What lovely people warm-hearted and went out of their way to help us they make everything special wherever they can I would recommend them anytime. We had a lovely time and a pleasant stay. The staff friendly unprofessional they cleaned the rooms every day it is self-catering and it felt like everyone was like family it almost felt like home I will go there anytime again

We only stayed here for one night, on our trip to Mozambique. It was perfect for our needs, clean, comfortable, safe, enough parking, easy to book, easy to get there, well equipped, not expensive and most of all, very close to the border. Our only disappointment was that the website where we booked mentioned a restaurant and it was closed. We would have liked to know that in advance because we arrived hungry and there was nothing in town besides KFC or Steers.

Some renovations have been done since our last stay which shows the owners are making an effort to keep the place in good condition. It was comfortable and we will definitely stay there again. It would be nice to get the restaurant open again though.

We as family make use of Maputaland Lodge as overnight accommodation on a regular basis on our holiday trips to Ponta Da Oura. We can highly recommend this lodge for overnight, excellent lodge to stay. Friendly management and staff. We look forward to see you again in the future.

We booked two rooms for one night on route to Mozambique. In the one room the kettle was broken, the outside light bulb was blown along with the inside bathroom light. We also enquired about breakfast where we were assured that it was served from 7h00 in the morning and we even looked at the menu only to find the following day that the dining room was closed and our breakfast arrangement disregarded.

Do not stay here when passing through to Ponta do Ouro, it is expensive and not worth your while.

We were very irritated and disappointed.

Rooms are clean, neat, fully equipped & comfortable. Kitchens are well laid out with fridge, freezer, microwave, mini stove top & oven, sink, kettle, toaster, crockery, cutlery & glassware (allowing for self catering). Bathrooms are a bit small but functional (shower, basin, toilet). Bedroom has airconditioning, ceiling fan, DSTV (the TV is quite far from the bed & the screen quite small), mosquito net & loads of storage space for suitcases & clothing. The mattress on the bed has a plastic waterproof cover which makes a lot of noise every time you move in bed. The towels are a little threadbare, & some small bottles of body cream, body wash, shampoo, shower cap etc would be nice. The onsite restaurant serves breakfast, lunch & dinner (there's also a bar area). Unfortunately the restaurant isn't air conditioned, so it's not very pleasant in summer with the humidity. The restaurant staff are very accommodating, as you can place your order with them & have it delivered to your room. Just be sure to place your orders well in advance as the restaurant runs at a rather leisurely pace. They will also prepare packed breakfasts & lunches. Their menu is quite varied, but the hamburgers (cheese burger, mushroom sauce & chips) & toasted sandwiches (bacon & cheese, chicken mayo) seem to be the best offerings. The pizza was very cheesy & greasy, the ribs were very fatty & the salad quite basic (iceberg lettuce, cucumber, tomato). There is a pool near the restaurant but it always looks green & not very inviting. Each room has a small verandah area with seating which is comfortable in cooler months. I've always enjoyed my stays: the rooms have most of the comforts & necessities of home, staff are friendly & the lodge has good security (complete with 24 hour guard).

Room Tip: Rooms at top (like 4 & 10) are more spacious, but driveway gate is noisy.

As the saying goes you get what you see, but in this case the web pics are definiately not what you get and not what you wll see.
My family and I booked for 7 nights at Maputaland Lodge.
On arrival we where to say the least, disappointed.
The maintanance of the " lodge" leaves a lot to be desired.
As another traveller remarked on this site, the pool was far from inviting, the restuarant, if thats what you could call it, was like something out of the 70's, the Bar was dingy and the service hatch to the bar from the restuarant was open not allowing one to have a quite dinner without having to listen to the shannangans of the bar as well as bar staff. On trying to eat at the restuarant on the 3 rd evening the noise from the bar was such that we where forcing to request that the food be brought to our room rather.
I understand that management can do very little about unruly residents/guests however after 3 nights my family and I chose to forfeit monies paid up front for the next 4 nights and rather seek other accomadation.
Thankfully we found accomadation at Kosi Bay Casitas closer to the Kosi Mouth where thankfully the hospitality and experience made up for the previous disastorous events.

The reception was lukewarm and the room was not yet ready when I booked in but I was early. The room has everything needed to stay comfortable and is well equipped for self catering. A nice touch was the mosquito mat provided. In terms of what is available in the area this is definitely one of the better options. I will suggest self catering(buy in Hluhluwe on the way as Kosi Bay is congested most of the time) The restaurant is not the best - basic no aircon and food not restaurant quality. Oh ..... and the pool was not something I would dip my feet in.
