A forgotten land found far away from the big city lights, where we could connect back to the peace of nature. The Farmstead is ensconced between the mountains and water of Franschhoek. A carefully curated cultivation of self-catering child friendly lux-cottages. Farm stay luxury with six cottages; two four bedroom cottages and four two bedroom cottages. All rooms with their own bathrooms and each cottage with an outside bathroom. Secure, quiet and peaceful with mountain and farm views to come back to nature while exploring the winelands. Recently added a riverside deck for sunsets and picnics by the river. We are an off grid eco-farm, we are powered by solar electricity, and gas heating, so we are not affected by load-shedding, we have a large battery bank and ample power storage however we still ask our clients to be conscious of our system.

This lovely property is perfectly located in the Franschhoek valley, to explore all the local wine regions. It is beautifully designed with sensitivity and respect to nature- recycled timbers, solar heating, natural stone, saltwater pool, herb gardens, sun loungers made from old packing crates, stunning inside and outside bathrooms, a yoga studio and a riverside deck for lazing and sundowners. Each cottage has an outside verandah and a small inside and outside fireplace. There is a lovely long walk you can do. Staff are delightful. You drive over a stone bridge covered with a flowing stream to access the property which felt quite adventurous. It is very secure. Criticisms- there are actually 5 cottages and 2 large family villas which isn’t clear from the website where it looks like there are only 2 options, so can be quite busy. The sound insulation between the cottages isn’t great. There is also limited information in the accommodation about what time they lock the gate to the river and a mobile number to call if any issues. Apart from that, highly recommend a self-catering stay here. A special place.

My daughter made used of The Farmstead in Franschoek. Apparently everything was suberb. They even left fresh eggs, fresh homemade bread and Kombucha complimentary, which was greatly appreciated. Everything was clean. The only negative was the showers that were running over when showering. They used towels to dry the floors and no new towels were provided. Otherwise everything else was perfect!! Thanks very much!!

A really nice to place to chill out with friends or family. Super quiet and tranquil. The house itself is smaller than imagined but has everything you need and the beds are so comfortable. Outdoor bathroom is a nice touch. Lovely fire pit and firewood left to enjoy some smores. Difficult to get taxi/uber to and from this location so ask the host well in advance to ensure she can arrange pick up for you.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Farmstead, and really enjoyed the river views and nature around. The eco farm is well located, and quite close to the departure station for the Franschoek Wine Tram, an easy way to visit the surrounding vineyards.
However, perhaps the only donwnside to our visit was that we had a misadventure with a broken glass and were invoiced 80 ZAR (approx 4€). A glass which by the way we broke while cleaning it...
Charging for a broken glass seems a bit excessive considering the price of the accommodation (marketed as luxury accommodation). Given that none of the glasses even matched, the suggestion to simply replace the glass would have been appreciated (rather than an exorbitant invoice).

I feel there is more wrong than right with The Farmstead. Unfortunately it’s difficult to get to and the Uber drivers refused to drive through the river. Not great if you have weekend celebrations where Ubers are needed. Bathroom blind is totally see through at night so zero privacy if people are sitting outside. If people are inside, the bathroom wall does not go all the way to the ceiling so people can hear everything! Main bedroom mattress sits on wooden pallets which stick out. We knocked our shins repeatedly on the corners. While the outside bathroom is fun it’s also very impractical. What if the weather is not good, that bathroom becomes redundant. The wooden fence around the outside bathroom has big gaps and I felt that people walking past can see in. The pool needs some attention as the water was very murky. In the smaller cottages there is no place to sit comfortably for 4 people. The living area is tiny. There is the outside table but once again, what if the weather was not great? The main bedroom has a ceiling fan but this was too noisy to keep on at night. The 2nd bedroom has no fan at all so in mid summer it must hell in that room. They charge nearly R1000 per person per night which I feel is expensive for what they are offering. There are definitely better options in Franschoek for the same price.

We loved every minute of our stay at the Farmstead. The accommodation is fabulous - gorgeous linen, comfy beds, wonderful bathrooms, simple and tasteful decor and well equipped kitchen, we didn't want for a thing. Such super welcoming touches too - freshly baked bread, fresh farm eggs, rusks, tea, coffee, milk and freshly picked flowers everywhere. The peaceful views and fluffy chickens are an added bonus! Blessing, the manager, lives up to his name in every respect ... I could go on forever and long to return soon.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Farmstead. The surroundings are beautiful and the amenities are fantastic, making for a fun-filled family getaway. In particular we enjoyed sundowners and a dip at the river. The location makes exploring Franschhoek very accessible. Visiting in summer meant that the absence of fans in the two smaller rooms (of the 4 bedroom unit) made for some uncomfortable evenings.

My family and I visited The Farmstead for a much needed retreat after a long year! The fully equipped villas offered everything we needed - family-friendly luxury accommodation with the peace and quiet that one would expect only to find in the foothills of France, never mind Franschhoek, a mere 45 minutes outside of Cape Town! While the area boasts many nearby attractions, we found ourselves staying put, enjoying early morning runs and bicycle rides on the property, followed by refreshing dips in the river, with sweeping views of majestic Simonsberg. We opted for long lazy lunches on the patio with the resident cows and Drakenstein Mountains as a backdrop, but one could just as easily meander into town to experience some of the world-class fine dining establishments. We had two tots in the party, aged 2 and 5, who found much joy running around the lawns and playing with the chickens. I would recommend this to both couples looking for a base to enjoy the many outdoor activities available in the area, as well as families looking for a relaxed holiday.

We had a house with 4 bedrooms, two indoor and two outdoor bathrooms, a beautiful terrace and full kitchen equipment. The houses are stylishly and rustically furnished. On arrival there was fresh, delicious bread, farm eggs and butter. The staff even did the dishes and asked in the evening before they left if there was anything missing. A fireplace with firewood was available and a wonderful playground for our little ones was right behind the house. There is also a pool on site. What wasn't ideal was that there were a huge number of flies that we didn't want to get rid of with the insecticide provided. Fly screens on the windows would have been helpful here. The location between Franschhoek and Stellenbosch is central. On the way there you have to cross two rivers, which was not a problem at the time we were there.

We were blown away as soon as we arrived. The cottage was gorgeous and had everything you needed. The Mountain View’s were stunning and we loved sitting outside in the peace and quiet. It was a really nice touch having fresh bread and butter on arrival and we loved the outside shower and bath. A highlight of our trip was visiting the vineyards nearby on the tram and bus. We only stayed 2 nights but wish we stayed longer as it was the best accommodation of our trip and Franschhoek is beautiful. I would highly recommend staying and can’t wait to be back!
