This is a nice place to stay and was reasonably priced. We only stayed one night because we were passing through but it was nice and quiet. The pool was very nice and we were the only ones in it that night. I enjoyed the peace and quiet. I would stay here again.
The Magnuson is incredibly outdated, but still a reasonable value. The parking lot is under construction, and the sign is difficult to identify due to branding issues inconsistent with its listings. Breakfast is weak/limited. Price was pretty high for the quality.
Great clean rooms and rates. Friendly staff, and lots to choose from nearby restaurants. Early breakfast bar to start your day. Nice quiet rooms to rest in after all day traveling. Plenty of parking for your vehicle. Nearby big supermarket right across the road if you need anything.
Magnuson Hotel is the most unprofessional , discriminatory, and illegal establishment I’ve ever slept at, I am appalled at the experience I’ve had here and hope that you truly understand how horrible the owners, managers, and employees are. I am begging you to please, spend your money somewhere else. Support a different business. During my experience, my fiancé and I kept asking ourselves “this cant be real life, theres just no way these things are happening to us”, but they did. To sum up what occurred, they unlawfully entered our hotel room while we were not there. We had a DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door, on top of that we let the front desk employee, Shane, know that we would be leaving the #__ room and coming back in 10 minutes to purchase it for another night. This was around 7:30-8:00AM...their check-out is at 11:00AM (keep that in mind). He says okay, we leave and come back LITERALLY 10 minutes later to the cleaning staff in our room. Our valuables including electronics, wallets, money, and everything else were dumped in front of the door in the hallway. 10 minutes. 10 minutes and they completely cleared our room per Shane’s instruction. Absolutely everything of ours was dumped into the hallway as if it were garbage. Shane proceeded to tell us that he mixed up our room with another room that had an incident involving Michigan State troopers and that he gave the State troopers our personal information and room number. I don’t understand how a mix up like this could happen besides negligence by the employee. We had to call state police to have that resolved, even though we had nothing to do with it (another inconvenience). We originally paid for Friday and Sunday night on Agoda and were promised the same rate when we got to the hotel the first night we arrived (prior to the incidents). Meaning, the hotel already had our money for Friday and Sunday. We were essentially stuck staying here or in our car for 3 days as it was Memorial Day weekend (everything is booked in the U.P) and we are 8 hours from home. We were then charged even more than what we originally paid the first night staying after the incident. We could not enjoy our vacation in fear of our things being taken or people randomly coming into our room without permission, therefore, we kept most of our things in the car, which is not the purpose of a hotel... Another employee attempted to help us get in contact with a manager. That was extremely difficult as is, but the employee also proceeded to show us text messages from her manager, Cindy, telling her to just “kick us out”, instead of rectifying the situation that we had nothing to do with. Another manager, Lisa, ended up coming down to the hotel to get “our side of the story”. Prior to this, the same employee stated that the management and owner were horrible and that they would definitely not being giving a refund for all that has happened, that was definitely true. After informing us that the incidents occurred because of my fiancé’s skin color, I was heartbroken. A front desk employee has the power to not only give out our personal information to the state police, but to also take all of our things. He stated that “he had every right to do that” because of how we look. My fiancé is a POC and is tall. Most employees acted like they’ve never seen a POC, or were scared. Even though we were simply minding our own business. After the employee told us and Lisa, the manager, they gave us hugs and proceeded to offer us cash for dinner, we denied and just simply asked for a refund. She agreed for a full refund for all nights and essentially a free night stay on Sunday. She did refund Saturday night, but proceeded to tell me that I would have to call Agoda for the rest of the refund but that she would be happy to, and that she is so sorry this happened. The next morning after feeling that this has been resolved, we were locked out of our room AGAIN by management before check out time, AGAIN, unable to grab my things. In the morning, Lisa attempted to reject the refund she originally promised. Agoda only needed a confirmation from her that it was okay to refund me my money, a simple approval after the excess list of inconveniences and invasion of privacy that occurred here. She refused. On top of that, she also attempted to give us a double bed room instead of the queen room we booked on Agoda for Sunday which is why she decided to lock us out of our rooms so she could take care of us and leave the office on her time. Again, more inconvenience, rudeness, and horrible customer service. I don’t know how this is legal or okay. I shouldn’t have to spend 60% of my time in a city on the phone with management, Agoda, and at the front desk talking to and attempting to get a refund. This is also 2021, my fiancé and I shouldn’t have to deal with racism or discrimination of any kind. We were extremely kind even throughout the incidents so am not sure why were still getting treated as WE were the ones inconveniencing THEM. You are supposed to feel welcomed when going into a hotel, that was not the case. We were scared to even go out of our rooms or that they would do something to our car. They also offer guests the custodial key which opens every door to every room because they have don’t want to fix their doors or key cards. Some employees at the front desk tell you to “go ahead and smoke in the rooms, just open the windows and turn the A/C to low”. Weird, and unprompted advice but okay, I can see why they would have that advice when both rooms we’ve been in smell like mildew and cigarettes. Your skin will itch either from the water or their bedsheets or who knows what else in their rooms. They also do not clean their rooms properly as i food wrappers from other guests in my room and blankets from previous guests. Keep your stuff in your cars if you stay here. Don’t believe their fake niceness, it is all an act and a tourist trap to take your money. You are paying for upscale hotel but are getting a one star hotel that had to rebrand to try and stay alive. I know this sounds ridiculous but this honestly happened and cant believe it did.…
We travel for work. We just left Bay City, Michigan yesterday after 4 1/2 months. We were on our way to Fargo and stopped. We asked for a downstairs king. I told the young lady we had a small service dog. She said dog room woul have two queens. I asked two times if it was by a exit she said yes. I asked if they had breakfast and she said grab and go. Registration took several minutes. I went outside. I moved my vehicle (have 2) down by the far entrance. When my fiance came around, he handed me key for a second floor room. She told him there was nothing downstairs. There were only two other cars there. When he questioned it again, she said down stairs needed to be cleaned. Never said it before we paid. I went up and the room was not near stairs or exit. I asked to be moved and was told only had 1 different dog room which would not have made a difference. The rooms are overpriced. Very small bathroom. Went downstairs in the morning for coffee and grab n go. Nothing. Was told to use coffee in room. No bottle water either. It was 8am and no bag. Why they can serve coffee and bag breakfast in Bay City and not here🤔 Was given untrue information at check in. …
