This is a good property and the owners are very helpful. The bedrooms are excellent and suited for 12 people, although the living accommodation of two rooms is tight and we could have done with more for our party of 8 people and 3 dogs. The dining table in the lounge area takes 8 people and the kitchen table takes less. It is near Tentsmuir Forest which is great, but (as warned) our dogs came back with ticks every time. The beach at St Andrews is lovely and on a Sunday you can also walk the Old Course with your dogs which is a highlight for any golfer. We were disappointed by the garden, as the only enclosed area was down the side of the house accessed by going out through the front door and past the owners’ section. Though having an excellent large BBQ, the area is small. The owners live in the section to the right of the property and along the back of the house, so they have the use of the back garden and the only other outside area is the front garden which is not enclosed. It lies on a busy road without a gate and is also open for dogs to roam onto the neighbour’s plot, so only useful for well-behaved dogs and children. Internet access was unreliable. Parking is fine for three cars which is what we had, although it meant that any visitors to the owners would invariably park outside our living space which was intrusive. I wasn’t used to an induction hob and the pans I had brought for cooking didn’t fit the hobs. The baking dishes supplied were small and limited, not suitable for a large party cooking. However the oven is a good size. Both the microwave and fridge are very small, I put as much as I could in the freezer. I had Sainsbury’s deliveries while there, they arrived promptly. A nice coffee machine with pods was supplied, that was much appreciated. As to cleanliness, it was generally spotless apart from the fridge and the microwave door, which I had to clean before use, everything else was fine.

We stayed here for 6 nights while we explored the area. This beautiful Country House is in a lovely quiet setting and is very clean and comfortable. Relaxing gardens with a patio seating area and plenty of parking. We had a spacious, well furnished room with a comfortable bed where we slept well. Karen and Tom are excellent hosts and they were very helpful in guiding us to good restaurants and suggesting places to visit. The breakfasts were top quality. To ensure social distancing they have limited the number of rooms in use and breakfasts are timed to limit the number of guests in the dining room. Highly recommended!!

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. I am glad you both enjoyed your stay and managed to see sights that you hadn't seen before. We are trying our best to do the right thing for ourselves and our guests with regards to Covid so have put some very simple procedures in place that seem to have been appreciated by our guests. I hope your journey home was enjoyable and we look forward to welcoming you back very soon. Kind regards, Karen & Tom.

Pinewood was the perfect home from home for our group of 8 golfers enjoying several days of golf in the St Andrews area. Karen and Tom were fantastic hosts and the hospitality and accommodations were wonderful. The accommodations are very comfortable and the terrific breakfast got us all up and running each day. Very strongly recommend!!!

In January 2015, I booked a superior king room through Karen for 1 night on June 13,2015. We exchanged emails about the area and our arrival times. On May 16th, I reconfirmed with Karen and recieved her response confirming our reservation.

Today, I was told that Karen double booked the room and was cancelling our reservation. This is 10 days before our stay. If this is true, she is incompetent, but I really think she was able to book the two day weekend and wanted money.

Anviously reservation means nothing.

Dear Sir. I find your review most upsetting. As explained to you in my email sometimes double bookings occur and I had managed to find you alternative accommodation nearby which you chose not to accept. Unfortunately a difficult choice had to be made to try and help all parties concerned and I have already apologised for my error. I take offence to the fact that you think I only did this to make more money when in fact you were unaware of any of the details behind it. As also explained in my email to you this is not the way I run my business, letting people down at the last minute. It was a genuine error on my part.

We were a party of seven staying for one night only. We were warmly welcomed by Leslie and Lesley and shown to our rooms. The rooms were lovely and provided with all the usual necessities. We were then offered coffee or tea and it was quickly served with some cake. They had booked a meal for us at a local hostelry and when we realised we were going to be a little late they phoned down and sorted things out for us.

Breakfast the next day was excellent with a choice of a full Scottish breakfast, eggs in any shape or form, vegetarian or continental.

We all agreed that we had been very lucky to have
found 'The Pinewood Country House' as the stay from beginning to end had been very enjoyable.

My son and I spent 5 nights at Pinewood Houe as part of a golf vacation. Pinewood is located about 7 miles from St Andrews in the very small hamlet of St. Michaels. The grounds are very well kept and the house is pretty but not remarkable. Karen, the proprietor, is very gracious and warm. Her attention to detail and willingness to please make Pinewood worth visiting. We stayed in Room three on the second floor. It was clean, well furnished with 10' ceilings but not particularly large when a second bed is added. The bathroom was large, clean, with a very satisfying shower.

Karen's breakfasts were far more than you would expect in such a modest place. There was a wide variety on the menu plus Karen was willing to customize to each particular palate. Her husband was also very helpful as one day we needed to travel 50 miles with no clear directions on how to get there. He not only gave us excellent directions but loaned us his atlas which gave us extra comfort. It also allowed us to take n alternate route back.

If quiet, clean, safe and friendly are what you are looking for Pinewood house will not disappoint. It is great value if this is what you want.

This is a beautiful house that has the potential to be a great B&B. It is in a quiet location while being easily accessible and close to St Andrews or Dundee. However, to be met with a welcome pack that is a list of rules and regualtions as to what is not permitted (capitals and bold) is not a good start. Adding that to the notice of up to 4% surcharge on credit card payments and a list detailing 'one only' choice of breakfast items made one feel there was a throw-back to boarding school rules. It may have been summer but it was Scottish summer, so no heating in cold bedrooms .....not acceptable. The proprietor was friendly and helpful. If needed, the prices could had been increased by a little to cover the above restrictions. Then it would have made for somewhere that had the feeling of good hospitality rather than bean counting control. In all, it was fine but we wouldn't return.

I'm sorry that not all aspects of your stay were enjoyable but thank you for the positive comments. May I take a moment to address your comments. Our welcome pack is meant as a guideline and advice on local services and is in no means meant to be taken as 'house rules'. I'm sorry but I don't know where you read that our credit card surcharge was 4%, all my literature indicates 2.5%. I'm so sorry you found the bedroom cold in June, we do supply oil filled radiators in all the bedrooms to supplement the heating that is on intermittently during the day. We pride ourselves in supplying organic and locally bought produce and in no way do I feel that I 'bean count' when supplying breakfast or the quality of goods I supply for my welcome trays. I'm sorry you feel you may not want to return to Pinewood but can assure you that your comments have been taken on board and used constructively.

A very warm welcome by Karen, unfortunately the warmth was in the hostess but not in the rooms. Been a long time since we've had to sleep with clothes on but this was it.
Appreciate no guests for some time before us so perhaps the heating in the guest accommodation had not been checked recently, as Karen said heating had been on since 10am and the house was not very warm, this being 4pm. The situation did not improve overnight or in the morning, all rooms were very cold including en suites. Radiators had no heat at all. Trying to warm up at 5am with a cup of coffee only to discover milk in bedroom was rancid. These comments were offered to Karen at breakfast and were met with " I will get my handyman to check this at the week-end" , and she will check all the trays in the rooms, so let us hope next guests fare better than we did. On a positive note coffee in guest lounge most welcome, breakfast choice very good.

Thank you for your positive feedback on some aspects of your visit. I am sorry that your trip was not as comfortable as I had hoped. I have taken action to address some of your comments which I hope you will be happy with. The radiator in the bathroom has been bled and is working fully now. I have had a plumber look at the less efficient radiators in the house with a view to upgrading them. With regards to the milk, after looking on the box in my store cupboard I find that the milk was not out of date until January 2012. I have however thrown away all the cartons from that batch and replaced them with newly purchased milk. I will keep an eye on this issue in the future. It is tough to receive a low trip advisor score after having so many excellent reviews but it serves to keep me on my toes and am happy to take your comments on board

Karen and Tom made our stay at their B&B a very special experience. They joined us in their lounge in the evening for snacks and drinks and very enjoyable conversation. They truly treated us as quest in their home.

We had two nights here. Karen, the owner was friendly and welcoming and very kindly upgraded us to a double room at no extra cost even though we had only been able to book a twin room online. The room was a good size and very comfortable, with large en suite bathroom. The bathroom was a bit chilly as the heating was off and unfortunately the weather had turned colder. However, we did have a portable heater in our bedroom if we had wanted it. Karen was helpful in suggesting local restaurants. Our breakfast was very good but a little more choice of cereal might have been good. The only "downside" to this is that it is not clear from the pictures online just how close the hotel is to a road, which though it wasn't very noisy overnight, we did hear large lorries going past and traffic generally. Wax ear plugs sorted the problem though.

Hi Nina. I could offer you our family room which has a double and two single beds at £150 per room per night and either a double or a twin bedded room which is £90 per room per night. As this is a holiday weekend there would be a 3 night minimum stay which would suit yourselves. Please get back to me if you would like to reserve the rooms or have any other questions.
