On our garden route tour we spent a few really interesting hours at farmer redbeard's place. He served us coffee, home-made biscuits and after visiting his beehives we tasted his unique honey on freshly baked bread. We learnt a lot about these fascinating insects and can only recommend to stop there. As Farmer Redbeard grows wine (and apricots and peaches...) as well, he can also tell you a lot about these issues. So - if you have some time left, don't miss it!

On arriving at Farmer Redbeard we were a little worried when we saw the wooden cottage, until it was opened and we could go in.... someone had gone to a lot of effort to create a cozy love nest close to the rugged mountain. A huge firm bed, hot shower and every utensil you may need at your finger tips, it was all we wanted to end our delightful Cape road trip. I would recommend this place to anyone who is willing to sit in silence and watch the mountain turn from pitch black to glowing gold at sunrise. Thank you for a blissful two days.

We were welcomed by Farmer Redbeard :) The cottage is so cute, most comfortable bed that we slept on, with electric blankets to keep you extra toastie. Small but fantastic kitchen that has everything you need (maybe a small milk would be good for tea & coffee in the morning), as well as bathroom, indoor fireplace. We sat under the stars both evenings on our patio with wood supplied by the farm. No mobile phone reception which was a real holiday for us. The farm is pet friendly which is great. Albertuis and his wife Pat took us on a tracker ride around the farm and hearing all the history is amazing. We really really enjoyed our stay at the farm and would be back in a flash. Great wine farms and activities to do around the area as well. Thank you for a great weekend away :)

All guests gets into a wooden crate behind the tractor, sitting on a bench with cushions. You go up and up into the mountain. You stop at one of the farm dams and enjoy a social gathering with good wines and tasty home made snacks. Farmer Redbeard share some back group information about the wines and the wine making process on the farm. He also share some family secrets and history of the district before sun set. This experience only cost R100! Its worth it!

Staying at Farmer Redbeard for three nights was supposed to close out our remarkable holiday with a bang...and it did. My wife told me about this place hundred times and I eventually agreed to stay there. We stayed at the house where the owners lived before and it was spacious, very clean and quiet. Whatever you need for a self-catering holiday you will find it there. One day we went with Farmer Redbeard to harvest figs and from Mrs Farmer Redbeard we did learn how to preserve them as well as to how to bake your own bread. We had so much fun and will be definitely back when its wine harvest season. The last night Farmer Redbeard took us up the mountain into the wood to the red bus and we had a nice braai... Well done Mr and Mrs Farmer Redbeard. Your place is so very unique and special; we did enjoy every single minute. All the best and take care
