Hotel's Favourite
We first fell in love with Komandoo in 2019 and we try to return every year. We even had our honeymoon here.
Komandoo really is our ‘happy place’ and there are 4 main reasons for this: The staff, the wildlife, the food, the Island and its facilities.
Staff:
You literally couldn’t meet a friendlier, more attentive group of people. You are welcomed off the seaplane by a song and a dance and from that moment are made to feel like royalty throughout your whole vacation.
Nothing is ever too much trouble. Nobody ever stops smiling.
It would take forever to mention everyone that works here but a few people deserve some words:
Solah: The Chief Operations Manager. An absolute legend and now one of my best friends. Solah was my original snorkel buddy and we’ve been great friends ever since. Meeting for drinks at the Thundi Bar or London, he never fails to make me smile. I love our monthly WhatsApp calls and our messages about FPL and football (I won’t mention the rubbish team he supports!).
Navaz: The General Manager, a true gentleman. He treated us so kindly when we visited this year. Always happy to go for an early morning snorkel with me and he showed incredible generosity when he lent me his go pro after mine broke (I love taking underwater footage so being without a go pro would have been devastating.) Having dinner ‘in the jungle’ with Navaz was a real highlight this year and we really appreciated his friendship.
Aslam: Head of Food and Beverages, another wonderful person who really looked after us. He was my main diving buddy this year. Always accompanying me on my morning snorkels and displaying remarkable diving skills whilst spotting some incredible marine life.
Madhah: A smiling face always. So friendly, so courteous and always helpful. A true professional
Riza: Our Waiter and friend. Another absolute legend who we both adore. I don’t think the King gets treated as well as Riza treats us. He always knew what we wanted and food and drink would arrive without us even having to ask for it.
Munish: On reception. What a guy. What fun. We loved spending time with him, he always made us laugh and nothing was ever too much trouble for him.
Moosa: Our cleaner. Impeccable service always. The room was always spotless. He always knew the right time to clean when we were at the restaurants. He kept our mini bar fully stocked and was always friendly and helpful.
There are many others I could mention too:
The beach cleaners: keeping Komandoo immaculate.
The bar staff: Never letting me have an empty glass. (Thundi Bar at sunset is my favourite place in the world!)
The other waiters: Always polite, friendly and hard working.
The chefs: the food here is simply stunning.
The other reception staff: always friendly, always welcoming, always helpful.
Sofraj in IT who tried so very hard to fix my go pro.
The gardeners: Keeping the trees, bushes, flowers and vegetables immaculate.
The Dive Centre staff: thanks for the loan of the fins, the information on the local sea life and for trying to save my go pro.
The Spa staff: They are Mrs Collman’s favourite people and the Island Spa is definitely her ‘favourite place.’
The staff on the boats and the seaplanes: without them we would even get here!
I won’t write out a long account about how beautiful the island is, how delicious the food is (live cooking, tandoori oven, chilli naan!!), how amazing the facilities are and how stunning the wildlife is.
Hopefully the photos I attach to this post demonstrate their magnificence far better than my words would.
Are we coming back next year?
Of course we are.
We will book our villa as soon as we leave.
I cannot recommend a holiday destination more highly than I can Komandoo.
Komandoo, we love you. X

This was our second visit to Komandoo and it was even better than the first. The Champions (staff) are fantastic and can't do enough to make your stay an absolute pleasure. From the man who sweeps broken coral from the beach and the ladies who sweep the paths, to the chefs and restaurant staff, the bar staff and reception staff, there is nothing too much for them to do to ensure your stay is a pleasure. Our room operative couldn't do enough to make sure we had all the comfort we needed and the towel-animals and and bed-art virtually every day required serious skill.
Komandoo has a natural feel, with enough luxury and service for a perfect holiday, but without the opulence and pandering that would be over the top.
Our jacuzzi beach villa is more than comfortable with all that we could want and it's fantastic having the outside bathroom where you can see the foliage and wildlife in complete privacy. The beach all round the island is lovely sand and the snorkelling is fantastic, with so many fish, turtles, sharks and rays to see and even more than when we were here 3 years ago. The corals are growing back as well, so there was much more to admire and wonder at on our second visit.
The food is fantastic in the buffet restaurant, with so much choice, and the a la carte Aqua Restaurant is an absolute pleasure to dine at.
With your fitness needs catered for via the gym and classes with an instructor, and the brilliant Duniye Spa, where I've had the best massages ever on both visits, there was always something to keep us entertained.
We will be going back as soon as we can, for the peace, quiet, relaxation and the special atmosphere that the Champions help create.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
This was our sixth visit to the Maldives and first to Komandoo arriving in mid-March three days after the travel ban was implemented.
On arrival at Male you have use of the Komandoo lounge with air conditioning, comfy seats and complimentary drinks. After a 40 min sea plane journey you arrive at the Island and are checked in with a homemade ice cream and a drink.
We stayed in a beach bungalow with allocated sun loungers only a few steps from the lagoon. The accommodation was great with a very well stocked mini-bar including wine, crisps and chocolate along with the usual soft drinks all included in the AI package. There is also a TV with a load of satellite channels should you ever wish to stay in and watch it. The room was always cleaned to a high standard and little treats such as chocolates or biscuits left in the evening turn down which was a nice little touch.
The food in the buffet restaurant was outstanding. There seemed to be slightly less dishes prepared than other Islands but what there was was well thought out and cooked superbly. It seemed to be quality over quantity. Chef Ricardo's home made pasta was some of the best I have had anywhere and all the food was delicious.
One of the main reasons we come back to the Maldives is the snorkelling. The house reef here was great and there was an abundance of the "bigs" sharks, turtles, eagle rays etc. There were huge numbers of fish and we were even lucky enough to have Manta's on the house reef on one of the days.
What really sets Komandoo apart was the guys who worked on the resort known as champions. The manager Mo Solah really leads from the front and he was always around for a chat checking to make sure you were ok and if there was anything you needed and if you did he would move heaven and earth to try and get it for you!. The champions professionalism, kindness and cheerfulness really shines through and made what was a really stressful and worrying time as we weren't sure we were getting home a lot easier. There is nowhere I would have rather been than at Komandoo during that time as I know that Mo and the champions would have done their utmost to make sure we would be OK and there is no greater praise I can give them!

This was our 5th time to this stunning island and we always knew that any extra effort to get there, during these unprecedented times, would be worth it. The "Covid" measures in place did not in anyway affect our perfect stay. The new, extensive Al a carte menu brings a new and just as enjoyable experience to the restaurant with a full table service by the attentive champions. The simple daily temperature check when entering the restaurant, convenient sanitizer stations along with the champions wearing masks allayed any apprehension we had towards Covid. The main asset Komandoo has is its team of champions they honestly add a uniqueness to the island that has to be experienced. Despite the current climate being very difficult for them at the moment, they remain professional, courteous, accommodating and so much more. I really hope Crown & Champa are looking after them and give them the recognition they all deserve.
See you soon!

We have just had our first visit to the Maldives and are so thrilled we picked the beautiful island of Komandoo. From the moment we travelled from the seaplane by speedboat to the jetty we were welcomed with such warmth by the general manager Solah. The drums and welcome song, towels and cool drink in reception was followed by a quick tour of the island and we were shown to our lovely water villa. It really was a home for the next 2 weeks and Ibrahim our room Champion looked after everything we needed and kept it all spotless.
As an adults only island and with so many beautiful spots to sit by the pristine sea on the white sand it is truly relaxing and romantic spot. All the Champions were open and friendly and happy to share information on anything from snorkelling to the beautiful plants and trees. We thoroughly enjoyed a behind the scenes tour to see how it all works so well.
My husband absolutely loved his scuba dives with prodivers and they are very safe and well organised with a huge number of good dive sites to visit. For me it was the easy and safe snorkelling on the house reef which made my trip so special - turtles, sharks, glorious fish and regrowing coral.
I had several trips to the Spa for wonderful massages from the lovely ladies there. It has to be one of the most charming and peaceful spas I have been to.
The main restaurant is superb with a wide and delicious choice of food for all meals and the dining room Champions are the best! Ricardo the head chef and his team are top professionals. We also had 2 super meals at the a la carte restaurant Aqua over the water and both were delightful.
Finally a big thank you to all the Champions for sharing this beautiful island with us. Particular thanks to all in reception (no we honestly didn’t want to leave!), Suraj at the beach bar who looked after us every morning with constant soft drinks, mocktails and milk shakes, Ali in the restaurant, the gardeners and beach cleaners who keep it immaculate and indeed every Champion who never failed to greet us with a smile.
This island is honestly a most special place and we fully understand why so many visitors were on their second, third, fourth etc visit to Komandoo. Once you’ve found it why go anywhere else?!
We are already planning our next visit!

For December, we were on the sheltered side of the island in a beach villa (no jacuzzi) which was great as usual. Beach spotless as with all years - slightly less wildlife in the water this time of year and the broken sea protection needs to be repaired with wire netting to get more of the turtles back. Accommodation was again perfect and the addition of full blackout blinds helped the sleep cycle. Food excellent as always and back on the diet now we are back again. Staff as helpful as usual (Nadha, Ali, Ibrahim and Riza) and the weather was great from when we arrived to when we left.
See you all again in 2020 hopefully

Oh my oh my! What an island and not to mention all the Champions, with Mr Solah as Manager, that made our stay even greater! Just coming home from Komandoo (and Kuredu) celebrating our 25th anniversary. Komandoo is really paradise, its almost hard to describe with words, you need to experience it. White sandy beach, clear crystal blue water with fantastic sea life, so bring your equipment, or hire on Komandoo, so you can say hello to the fab world under the water. We stayed in a fantastic and big Jacuzzi water villa, next time we will stay in beach bungalow that really looks fantastic too. We were most surprised over the very good service and all the good food that was served, have never eaten so much in my life! So, if you are adults and really want to have a calm, warn, nice, friendly stay in the Maldives this is the place! We will be back for sure, soon we hope! A special thank you to the best waiter Shilaam, Mr Solah, Shifzna and Saeed who everyday surprised us with his fab art on the bed. Ps! Leave your shoes at home, you will not need them at Komandoo. Because if you need them you are overdressed:-). Ds. All the best Bessie & Kaj in villa EGR 02

As a ‘marine’ enthusiast, the abundance and variety of life on the house reef surrounding the resort within easy reach has been pure joy on a daily basis. Reef Sharks, turtles, sand rays, and almost every indian ocean reef fish were seen almost daily and was enjoyable discovering a new part of the reef daily.
The fishing trips, night and big game were fruitful and the best part is, the fishing grounds are so close. We saw manta rays on both our snorkling trips swimming alongside them which was a first for myself.
The accomodation is what you expect, but it was refreshing to have warm, powerful fresh water showers multiple times a day.
The food was of a high standard, tasty and a good selection for all tastes but what made the meals special was the excellent personalised service by Ammar who by day 3 knew how each of us liked our tea and type at different meal times , our breakfast habits and nothing was too much. This hospitality was extended by ‘Salim’ who organised our trips, small requests and was so flexible, it was as if the trips were personalised for your wants. We planned day by day depending on the weather and our level of tiredness. This care also extended to housekeeping and ‘Ahmed’ made sure almost every small request was delivered be it a scent we liked, extra towels to even installing a towel rack to keep our beach towels separate from shower ones.
I feel this warmth and hospitality extends from the boss. Solah was always around checking we were catered for and his unique sense of humour and friendly approach made us look forward to him and by the end of the holiday i even forgot he was the general manager and left as friends.
Thankyou to everyone who made our trip so special.

The island that keeps on giving 🏝
We felt very safe on the island, it was clean and lots of hand sanitizers and temperature screening.
This was our 3rd visit to the island and would recommend it . Service was 5star all of the staff on the island are very polite and nothing is too much trouble.

A difficult review as we had an amazing holiday but with plenty of room for improvement.
Loved the house reef have to say it’s one of the best we have seen shame about the sea defences being so badly damaged this is not a new thing and needs repairing.
We stayed on the sunrise side loved our room and the breeze to keep us cool plenty of turtles swimming by on a morning sea choppy this time of year but didn’t bother us.
Eating in the main restaurant 3 times a day became a bit repetitive food was good most days with the odd day very challenging. Have to say Alex the chef was amazing and made sure my special diet was catered for.
We had one meal in Aqua wasn’t impressed and had a several dine around meals which made a nice change but you do have to pay for them.
Christmas and New Year gala dinners are stunning and we enjoyed the entertainment . The DJ played some strange tunes at times but may be that’s our age but my 21 year old daughter even commented on it.
So we get to the part that most people will disagree.
Most of the staff are very good but I have to say the reception is run by a group of kids very unprofessional haven’t a clue what’s going on and on one occasion very rude shouting at us saying we where late when it was them who had changed the time to meet and hadn’t informed us.
Our allocated host needs some serious training or in my opinion sacking and was a total waste of time again didn’t know anything didn’t try and find out and was seen around the island usually on his mobile phone.
I emailed the dive centre before we arrived regarding my daughters diving.
I wasn’t told that if she didn’t have a nitric oxide certificate she wouldn’t be able to do the two tank morning dives and would just have to dive on the afternoon as they didn’t have enough staff and they had to please the masses. After a lot of fuss she did end up doing two morning dives in our eleven night stay but this situation needs to be addressed.
I do know the manager was away from the island during our stay through no fault of his own it was clear to see .I am sure things are run differently when he is around.
We did meet the assistant manager for 2 minutes when we first arrived and seen him again on New Year’s Eve think he was in hiding the rest of the time very friendly but maybe a bit out of his depth.

The seaplane transfer is included with Tui
If you are on all inclusive plus or all inclusive gold your mini bar is included for all villas.
You get 4 cans of beer and a wine fridge containing 1 bottle of red, white and rose. Anything consumed will be replenished the following day. If you wish to take any cocktails etc to your room you can either provide your own plastic glass or they will give you the drink in a plastic cup. No glassware can be taken from the restaurant or bars. You have an assortment of glasses in your villa that you can decant into.
It doesn’t matter which side of the island you choose. Sunset, sunrise or water villa are all wonderful. On the sunset side you do indeed have a view of the local island but that does certainly not detract from the experience and in my enhances it. Sunset side has a larger expanse of sand and the snorkelling is probably better but that all depends on weather. As for the benefits of a jacuzzi, that is debatable and is certainly not a preference of mine.
We stayed in an overwater villa where you can step down into the water straight from your decking. The beach villas are on the beach so there is sand between the beach villas and the sea.
