After a drive from Durban we stayed at the main lodge which sleeps 10 and we all had a fantastic time, the lodge is laid out well and there are enough showers and ablution facilities. The staff were friendly and helpful. The beach and river were great places to fish, swim and canoe and we also rented a boat to fish on the river which was excellent. We hired a fishing guide each day and he was helpful with both traces and baits. We really enjoyed out stay and the time out was like no other. Recommend this lodge!

We had a fantastic time at Nqabara, lots to do from walking for miles on the prestine beach, swimming, fishing and canoeing in the unspoilt estuary and hunting clivia in the forest.
Communing with nature at its finest.
Highly recommend the delicous fresh bread baked daily (order a day in advance).
Every evening was rounded off with a braai on our cottage deck, drinking sundowners and soaking up the stunning view.
Well worth the drive, we will definitely be back!

It's always great to travel along the Wild Coastline, and finding another wonderful overnight stop is fantastic. Roughly halfway between The Haven and Kob Inn is Nqabara Eco River Lodge. A wonderful location above the estuary and overlooking the mouth of the river, you will find this warm and wonderful sanctuary. Next time we plan to spend more time there exploring the 8 km of estuary, the mangroves and the bird life.

Overall, we were disappointed with the experience, and actually left 3 days earlier than we should have. It's a good hour and 45mins from the nearest "town". Once you are at the lodge, there is absolutely nothing there, and nothing at all to do other than go to the beach. There are no accessible walks even to do from the lodge. The beach is extremely difficult to access. You have to negotiate a very steep, and in our case, muddy, path to get down to beach level. You have to make sure you only go to, and return from, the beach at low tide, as you have to traverse a lagoon to access the beach itself. Even walking between the cabins at the lodge is very difficult, with no paths, and a very steep gradient. It would be absolutely unsuitable for anyone with any physical impairment, or the very young or elderly. The cabin itself is shoddy, and is in need of repair and maintenance. Cleanliness is questionable at best. All the knobs had fallen off the stove, the cane "couches"were mouldy, the foam mattress in the main bedroom wasn't acceptable. We had no luck with fishing, and the canoes weighed a ton, and were an exercise to even get on and off the river.. Overall, we felt it was a lot of money being asked for a very substandard experience

Perhaps we went with overly high expectations of the fishing and the "beaching". The beach is quite a long way off and at high tide can only be reached by wading chest deep through the Nqabarana river ! Fly fishing the main river without a boat or the experience of a guide is fairly hopeless. Paddle skis are all very well but have their complications [strong tidal flows, where to beach them on an incoming tide, managing gear whilst paddling etc]. We didn't expect the fishing to be quite so boat dependent. The cottages could do with some maintenance, eg stove plates malfunction, temperamental hot water geyser, doors which don't close on the latch. It would have been nice to arrive to a cold fridge with ice.
Those are the disappointments. The staff were great. Pleasant and very helpful. And of it goes without saying that the location and view are stunning.

After decades of making regular sojourns to the wild coast, this place definitely remains one of my favorites..... the accommodation is clean and comfortable with magnificent views. Pristine estuaries, unspoilt beaches and astounding birdlife makes Nqabara for me, heaven on earth and the only goog thing about about leaving, is that it is that much sooner to when it is that time to return. Thank you to all the staff for always making our stay so special, can't wait to get back.

We loved our stay at Nqabara eco lodge so much that we had to extend it. Excellent service from all, beautiful views, unspoilt beaches and birds everywhere! The chalet was breezy with huge windows opening up to the ocean, there was plenty of solar power to charge our devices and it was fully stocked with everything we needed to cook delicious meals and braai on the balcony. Massive thanks to Pierre who was there to offer advice on activities with a friendly smile and his fantastic company. And to Tim for organising our stay. We have wowed to return!

Couldn’t have asked for a more idyllic location to unwind. The resident guide and manager, Pierre was always ready to assist and advise, whilst the local staff were equally friendly and helpful. The fishing was a bit off - managed to land 1 decent grunted, but the pure natural beauty of the place made up for it. If I had to make 1 suggestion it would be to improve the path down to the beach. We will most certainly return one fine day

A beautiful un-spoilt piece of African beauty. Comfortable clean accommodation with awesome views. Fishing in the surf, rivers and estuary is good and bird life is fantastic. Excellent service given by the Lodge manager James. We will definitely be back

We had been planning this trip for two years. Which is always dangerous, as one tends to create unrealistic expectations over time, but I have to say, our stay at Nqabara was as great as we wished it to be.

Tim thanks for our early communications and assisting us with choosing the right time of year and tides etc. for our fishing trip.

Matt you are one outstanding host, manager, chef and fishing guide.
We hardly touched our snacks we brought up, we definitely all put on a few kilo’s, the food was superb and more than enough for us four 6 foot + guys, hungry from fishing.
You more than looked after our every need and were an absolute pleasure to spend time with fishing. Between organising the boats, bait, re-fuelling, meals etc. you still managed to spend time with us, and were always upbeat and eager to get us onto fish. I don’t know when you slept !

Tim, you’ve got one of a kind in Matt, you better look after him.

Thanks again guys, all the best with the future of Nqabara !
