My son and I were on a cross country bicycle trip, camping most of the way. But every once in a while we needed a little luxury, like a soft be and a shower. When we came across the Ryan it was perfect. The price was reasonable and the place was very clean. We stayed in room 16, which had to bonus of two sinks along with two queen beds. The AC was chillin’ we even had to turn it down (in July) it was so cold.
This little family owned and run place even had a special locked bike storage area. They loaned us a few rags to we could get the dust off the bikes, before we headed to the showers. The town was great too. We found some excellent food and beverage choices. (We ate at the Goat). In the morning the Ryan had coffee and some light breakfast fare to kick us off on our ride.
Great place, fits the Western Mountain vibe perfectly.

We stayed here in May before Memorial Day. It has I think only 11 or 12 rooms, all on one level so there is no chance of another guest stomping around over your head late at night. The hotel was full when we stayed but it was pleasant and quiet. The building is very historic and charming, and while the rooms are not particularly historic-looking or fancy, everything was meticulously clean. Our room was 9, the Dante’s Peak room, decorated after the late 1990s film which was filmed in Wallace. Donna and her husband own the hotel and live on site which is helpful. The front door is kept locked but guests receive actual keys on fobs with both room and front door key so you can come and go. The lobby, upstairs (no elevator here), has coffee and tea, cocoa and a small selection of breakfast foods available after 7 am until 9. This hotel is reportedly haunted though we had no experiences ourselves, instead a blissfully quiet night. Beds and bedding were very good, towels sufficient and usual quality used by bigger hotels. The soap and shampoo are liquid in dispensers mounted in the shower, which was the only goofy point: the shower head was very low, hitting our tallest member in the chest. I still liked it better than those modern fancy rain heads. The water temp and pressures were both perfect. There were chocolates, not on the pillows but the idea was observed. No TV but a microwave and mini fridge. (There is only one room in the hotel with a TV that is a two room suite.) Inroom temperature control via a combination window AC and heater was good and there were warm blankets on the beds (all the big hotels we were at didn’t do that). Wifi is available. The best reason to stay here is the history and the friendly owners. We came away very pleased.

It's essential to remember what you are signing up for. You're desire is to stay in a hotel that's well over 100 years old. There weren't elevators then. There weren't microwaves or refrigerators in the room. There wasn't even electricity. The owners have done a pretty good job of making it comfortable, but obviously unless they are excellent at all trades there is a financial limit as to how far they can go.... Total disclosure I do this for a living, so I tend to be more critical of people and their attempts to remodel... At 1st I was very critical, but upon reflection it was a very comfortable night. The bed was comfy lots of pillows and plenty of blankets. You couldn't ask for a better location, but avoid the blackboard... It's a lot on hype and little on delivery, the fainting goat is the better bet and worth the 2 minute walk.
The only thing I'd advise is to get rid of that silly scent machine on the stairway, old buildings have character, yes even a smell.
Some will find this place lacking and gripe about things from outlets to summer heat, these are people who lack adventure who have been caudled by modern times. This place isn't for them. But if you're open to the spirit of your ancestors and want just a little more luxury this is your place.
I would stay here again.

The pillows are the bomb as well as Donna, making sure that your every request is addressedand that you are as comfortable as Family can be. The historic presence is very homey, clean, and updated, yet preserves the vibe of the town and business. It’s great to see this small town revived and thriving. The shopping is extremely interesting and has an appeal for nearly anyone visiting the area.

This is a great place as a base for a Trail of the CDA's bike ride or the Hiawatha Trail. The room was spotless and Donna, our hostess, was very helpful with restaurant advice. There is a storage for bikes at the hotel, but it is a very safe location, and after the first night, we just locked them on our car rack. We stayed in room #1 three nights. Our bathroom was a little tight, but not a problem for us at all. Love this town. Will always stay here in the future.

While others may not rate this place a 5, because of things it lacks, I'm rating a 5 because it's exactly as advertised. This is an old, historic hotel. I read the reviews on TA and the description on their website, so I knew exactly what I was getting.
What you will get: A super clean room. A comfortable bed. A great location. Convenient to the highway and in a walk-able town. Super friendly hosts. There's coffee, juice, fruit and breakfast bars put out in the morning to get your day started. Great wi-fi. It's the only access we had on our phone for about a hundred miles. Which isn't a bad thing. We had no data anywhere in the northern ID and western MT, west of Missoula. Our bathroom was really small, but it did the trick. The sink was outside of the bathroom. We had a huge closet, which made me think that would have made a better bathroom. But I'm sure the logistics of switching it would be a nightmare and expensive.
Our room did not have air conditioning or tv, but I knew that going in. It did have a refrigerator. We were there just ahead of the heat wave, so our room was comfortable at night with the window open and the fan running.
Our main reason for visiting northern ID was to ride the Route of the Hiawatha. Wallace is the closest town to the route. Which is why I chose it. I love the history of the town. I love that it's walk-able. I agree with what others have said, if you looking for all the amenities that chain hotels have, go down the road to a different town, but if you're looking for a unique experience, in a very cool town and a good night's sleep the Ryan Hotel is the place for you. While I wouldn't call the Ryan hotel a B & B, since a full breakfast isn't available, it has the feel of one and I love that about this place.

We enjoyed a one night stay here. We set up our reservation a month prior to our stay and your credit card is charged when the reservation is made. You ring a doorbell at street level to be let into the building and then are given a room and main door key to go in and out. We enjoyed walking to a nearby restaurant for dinner and parked on the street in front of the hotel for our entire stay. The room was a nice size and clean with a shower and toilet in one room and the sink in the main hotel room. It was a little chilly in the room but had it’s own small room heater that helped warm it up. Breakfast was coffee, tea, some fruit and granola bars. Overall a nice stay and fun town to explore. In the past we’ve always just driven through and wanted to spend time here.

Wallace is a charming historical town with lots to explore. Ryan Hotel is right in the heart of town with everything in easy walking distance. I loved our room, including the claw footed tub for soaking. The hosts went out of their way to make us feel welcome and to check in with us throughout our visit (we were close to the desk). I highly recommend, and don’t miss out on the Italian restaurant next door. It’s a hidden gem.

We chose to stay in Wallace to take advantage of the Hiawatha Trail. We were not disappointed either by Wallace, the Hiawatha Trail or this hotel's accommodations! Built in 1903 this is a very solid building kept beautifully clean and welcoming. Our room was a 2 room suite, perfect for our needs. We overlooked Cedar Street and directly opposite the Oasis Bordello. Unfortunately, due to COVID the Bordello was closed so we will have to plan a trip another time to take in more of the sights that Wallace has to offer. The host was very accommodating and helpful - we enjoyed her recommendation of a huckleberry breakfast at The Brooks Hotel just down the street. Everything was clean, comfortable and well maintained. Loved having a fridge in the room as we stayed the hottest weekend of the year so far! The only downside of a turn of the century hotel was that we didn't have AC in our room. There was a fan in each room but it was pretty stuffy in the evening. Highly recommend!

We loved staying at The Ryan in June 2022 - This hotel is exactly what we were looking for. The historical appeal to the rooms is awesome. Yes, there are no TV but then back in the olden days there was no TV. Loved the claw bathtub to take a bath. The hotel is also centrally located in downtown so you can walk to all the restaurants and bars. We will stay here again, just not in the summer as the room did get warm and there didn't seem to be any air conditioning.
