Good points:
Hotel allowed us to check in early.
Indoors looks fresher/maintained better than outdoors.
Room looked clean and at least partially updated.
Linens seemed fine.
We are on the second floor in the back and the room seemed quiet.
Close to shopping and many nearby food choices.
Bad points:
We had to pay $50 for 2 hours of swimming because the pool is only open from 4 to 8pm and it is not free to guests. Try to tell your children that have been good all day that they can't swim. We felt like we were held hostage.
We paid for our autistic child to swim and she hardly swam because you can't wear pool shoes in the pool--she doesn't like the feel of the concrete, etc-- and was crying because the life guard kept yelling at her to remove her shoes. At first she didn't understand him and then after we figured out what he was saying, she didn't understand why she couldn't wear her water shoes, neither did we.
But you can, apparently run on the wet pool deck at full speed, without a life guard ever stopping you. And larger preteens ran by my table all night. That was so relaxing.
Each day you stay you have to repay for swimming. I am checking out tommorrow (it's cheaper to stay at a way more expensive hotel than to stay here and pay for the pool each afternoon). I would have rather had a free outdoor pool than the 3 slides and splash pad they consider a water park.
No place to exersize swim, the deepest part of the pool is 4'.
The life guard at this moment is wearing black jeans, work boots, has keys and lanyards hooked to his baggy pants, a Polo and walks around without his lifeguard float. The person at the front wrist band check in table at the pool entrance has on red swim shorts and was laughing heartily at his you tube video with ear buds. He did remove them to answer our food/drink question. Good thing no one needed saving.
You can't bring any outside food or drinks in the pool except from the hotel grill. Since the hotel food is similar to a friendly's we elected to eat out and missed half of the swim time. Most of all the food is junk, greasy burgers and fried foods. Kids meals are $8.00. Another table had food and we just decided to pass.
Ran out of towels at the pool.
Room is very small. Hardly any room to walk around the bed. Our four pieces of luggage literally filled the room.
The outside of the hotel is run down and tired. The parking lot is weedy.
Back security door is broken and does not even close, not to mention lock.
Not sure if there are any elevators, haven't found one yet for guests.
We asked for an extra room key envelope so that we would have a written room number with the 2nd key card for our older kids and myself so we don't forget or transpose the number, and apparently you can only have one paper sleeve per hotel room. I didn't realize that paper sleeves were an expensive commodity.
Room air conditioner was not working very well. We have it set at high and 62 degrees. Hope that works.
Hotel is set on a divided highway which you can only turn into from one direction. No back entrances. At commuting hour expect to travel out of your way and wait for a turn around. Larger SUV'S will find the turn pretty tight.
Overall--------
If you need a cheap room for less than $120 a night then stay here. This hotel is fine for a bed. Grab any dinner you need and park yourself in your room for the night. Fine.
If you plan on staying for a few days, have children or want to travel in and around the area....might want to look somewhere else.
---another tip. Find your room first and then unload your luggage. The door they tell you to go to may not be the closest.
We are dissapointed by this hotel. Will skip this hotel for next quarters business trip. And this is the off season.
My daughter chooses to travel to a water park to celebrate her birthday. We traveled 6 hours to be near family prep school & choose the Clarion aqua lagoon hotel. She has two friends with her to enjoy. We arrive late. The rooms are small but tidy. The next morning the front desk informs that the park is closed during the weekdays. Huge let down! The websites do not advertise this very important detail. So sad because it was a toss up between here and the great wolf lodge. We go to breakfast and are seated with direct view of the closed pool and water slides. Then the front desk tells us the arcade is closed as well. DO NOT GET FOOLED & disappoint your children. Signs in properly indicate it's $20 per swimmer to use water slides and $10 per adult just to sit and watch your children. Staff seemed embarrassed by my questions. Sorry I work in the hotel industry and this is such false advertising especially on the Expedia site. Never again!
First, when I made my reservation (30+ days in advance), I contacted the hotel and inquired about the state of the room due to some of the negative reviews online. I was informed I would be placed in the "new" section of the hotel. When I checked in, I was told the new section was under-maintained. Also, the pool is only open on the weekend (Friday to Sunday). However, the hotel did not post it, nor was I informed during the reservation process. I was given the keys to both of my rooms. We proceeded to our rooms. The hotel hallways are dark (poor lighting) and filthy. The walls are dirty. All the side entrances were full of garbage and dirty. The first room stunk of cigarettes and possibly marijuana. I had to be moved to another room without the nasty smell. However, both of our room AC units look like a safety hazard. The AC units were nasty. My family woke up after two hours due to a persistent cough and did not fall sleep after. We did not have another choice but to stay because, due to college graduations in the area, the rest of the hotels were full.
I submitted a complaint and was credit points to the account—NO response from management. Do not stay here.
