Good for walkers
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
We had a wonderful stay at the Edgewater Inn. We arrived on a Wed and checked out on a Saturday. The beach is at the end of the building/parking lot. It’s directly next to Joseph’s by the Sea which is an upscale restaurant with delicious food.
The manager was really nice and thoughtful. The lady in the office is a sweetheart. She had lots of information regarding local things to do from light house tours to water parks and local eateries.
We were on the second floor which we liked. There is a nice deck with chairs you can relax in on the second floor. The pool is a great option as well. The room was cute and clean. There is a small fridge and microwave in the room.
The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is the floors could have used a wash. We noticed our feet were dirty after walking around the room barefoot. I’d probably bring a small dust pan and hand broom next time as the sand was carried in and with covid they are only cleaning rooms every third day.
It’s a great location as it’s just far enough away from all the downtown action but, still very walkable. Pirates Cove is also very close by as well as lots of restaurants.
We woke up early to see the sunrise just outside the hotel on the beach. It was a great way to start the day!
We would definitely stay there again!

We were pleasantly surprised at this motel. The staff was wonderful from the time of booking to our departure. The room was very clean. The location is great as there is a short boardwalk to the beach and the section of the beach that guests used is much less crowded than the public sections. Easy to spread out. The pool was heated and clean. There is a deck on top of the office where guests can sit outside and relax. Because of COVID, there is only housekeeping every three days and only 10 people in the pool at a time (30 mins) but that didn't seem to be an issue. The only thing that was tough for us is that we were in a first floor room that faced the beach. No place to hang towels. Bring a drying rack with you. There were no shelves or drawers in our bathroom so we had to get creative. Overall, would definitely stay there again.

Highly recommend, rooms are clean, and staff is friendly. Well worth the money. Just make sure that your room has screens that are not ripped, and windows that are cleaned for a better view of the ocean , since you are paying for that view. We stayed in the room that is ocean front many times but this year there were a few bumps. Still worth the money

I guess I am going against the crowd here. Please don’t get me wrong it wasn’t a BAD place, and very true, if I were judging by the outside looks of places nearby, I might even agree this could be the best place BUT…. As for clean, as we were unpacking my GF dropped some water on the floor, grabbed a napkin to wipe it up and the napkin turned BLACK! (Clearly swept but not CLEANED) We then noticed on the pillow (the show pillow, not the one you typically put head on) there was a big stain that looked like blood, I didn’t want to find out just put the pillow in the corner and ignored. The Bathroom was not much better…. The check in/out service was nothing but “Ok” no complaints but nothing friendly just “Name, sign here” type thing. Again, nothing to complain about but certainly nothing to say it was great. I liked the location right next door to one of my favorite restaurants Joseph’s with good access to beach and about a 5-10 minute walk to the heart of nightlife/pier etc. Despite the mediocre review, if the price is right I would stay here again but I would certainly be looking at other options before I do. PS one last thing, they didn't have any "king" beds the two beds we got were TINY... I mean I know this depends on the room you get but seriously we could barley fit in the bed!

I am rating 5 stars due to staff and cleanliness of the room. The grounds were beautiful but outdoor cleaning started promptly at 6am with sweeping. The walls seem a little thin as you can hear a lot from your neighbors. Rooms were bright and airy but there were no blackout curtains. My husband works midnights and had a difficult time sleeping his usual hours which has not been a problem anywhere else. Since it was our first time here, we had no idea of how noisy a room near the front office and sundeck could be. There was a rowdy group with small children on the sundeck one night of our stay and they were at it until after 10. Had we known fhese things we would have requested a different room, away from the office and sundeck. We made the best of our stay. The price was reasonable for a property within steps of the beach. We would probably stay again but make certain requests with a room closer to the beach with what we learned during this visit.

Our family of 10 stayed here in June 2022 for two nights as part of a week-long trip to Maine. Our family ranged in ages from 6 to 78 years old. Sean at the front desk was very helpful when we checked in. Rooms were clean and well-decorated. Unfortunately it rained while we were there, but the beach was beautiful. We appreciated the free cancellation policy, even though we didn't need it, and we also thought that it was cool that the same family has owned the motel for 60 years.

The place was nice, clean room, good bed and great location nice people. Get a room away from the stairs, ours was right at the top of the stairs and hear people walking up and talking( loudly) then stand in front of the room and talk loud. Was there 3 nights and woken up 2, third night I had ear plugs. Toilet did not work well as a former chief engineer in a hotel I fixed it, very easy. All in all good place, stay away from the stairs.

We are staying at this hotel and while the staff is friendly and helpful, the walls and flooring are paper thin. It’s 1:00 am and I cannot fall asleep hearing the neighbors upstairs... the air conditioning doesn’t work well, very noise and not cold. Also as we arrived we noticed the floor of the room hadn’t been cleaned. The staff took care of it but during Covid they should be even more careful with cleanliness

This is a 2-part review. First, the hotel. The room was perfect. Clean, comfortable beds, and the view from the balcony can't be beat. Walk out of the parking lot and you're on the beach!
Second, we had no idea that everything would be closed in Old Orchard Beach in September. We were new to the NE coast and on a road trip. You literally can't find food in town after 9 p.m. and we only found one restaurant open before 9 a.m. Keep that in mind when booking your fall trip!

Very unhappy with the visit this past summer. I sent much of this review to the management after our stay, but they never bothered to respond:
". . . I understand that COVID has affected service delivery but your service is far below what has been provided in the past. We have mainly stayed at the Edgewater each summer for the past 25 years. The emblem is missing from the street sign, the room was dirty when we arrived, with hair all over the place. the bathroom fan was never repaired after I asked twice, every one of the rocking chairs on the top deck are broken in multiple places and patched together with odd hardware (such as a hinge) and no room service for a three night stay. We were very disappointed and will likely be staying at the Beechwood next year.
