This Fort is unlike any other, the only one of its kind in Namibia, built in exactly the right spot to give our guests probably one of the best sunset views in the whole of Namibia. Overlooking the beautiful scarceness of the Etosha Pans, decorated only with its wild animals and hundreds of Camel Thorn trees that dot the landscape. Accommodation consists of twelve Bush Suites with fire places for the winter months and air coolers for the summer months. Each suite has an indoor and outdoor shower. The one and only Fort Suite is situated inside the Main Tower of the main complex. It has a large beautifully designed bedroom that leads into a lounge area and out onto a private viewing deck.

This is a luxury operation. We had a lovely welcome from Given who was informative, helpful and friendly. The public areas are unique, built in a moorish style, you could be in a Riad. Views to the rear are overlooking a water hole with constant toing and froing of different animals. We had the Sultan Suite, which was exceptional although not necessarily worth the extra cost. I had a massage which was both inexpensive and very good. We would happily stay here again and you should too.

We stayed 3 nights at The Fort. It was our first time in Etosha and we absolutely loved it. The hotel is located in a private reserve called Onguma. The rooms are spacious, very well decorated with an incredible bathroom. Plus, each bungalow has a big terrace with a breathtaking view on the savanna and on a small water hole from which dozens of animals drink water each day. In addition, rooms include complimentary amenities and laundry. We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner at the hotel and each meal was extraordinary. The menu for each meal changes every single day and offers a wide variety of dishes both local and western. The lunch wasn't included in our package but the price of it was fairly cheap compared to European restaurants. This was very appreciated. The staff were always smiling and were very helpful. Each night we had a special treat in our rooms waiting for us after dinner. We did 3 games, two in Etosha and one in Oguma. The guides were always doing their best to find animals and gave us a lot of explanations on the animals we saw. Both of the reserves are worth exploring and the landscape on both is different. This hotel is definitely the place to be if you come to Etosha and is worth its price. We absolutely loved our stay and left with wonderful memories.

This is one of the best hotels we have stayed at and completely true to its name meaning - 'The place you don't want to leave'. We stayed in the Sultan Suite for 3 nights which was like being on honeymoon in both size and feel with a direct view of the main waterhole from its own private balcony. The hotel staff are incredibly friendly and professional and the attention to detail was present in every aspect. When we returned to our room after dinner the candles had all been lit and when we departed we were given a small bottle of Namib sand to always remind us of the desert. The wine list is extensive and with premium SA wines included. The meals are delicious and varied with 4 course dinners. We didn't do any game drives as preferred to drive ourselves and the game viewing in Etosha is world class. Lots of sightings of large groups of elephant, giraffe, zebra and all the other antelope, not to mention beautiful birds and the highlight definitely seeing both black and white rhino - real privilege and so heartwarming to see their numbers increasing with all the amazing work being done in Etosha to protect these magical creatures. We will definitely be back so thank you to all the staff.

This lodge consists of a central building and a small number of individual private lodges with wonderful views. All architecture is inspired by a northern African kashba, modern, tasteful and spacious. It is outside Etosha National Park, the must visit here, reached after a 30-45 min drive. The welcome was however rather disappointing, as our requested suite wasn’t available, which we had to find out ourselves based on the alternative lodge offering. Very strange, as we had written confirmation and still needed to push. We were compensated for the lacking nights prior to our stay in the suite at our final night. Not a nice start of our stay with high expectations. The staff really made an effort, while the manager seemed more business than customer/hospitality oriented. Apart from the start, our stay was very enjoyable. The lodges are beautiful, luxurious and very private. The lodges have an open air shower and a fireplace (which the super spacious suite hasn’t). The food is very good: lovely made to order breakfast and very nice three course meals. Great animal views from the terrace during the meals due to the nearby, illuminated water hole. Also the guides were professional and nice, especially Liberty. Don’t miss the photo hide if you want to watch animals from nearby and/or like to take pictures. Also not to miss is the small roof terras on the 2nd floor of the central building, for a romantic private sundowner. Between the lodges and the central building transport is offered, as walking in this wild animal environment is not advisable. I would certainly recommend a stay at Onguma The Lodge, but make sure you get the lodging you got confirmed by your agency. It’s recommended to check your bill upon departure (ours contained too much, which was refunded after a complaint). The airport strip is only a 15-20 min drive away.

We singled the best 5 lodges in whole Namibia in 5 areas out and then made a route between them. This was the best of all stays we had. It is not only professional first class but personal as well while not being intrusive. They just felt genuine. Tip for making your stay the best. In safari areas the guide/tracker is most important. We did some reviews and one of the absolutely best guides is David. We requested him as our private guide 2 days and I recommend you ask to do the same at least one full day. Not only did he share his passion and it was the most true passion i ever seen going to different countries in africa for safaris. He had extensive knowledge and shared with us and helped half a dozen of younger guides during each day. Short example of his knowledge. The rhino we saw lying down. “The shade is not big enough. He will go up in 5 minutes or so.” The rhino did just that. “He will cross the plane and go down to the waterhole”. Exactly right which meant you got the best views before anyone else got to the crossing part. The vehicle the guide drove could be newer and less clattering, but we still saw all the animals closely. Bush dinner is a treat. Book in advance. Emma, who organizes, is very attentive to details and is so perceptive that what your likings and dislikes (without being explicit) is taking to account and organized about it. Super as a manager of the lodge and her quiet nature has a good influence on the rest of the staff. Not a show off to others (or customers) “i am managing” but quietly make things work. Liked that. Worked really well with the afministrative Petra. A big plus is the wine list which best i have seen in an African safari lodge and i only stay at the top in a country. The outside bathtubs can be heated and I requested it daily. Very nice. None of the other lodges had that. Improvement is booking part. The 3 day package part does not include guiding. If you choose full package per day it is better to book private guide per day and 3 day package. Also the booking office did not really understand what a private guide tour actually meant. Onguma is just what the word means dont want to leave or at least come back.

We stayed for 2 night the The Fort, which is Moroccan in design (not sure why). The rooms are huge and you have a large wrap round terrace with sunloungers and an outside shower overlooking the waterhole which has lots of visitors at all times of day. The food in the restaurant is excellent thought the lighting could be improved, had to keep turning my torch on to see what we were eating. We did the sundowner game drive the day we arrived and we greeted by a magnificent electrical storm - we were glad the safari vehicle had a supply of waterproof ponchos. The next day I did a morning and afternoon game drive in to Etosha with David, who was excellent and I saw loads of game. Might have been a better idea to have taken a packed lunch and stayed out all day?! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place as it is excellent and located just outside the Nanumtoni Gate.

Very unique and a wonderful place to stay. Because the rooms are in the nature reserve you have to be taken by golf cart to and from your room because of the possibility of meeting a lion. Some people may find this a bit of a chore. The staff are fantastic and nothing is too much trouble. We had a guide called Liberty and he was terrific and a lot of fun also. Food was good and well presented.

This was included in our Itinerary by our safari consultant from Secret Namibia, we were not planning on staying at Onguma, but he insisted that if we were able to spend a little extra that we should stay here instead. I am so grateful that we did! When we return to Namibia (hopefully soon) then we will be staying at Onguma for at least 2 nights longer than this time. The staff is friendly, the units are amazing and the wildlife downright spectacular. We initially thought that staying inside Etosha would be best, but there is no point in doing so, because you have to be in your camp at sunset anyway. Onguma is right on the edge of the National Park, so access into the park was quick and painless from Onguma.
