Ordered butternut squash risotto and may as well have had rice pudding! Couldn’t taste anything but cream. Restaurant was cold and no atmosphere. Staff were friendly and helpful although when I complained I wasn’t offered any compensation even though I’d left most of it. Won’t be returning unfortunately.

Group of six Friday 3rd December to Monday 6th on B and B with evening meal on the 4th. Check in was fine and stayed in rooms to the rear of the main building, room fine but the bed was so high that you had a step ladder to get into bed. Tea and coffee making good and delicious selection of biscuits, no separate shower cubicle so you had to step into the bath to shower, getting on in years I find this a challenge in itself! The six of us ate a local Italian restaurant on the Friday evening which I can highly recommend, arrived back at the Devonshire Arms at 10pm, the bar had closed and the eating area set up for breakfast we drank our night cap in our bedroom. The pub does not have a lounge where you can sit and relax and have a drink. Breakfast was acceptable but service was very slow, the six of us ate in a side room which was cold and draughty. We spent the day at Chatsworth House and our our evening meal at the Devonshire Arms. Out of six meals two had to sent back, they had gone cold, the waitress did take them back to the kitchen but when they came back they had become dry. The restaurant manager took the price of the two meals off our bill and gave us all complimentary puddings, situation dealt with well. We did intend to eat in again on the Sunday but decided to eat in a local pub, the food and service both very good. On Monday we asked for a 9am breakfast, we arrived on time but breakfast did not arrive until just after 10am, the full English breakfast came minus sausages. Overall I think for the price of our three night stay it fell well below our expectations, service and standards need to be improved. I get the impression that the pub is relying on its name. The ultimate test for any break or holiday is, would I return and would I recommend it, the answer to both questions is No. The pub desperately lacks a focal point such as a lounge with a nice log fire.

We were staying at Stoney Middleton over night and wanted some were to eat, and the Devonshire Arms was only 3 miles away. What a great choice, the food and service was excellent, the inside felt just right and the cost was really OK for the quality that you received. Would certainly recommend it to any one.

We booked for the 3 course lunch which was outstanding and to top it off our pooch was welcome too! We usually find that dogs are only welcome in more 'pub grub' places so it was great to be able to have high quality food and bring the dog along too. All the staff were really friendly and accommodating and the restaurant itself was lovely inside. Would definitely recommend!

Our two days away at this hotel were relaxing and we liked our farmhouse room very much. Dinners had a well-considered menu and the staff were most helpful and friendly. Being within walking distance of the Chatsworth Farm Shop was another plus point. We hope to return.
