Travellers' Choice
Beautiful pub/inn/restaurant in Stoke Row, in the heart of the South Oxfordshire countryside in the Chiltern Hills. Elegant, chic design gives a warm, inviting feeling and the overall ethos of The Cherry Tree is one of comfort, enjoyment and relaxation. Food is key here with bi monthly menu changes of seasonal produce. Well kept beers, fantastic wines and great champagnes make this a place for a weekend away with a loved one, catch up with friends or equally happy catering for corporate groups. Likewise, it is a wonderful local pub in a beautiful Oxfordshire village. Four en-suite letting rooms in the barn are fresh, crisp, elegant and clean and most comfortable. Overall, a wonderful experience and not to be missed if in this part of the country. There is a definite air of class about this place and the London set flock to it in droves for a great country fix.

We booked this establishment as it was advertised as ‘Henley on thames’ that was the first misleading mistake we made, it’s actually’Henley’ Stoke row which is a few miles from nowhere. The establishment is a pub with purpose built accommodation which is like a hut with a bedroom and bathroom. The outside is overgrown to both the pub and accommodation the windows to the hut are so small that you get no day Iight due to the foliage plus the windows are dirty. On entering our room it seemed like we had interrupted the service team as they had left their cleaning products, not emptied the bins and the bed was half made. We ordered our breakfast for the following day which was to be held in the pub, the ceiling looked like it was falling through, the windows again dirty, cobwebs in the room. We were asked if we were there for 2 nights which we said yes to which they replied “good I don’t have to service your room to which we replied it wasn’t serviced yesterday! Their response was oh! It was a young one, not like us old ones, the owner then said we are dog friendly but didn’t think the dog was so hairy! Onto breakfast presentation was good but poached eggs hard and bacon very well done, we were then informed if we left our key as they only have 1 key to our room they would give us a complimentary service! This we did our return and taking off our shoes walking on the carpet my socks were covered in dog hair, we then found out that whilst we were away they’d locked the key in the room and the proprietor had to climb in through the window! All in all they have a lovely place and with a bit of TLC and designated rooms for dogs it would be much better and stop advertising your Henley on Thames when they are not!

Another fabulous meal at the Cherry tree, service exceptional and food, as ever, the highest of standards. It is difficult to find a reason to go elsewhere frankly. Menu great, varied and updated constantly so never a boring choice. All grown on site.

Four of us stayed here last night in two rooms. The rooms were superb, beds were comfortable and bathrooms were great. We all had a meal, the ladies had ribs, my brother had the curry and I had the ham, egg & chips. The food was lovely although we all thought the curry was a small portion. Breakfast was absolutely first class. Big thanks to Dan the Landlord, his partner and in particular, to Becky, always happy to help and super friendly..

We a local. We visited late August. There were 4 of us and we sat inside. The beer was good. Prosecco served from a previously opened bottle was flat and had to be replaced. Order taken by a lovely young lady... good start. Food arrived and was not piping hot. BAD. 'Fried' Cod loin was not worth £18. All the four dishes were poorly presented. Eton Mess, what a joke! £8 for a shallow champagne glass with cream and a few tiny bits of fruit with a chunk of meringue on the side! other than taking our order the service was non existent. No one checked after serving the meals to see if we were happy. No one came to check if we wanted more drinks... we ended up having to go to the bar ourselves. no one came to clear the table after the meal so we had to call the waitress to order desert... It took so long for the bill to be presented that we eventually got up and paid on our way out. The sunflowers in the garden looked like they get more attention than the guests. We will not be going back there again.

Just had a meal here this evening. I had the fish and chips. The fish smelt of amonia and was off!!!!! I sent this back. No apology at all from the chef etc. The other dishes served to our party of 4 was small and not good. The Eton mess was well what can I say but awful. The servers are all young and uninterested. So sadly disappointed!!!!!!!! I would definitely like to speak to the manager. As they were otherwise engaged as I asked to speak to them !!!!!
