Wonderful! We don't know what rooms on the parking lot side are like, but our room with a balcony overlooking the bay was absolutely lovely! We were pleasantly surprised at how nicely decorated the rooms and halls were, stylish furniture, nice laminate flooring, faux decorative ceiling, beautiful enlarged photos of local and regional scenes on the walls with accent lighting. The view and the breeze from the balcony was sweet. We took advantage of the free use of the kayaks and a couple of staff showed up to help us get the paddles and life jackets; kayaking through the reeds with the ducks and great blue herons was really refreshing. It's obvious the owners are still working on updating the hotel. The exterior is not nearly as nice as the interior and it was a challenge to find the main entrance and lobby, but the staff t the desk assured us a new sign is in the works. It was a little on the pricey side (though it was a summer weekend). But it may be the nicest hotel in the area.…
Everything was great and met our expectations! We loved the coffee shop. View from room and balcony was outstanding!!!!!!! Only one suggestion - maybe the front desk/email reminder can inform guests that Gladstone is right on the time change. We planned on eating at the hotel restaurant, but when we got there it had just closed. Ultimately it is our responsibility to check for time changes, but since gladstone is right next to the time change, it may be confusing for some out-of-towners. Thanks! We would love to return and stay again.
My family has been coming to the Terrace Bay for decades. I am so please to see new life that the owners have breathed into it. The rooms are very comfortable and decorated so well. The sunrises are always beautiful. The staff is always cheery and willing to be of help. The Terrace Bay is much better than staying at a typical hotel!
The Terrace Bay is absolutely a "motel" and not a hotel or resort or whatever they are trying to pass this property off as. While I've become used to 'not so great' properties in the UP, this one especially upset me. Booked this place as out-of-towners b/c we were attending a wedding held at the property. While we were aware that we were booking an 'un-renovated' suite, we surely did not expect it to be as bad as it was. We were able to park directly in front of our room door (again, b/c it is a MOTEL) and 1/2 the time the door key scanner would not work so we'd have to trek to the main door to get in the other way. The disgusting brown carpet that was probably 25 years old was dirty and stained and SO GROSS, we made sure never to walk around barefoot. There was a smell that never really went away. The walls were so dirty, with God knows what. The shower was full of mold at the top, had nowhere to store any of your bathing items while you were showering, except on the floor. The water pressure was non-existent. The water was also well water and therefore undrinkable. Beds were not so comfortable but not completely awful. The lighting in the bedroom was terrible, dim and yellow. The hallway from inside the building was super creepy and walking through it alone made me really uncomfortable. All in all it was really a depressing room, and I'm so thankful that we were busy enough during our stay that we didn't have to spend a lot of time in it. I have no problem staying in a not-so-nice room, as long as I am paying accordingly for said room. We paid $386 for a 2-night stay (not even on a weekend) when this room was worth no more than $70/night. SO disappointing. We only interacted with staff during check in/out and both people were wonderful.…
I booked my room through a second party (booking.com) in the beginning of March 2022 for a trip over Memorial Weekend. I received a call from Stephanie a couple days before check in wanting to know if they could upgrade our room. I informed her that no, we've stayed in that room before and liked it hence why we booked it (wanted a room overlooking the bay). She said ok and see you soon. Two days later we go to check in and are informed that the room was double booked and that for the inconvenience they were willing to comp a free meal at the restaurant. Now as frustrating as a double booking can be, I can understand how it can happen. What I'm extremely upset about is that when I was called there was no mention of a double booking nor that we wouldn't be getting the room we booked. They did let us cancel the booking and the poor girl at check in was very sweet, but with that being said we will never stay at this establishment again. I can't even say that I would recommend calling the Hotel to confirm, because look how that turned out for me. I just say skip it all together and find one down the road.…
It was a beautiful room with an amazing view. Location was quiet but not far from the highway. Coffee shop in the hotel was ferric as well. Had a minor shower issue in our room but we were able to move rooms once we made staff aware. Staff was incredibly courteous and helpful throughout our stay.
Stayed 6 nights and really enjoyed it. It is a super convenient location in town. The hotel is going through a great updated look and the restaurant and coffee shop are good. The restaurant is pricy but the food was absolutely delicious. The coffee shop as well was a great place to run down each morning and get delicious coffee and breakfast muffin/bagel sandwiches. The staff were all super polite and helpful. We would definitely return!
dirty, no hot water, and not what I booked in April. They woouldn't give us a senior discount, and the desk help would not help with problems. They need to get safety bars in their showers. It was our 30th anniversary and this didn't make it a good memory.
We checked in and was told that we were on the old side. They had a room on the new size but it didn’t have its own room for the bedroom so we said no. As we went to our room I knew it might be a problem plus it had a smell. My husband said he liked having a bed in its own room since he goes to bed earlier. Well that was a mistake. The couch n chair was so low to the ground it was hard to get up. But it was nice the room had two bar stools and bar you could eat at. They have a restaurant in with the hotel plus where you check in is a coffee shop called Bigby. They had a nice size jacuzzi in the bedroom. I was going to try it until I saw the stain in the tub probably from hard water. In the morning I went to take a shower and there was a smell so it was a very fast shower. The bed was comfortable but again there was some smell in the room. Now for the reason not to go to room 208. At 1130 they decided to vacuum. Then at 6am the staff of the coffee shop showed up for work. Our room is right next to it. They don’t know how to have a quiet conversation. The clerk when we checked out was nice enough to offer us coffee for free. Can say I dealt with two different staff members of the hotel n they were friendly.…
