Driving down the valley on the 3km gravel road towards the accommodation we didn't know what to expect. When we go to reception the most beautiful scenery awaited us. What a stunning location. The accommodation in the Kroonarend chalet had everything we needed. We went hiking to the mountain pool to cool off. The hike through indigenous forrest felt like a fairy world. And the mountain pool was exactly what we needed. There are 7 hiking trails to choose from. We also took a drive on the 18km 4x4 track. Here you see beautiful fynbos and breathtaking views. The camp site also has lush green lawns, a swim dam and swings etc. for the kids. Loved our time here. Wildlife and especially birds are abundant... Will definitely be back

This is a beautiful working farm, a real retreat from the hustle and bustle. The accommodation is lovely, it was everything we required. Upon arrival we took a hike up to the waterfall, really stunning. The quiet and the scenery is wonderful . Japie and Dorie are warm and hospitable hosts. We were on our way from Cape Town to Addo Elephant park and this was a welcome stop after the day in the car. We think one night was not enough, but we wish to return if we do a similar journey again.

Although we didn’t stay in the accommodation, we asked them to help with some hikings around and we ended up doing the Oppi-Koppi trail combining the Waterfall trail, hearing and seeing wildlife such as baboons. Their guidance was key and excellent, including Fritz’s. We also forgot our drinking water but they manager to mark a plan for us. Excellent people and hosts. Without a doubt, a home outside your home, where they will make you feel safe, and ensure you have fun. Super welcoming also for foreigners like myself, and always assisting with a smile. It is clear that they like what they do, and sharing in one of their stengths. Don’t miss the chance to be helped by these nice community, you won’t regret it. Superb for respectful guests that are willing to go with their families, couples and friends.

We visit Bergrivier very often. This place has become our second home. Tannie Dorie and Oom Japie are such hospitable hosts. We are always welcomed with such nice greetings and open arms. The campsite itself is always well maintained. The hiking routes are definitely something that we always make use of. If you are nature loving and want a break away from the busy city life, then Bergrivier is the place to be

Thanks to Japie and Dorie for their helpfulness from start to finish. Relaxation and peacefulness at its best. Listen to the birds and view how many species their are. Any questions I asked were answered timeously.

Bergrivier offers affordable accommodation in the heart of a breath-taking part of South Africa. We had a most wonderful stay in a comfortable rondavel on the hill, with beautiful views over die valley and mountains covered by natural fynbos. The accommodation is simple but completely sufficient to meet all our needs and expectations, blending into the natural surroundings. The silence, peace and solitude enveloped us and filled our hearts and minds. On the lovely hiking trail to the waterfall I could photograph many species of graceful dragonflies and delicate damselflies and butterflies that thrive along the river in the kloof. The friendly host and hostess welcomed us and made us feel completely at home. Thank you, Japie and Dorie!
