Stay was overall very enjoyable.
Resort setting could not be any better. Superb views.
Room was also comfortable. Laundry done as fast as needed.
Food was good although it was a bit heavy.
The chef did his best to accommodate our dietary needs so all good :)

We found the chimp trekking to be a bit of a letdown but the resort is not to blame since this was an external experience.

I would definitely recommend Nyungwe House to anyone visiting Rwanda.

We have just finished a truly amazing 6 night stay at the One & Only Nyungwe House. We could easily have spent several more nights here. The location is beautifully set in the middle of a working tea plantation surrounded by amazingly lush mountains. All management and staff were extremely friendly and helpful throughout our visit. Our room was 1st class in all aspects, we loved it. It was very quiet. We spent a lot of time relaxing out on the private balcony listening to and watching wildlife in the forest.

The meals were very good. All the ingredients were locally grown or procured. Dinners were typically 6 or 7 courses. Lunches were very diverse with many different items served and breakfast was great. There are no menus here, so different courses just show up. The resort had reached out in advance of our arrival to find out if we had any specific dietary needs/limitations, which we did. Everything they served during our visit was great and consistent with our dietary limitations, no issues whatsoever.

You can be as active or as relaxed as you want. There are a significant number of different treks you can do in the Nyungwe Forest (we did the Chimpanzee Trek among others). There are a lot of different activities you can do on the resort property as well as off property. We spent many hours at the local school with the kids and teachers, it was one of the most memorable parts of our trip to Rwanda. Ann and Sam and the team can set up almost anything!

We were able to spend some good quality time with Jacques, the General Manager, Ann, the Front Office Manager, and several of their team (Sam, Armani, and John in particular). We really enjoyed these discussions and learned a lot.

Overall this was an amazing trip to an incredibly special place. We will go back soon!

This was our third camp of six, on a three week/three country safari (also our first safari). I recommend arriving by helicopter not only because it cuts off a long drive (after long overnight travel), it is a wonderful way to see Rwanda, the land of 1,000 hills. One and Only is located within a gorgeous tea plantation, lush and green; serene and relaxing. We arrived to a nice drum reception, and we liked the staff’s hand over heart gesture which “conveys sincerity and respect, and to show the greeting comes from the heart”. We loved how the rooms are tucked away along the forest where we could sit on our back patio and watch the monkeys. The photos on the web site are accurate, inside and out. The common areas maximize the lovely views. We had been sitting in planes and game drives for about eight days so wanted to do some walking as we had several treks coming up in Rwanda. We enjoyed a “nature” walk with Gahdi in the afternoon. We heard there is a “nocturnal walk”, and while we had no idea what that meant, we arranged to walk with Sam at dusk. I didn’t really know what conversation to have, so asked about a tree … turns out Sam is more of a cultural expert so we enjoyed his sharing some history of Rwanda, the importance of spears and archery to the country, etc. I relished in a four part spa experience with Betty, who is very talented! The pool is lovely, and the only one on our entire trip that was heated. Each night we enjoyed pre-dinner drinks at the bar chatting with Fabrice. After being over served on safari food, we enjoyed the fact that while the courses were delightful, they were a bit smaller – appropriately sized. We loved the variety Chef Louise served; everything was very fresh. When we came back from the chimpanzee trek, Betty and another woman were there to give us mini neck and shoulder massages. One and Only was a beautiful location, and very relaxing atmosphere to unwind after traveling and taking in the chimpanzee trek and canopy walk.

From the moment you set eyes on this beautiful property you will be blown away by the hospitality and great service from all the beautiful people that call Nyungwe House their place of work. The friendliness and sense of humour displayed makes you feel part of the family straight away.
The attention to detail in the rooms, the food served under the stars and the location amongst the tea plantation makes this a very special place.

I spent 3 nights here in March and it was one of the highlights of my trip. The resort is located within a tea plantation and adjacent to the national park. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking! The suites are separated from others so you feel like you have the place to yourself. I was able to see monkeys directly from my suite balcony on several occasions and that was phenomenal. Nyungwe House has many on-site activities including an introduction to tea. You go into the plantation and learn what types of leaves the workers are picking in addition to how they are paid. At the end, you taste several teas along with a few sweet nibbles. Nyungwe House is also in an excellent position for chimpanzee and Colobus monkey trekking. Very convenient.

As others have mentioned, the restaurant does not have a menu. The food is what is in season and available. I'm a vegetarian and it was no problem--in most cases, my menu was created just for me. The food is fresh and flavorful and a great mix of African and other cuisines. There was always plenty of food. I never went hungry.

The staff are very helpful and friendly. Ann, the front office manager, and Jacques, the general manager, set great examples and interact with guests.

I had a spa treatment (thank you for the excellent massage Celina!) and spent some time enjoying the views from the pool.

Overall a great stay. I can't wait to return.

This was our first one & only experience. Mostly couldn’t fault it. The location is stunning in a tea plantation overlooking the forest. Birds and monkeys abound. What could beat sitting on your balcony watching colobus monkeys as the sun goes down?
Staff are all overly trained to the point where it doesn’t feel natural. The constant hand to the heart became a bit of a joke to us. It all feels a little out on. Anne however was lovely and really helpful.
Food is locally sourced and they cook what they have rather than a menu. Beautiful but over fussy food.
2 issues
1. Our room was magnificent. Beautifully decorated and all mod cons but the walls were paper thin and joined to other lodges so snoring from next door was heard. For such a high end property more privacy would have been expected
2. When we arrived we are asked in depth about our dietary requirements. We are vegetarian and one of us is allergic to avocado. We thought this would get through to the chef and staff but at each meal we had to tell them again. The worst was that a dessert was served with a jelly that when we asked contained pork gelatine. Unacceptable really and an apology didn’t really help.
It left us feeling negative about what should have been a truly remarkable place

I am truly lost for words to describe this resort, it’s location, and service. But I’m going to try anyway 😀 . Right from the warm welcome with drums, dance and a delicious drink, then the warmest hospitality throughout our stay, the awe-inspiring location surrounded by lush tea plantations, the beautiful rooms with everything we’d ever want for, the tiniest detail attended to, this Resort is unparalleled luxury and unique in every way possible. In house activities are tailor made for every guest. Dining set up in a different place every day. Amazing food and everyone right from the Management, Dee, Ryan, to all the staff, Grace, Denise, (I could go on) have etched beautiful memories for me and my family.

One & Only Nyungwe House was our favorite of all the places we stayed in Rwanda. The setting in the tea plantation is breathtaking and the rooms have everything you could possibly need and some things you did not know you wanted. Ryan and the rest of the staff are all so welcoming and will take every opportunity to make sure your stay is perfect.

We enjoyed so much about this lodge! Our stay here was at the end of our trip and we needed some downtime to relax from the busy week. This place fit the bill. We did do the chimpanzee trek from here, which requires a very early morning departure, but we got back early enough that we had plenty of time to relax and enjoy just being there. Do take advantage of the tea tasting and tour that is offered. Grace does an amazing job with this and is very knowledgeable. The pool is incredible and makes for that perfect vacation picture. The spa is nice as well.
There are other activities offered, but we did not take advantage of them.

One of our favorite things about Nyungwe House is the approach to dining. Not once over two days did we enjoy a meal in the same spot. There are tables set up in various spots around the tea plantation and you can eat surrounded by nothing but nature. One night dinner was in the dining room, then next night was a bbq at the pool. The food was incredible, everything was fresh and Chef Louise created some unique combinations that strangely worked. The welcome drink of tree tomato tea was hit with our teenage daughter. She asked for it every chance she had, and they happily brought it to her. I only wish we had asked for the recipe.

The rooms may not be as fancy as some of the other One & Only locations, but that does not mean they are not nice. The décor and amenities are fitting for the location as a lodge, but they are far from basic. You will want for nothing. The main lodge is nicely decorated and a lovely gathering place. There is a fire pit area for those cool nights if you wish to sit and enjoy the peace and serenity of nature. We will definitely stay here again on a return trip to Rwanda, but we will make sure to allow more time to simply enjoy the lodge and what it has to offer.

This was an absolutely once in a lifetime experience. From the moment we arrived, nothing was too much to ask for. The upgrade to a family suite was a welcome surprise. The setting of the hotel with the incredibly high standards makes this an exceptional property. They even laundered our swimming costumes on the morning of our departure so we don't travel with wet clothes! This was definitely One, if not the Only property that encompassed the complete experience. Definitely recommended and worth every cent.

My stay at this magnificent property was superior in every aspect. The lodge itself is magnificent and set in an extraordinary tea plantation. The main salons are beautifully furnished and offer great comfort and opportunity to gather with other guests.
The bedrooms are attractive (not the high point of my stay) but could be furnished with more artistic sensibility.
The food is excellent and beautifully presented.
The entire staff is superb-gracious, hospitable, and professional.
The warmth of all the employees added to my stay being a most pleasing experience.
Grace was an excellent guide for birding and touring the property.
I did not go chimp tracking but I heard it was very trying and difficult. I did trek for the Colobus monkey which was also very difficult. I really feel the lodge should try to clear the paths so that there are no accidents.
I enjoyed swimming in the beautiful pool and was helped by the kind and capable young pool assistant.
I highly recommend this property for a unique and luxurious experience.
