Get there from Cairns via a spectacular 45 minute drive along Captain Cook Highway. Elevated on stilts, 83 eco designed timber bungalows are discretely concealed within the forest canopy, blending in with the natural environment and feature ocean, mountain or forest views. Panoramic views are enjoyed from open-sided Osprey's Restaurant across the forest canopy and beyond to the Coral Sea. Guests and visitors dine amongst birds in the surrounding treetops, whilst enjoying modern Australian cuisine with friendly and attentive service. Granite boulders, waterfalls and overhanging trees create natural swimming pools blending discretely within the environment. The staff here are really the highlight. All of them were welcoming, friendly and always available to assist or have a chat. The location itself is stunning. The rooms very much eco friendly and getting around is interesting given the number of inclines. There is not much else to do here other than sit around, eat and drink so we found ourselves travelling around more than staying in. Also its not overly mobility friendly given the only way to the restaurant (as well as the rooms) involves stairs, so that became a bit of a struggle as we travelled with a person with mobility limitations.

We had 5 wonderful nights here in June, upgrading to the sea view bungalow for four nights (No. 51) after one night in the Eucalypt bungalow. This gave us a brighter room, a coastal outlook and views through the trees. The food and restaurant views were exceptional and staff very friendly. Loved the variety of birds (and a monitor lizard) being in the trees in front of us during our meals. We really enjoyed the two on-site tours we did with Brett and Dave. They showed us different things around the property, pointing out things we wouldn't have noticed on our own. If we didn't feel like walking to the restaurant or carpark, the electric buggy was quick to pick us up. We visited Port Douglas, 15 minutes away, a couple of times. We would 100% recommend staying here and hope to return.

Immaculate rooms and central facilities. Stunning views of the FNQ coast & rainforests Our rooms were nestled amongst the rain forest. Meals were outstanding, breakfasts second to none ! Walks, beaches, pools and wildlife on the 145 acres. Very relaxing A passionate tour of the rainforest flora and fauna by Brett & Rodney

My partner and I stayed at Thala for a week in May and had the most wonderful stay. We were using our trip to Port Douglas to relax after a busy year so far, and Thala was the perfect place to do that. The staff at Thala were incredible. So friendly, nothing was too much of a hassle for them, chatty and attentive. They really made the resort special. The restaurant was lovely - we ate dinner a few times and breakfast/lunch. Besides the beautiful views, the food was delicious and again, service wonderful. The steak is a MUST! Cocktails were also great. The pool is beautiful and a great place to relax with poolside cocktails. The private beach is wonderful with hammocks. One night, we got a seafood, meat and cheese picnic basket with a bottle of Prosecco which was a highlight, you can get this to your room, the beach or at the bar/lounge area. I also got a massage which I would highly recommend! Our room was lovely and well equipped with everything we would need. We didn't get a car for the trip as we have been to FNQ a couple of times and did all of the adventurous stuff. The shuttle was easy to get from Thala > Port Douglas however if you plan to go in a lot I would recommend a car. Already desperate to go back!

Just spent a week at Thala, both of us had physical "challenges". The staff went out of their way to accommodate us. Our bungalow was first class and right in the trees; the meals at the restaurant were delicious and there was plenty to do around the resort. All the staff deserve accolades and special thanks to Diane who helped plan a holiday above our expectations.
