Our family of five stayed on one of the gorgeous self-catering cottages on the Vrede en Lust estate in January 2020. It totally exceeded our expectations in every way. The cottage was beautifully presented and spotlessly clean. Thoughtful touches greeted us such as cold milk in the fridge, tea. coffee and a few odds and ends required for our first night's stay. The beds were large and unbelievably comfortable and we slept like babies after our marathon 20 hour flight! The views from the living area were just incredible over he vineyards and to the mountains beyond. What makes this property stand apart from others though is the amazing staff and the warmth with which you are greeted, be it by the waitresses in the restaurant or the staff in the wine tasting areas. Lynne, who manages the cottages, went above and beyond the call of duty in terms of answering all our questions and linking us up with various service providers such as the horse trail company in Paarl who incidentally provide amazing horse riding experiences in the valley. Lynne even dropped by specifically to welcome us to the estate as she had not around on the day we checked in. For a family with children aged 11 and 13, Vrede en Lust was absolutely perfect -the pool provides a pleasant place to cool down after various activities, be it sightseeing in Franschoek or mountain biking on the estate and the amazing options to make one's own pizza or one's own sandwich drew a huge thumbs up from us all! We have every intention to return and hopefully very soon!

What hospitable staff. From the events /food planned for the Friday evening, right through pre-drinks the Saturday afternoon, the set up for the wedding ceremony the Saturday afternoon, through to the reception, the decor, the food. Too much to mention. Everything was professionally done. The food was well prepared, presented and was excellent. The decor, the staff were there, without being obtrusive, yet always available to assist with a smile. The wide selection of what was on offer for breakfast also deserves a 15/10. Well done, will definitely recommend the venue. The tranquility of the surrounding just added to an atmosphere of peace. A huge thank you.

Wonderful, relaxing place for both adults and kids: nice pool, good bistro, large rooms, comfortable beds and playground. Few minutes driving into Franschhoek with its pretty galleries and cafes. Franschhoek has many beautiful guesthouses, hotels, wine estates, but this one was particularly beautiful and we enjoyed the happy, relaxed vibe at this place.

We booked the full Vrede en Lust estate for our wedding in January.
Having planned the full wedding from the UK much could have gone wrong.
Instead, it turned out to be the most magical three days of our lives.
The estate with the mountains in the background looks like a fairytale setting, photos don't make it justice.
The staff went over and beyond to make sure we had the most pleasant time, from making sure we had all we needed for the wedding to recommending nearby restaurants and making bookings in the days after. The accommodation was impeccable - from the beautiful interior and exterior, the exotic garden, to cleanliness, the gorgeous swimming pool, the friendly bar staff and everything we needed being kindly accommodated by the amazing staff Lynne and Paula at reception. The breakfast was delicious. Special kudos to our fantastic wedding coordinator Marne Brewis as well who made sure we could fully relax on our wedding day.
Vrede en Lust will always have a special place in our hearts and we cannot wait to one day return.

Really good selection of wines to try. Nice to do the lindt chocolate and wine pairing. Restaurant does great food and the buildings are light, airy and relaxing in the heat. Waiter Simon very helpful and friendly, lovely to chat to someone so pleasant.

The wine farm at Vrede en Lust is gorgeous with a large indoor and outdoor tasting facility. The grounds are well maintained and offers lots of nice seating areas. In addition, the on site restaurant, Lust, offers a great place for lunch while visiting the farm. The one major drawback is the crowd and noise. Both the wine train and tram stop at the property, therefore, it gets busy. It was hard to even enjoy our experience with all the noise and commotion.

To any prospecting couple looking to get married at Vrede En Lust...You absolutely HAVE to! The team at VNL exceeded every single expectation we could have ever had.

The service was the best service I have ever experienced at a restaurant or hotel, let alone at a wedding with 125 guests! And they maintained this unbelievable service across all 3 days.

The waiters and waitresses went above and beyond for each and every guest and 50+ guests commented to us how unbelievable the staff were. Particularly Vee, Cedrick and Ed! They were exceptional and we are blown away by them and the entire team!

The food was also absolutely incredible - so many people said that it was the best wedding food they have ever had and couldn't get over how delicious the ravioli was and how perfectly cooked all of the steaks were. Several people said that their favourite meal of their entire 2 week holiday in Cape Town, was our wedding food!

Having postponed our wedding twice due to the pandemic, we had extremely high hopes and dreams of what our day would FINALLY end up being...and the Vrede En Lust team, surpassed it in every single way. They run such a slick operation and had thought of everything. They were so accommodating and polite and never made us feel like any ask was an inconvenience or not possible.

Thank you so much to the Vrede En Lust team - we feel incredibly lucky and grateful to all of you!

Do NOT book this location. They have had issues through out this year and have chosen not to refund guests when they double book dates

We confirmed our wedding date back in 2020, in 2021 found out they double booked and we had to change location last minute. They have now refused to refund our deposit.

Responded 15 Nov 2021
Dear Chinedu, We're sorry to hear that your wedding day didn't materialise as you had hoped. This is important to us, as we are in the business of making dreams come true on such a special day. With this vision in mind, I take your comments against our service very seriously and need to outline how the team went above and beyond to do everything in our power to support your wedding. This even extended to us taking a financial loss and providing a refund that was not contractually obligated. Your wedding planner never confirmed the date change with us, even after multiple follow-ups - we have the full email trail should you wish to see it. Please take the matter up with your wedding planner. Kind Regards, Jess Buys Hospitality Manager

We booked the whole venue for our wedding and we love love loved it. All our guests, family and friends stayed at the place and enjoyed it very much. For ZA this is a relatively expensive place, but worth every Rand. The staff, the rooms and the food are just excellent! We can't wait to come back!

I visited for a wedding in February 2022. The venue was incredible - beautiful setting, amazing food and wine, the guest rooms are absolutely gorgeous. The manor house is huge and comfortable with lots of antique touches. We were also blown away by the service - every single person working here is was attentive, professional, and a real asset. Genuinely, it was faultless.

I wanted to leave a review even though I hardly ever do, because I think the recent reviews are unfair and a result of the recent pandemic situation, rather than a reflection on the venue.
