyon and surrounds.

We stayed at Daan's place for 3 nights to visit the blyde river canyon and the kruger national park. It was the perfect place to stay to start our day tours. The owners were absolutely friendly, welcoming and helpful with planning our routes.
The rooms were very spacious and clean and wifi was available for free.
We really enjoyed our stay a lot and can recommend Daan's place to everyone! Thank you very much!

We didn't stay here but we had to use the internet late one night because my husband had to get a job application in while on vaca. Our B&B send us to Daan's and he was so helpful and friendly, he opened up the internet cafe just for us and didn't try to boot us out right away. I didn't see the rooms but what we saw was clean and secure!

Nothing that we say will do justice to the service received from Ian and staff at Daan's place. On the 9th of January my son and his girlfriend booked into a lodge in Graskop. Due to various factors the accomodation was totally unsuitable for the two 20 year old's and at 9 pm we had no choice but to find alternate accommodation for them. Thankfully the first number we came across was for Daan's Place. Ian was incredibly helpful regarding finding space for them at the last second, going so far as to suggest meeting the youngsters halfway to ensure that they didn't get lost (this at close to 10 pm), and then allowing them to book in without worrying about any payment being made until the following morning. As they'd had to forfeit their deposit on the previous accomodation they were forced to cut their holiday short by two days. Ian was so kind as to offer them a free night's stay to make up for their unpleasant experience. The rooms were fabulous - spotlessly clean and very comfortable, the breakfast was great, with the dvds and wifi being an added bonus! They wanted for absolutely nothing. All in all it was the kind of service that far exceeded anything we could have asked for. To Ian and all at Daan's Place thank you once again for your kindness, concern and generosity - we would not hesitate to highly recommend your establishment in the future. Five stars plus!

Daan is an extremely nice host who will gladly help you with planning your route and advising you about the nearby attractions. The rooms are very neat and cosy. The most comfortable and spacious bed I had in a long time while traveling and most needed after the long drive from Joburg. There is an internet cafe and safe parking within the premises. AND really good coffee to help you getting up and going :)
We really enjoyed staying at Daan's Place and I can only recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good starting point before setting out to see the scenic wonders of Mpumalanga such as God's Window, the spectacular Bourke's Luck Potholes as well as Lisbon Falls, Berlin Falls.
Thanks for helping us to perfect start to our trip!

We only stayed at Daan's place for one night but wish it could have been longer. It is superbly located for everything there is to around Blyde river canyon. We were greeted by Ian as we arrived late on a drizzly evening and made to feel so welcome. Shown a couple of rooms, we chose a fantastically comfortable room with soft duvet and loads of huge pillows, very welcome after a long drive. Daan's place is motel style with a secure gate so your hire car or motorbikes will be very safe. There is a small bar, laundry, plunge pool and BBQ area as well as kitchens in the well appointed rooms. The morning we left Ian spent time with us to plan our panoramic onward journey over a superb fresh coffee. We were kicking ourselves that we didn't book for longer, Daan's place is more than a stop off point. Best of all, it is really good value. We can't wait to come back!
