Excellent boutique hotel in the Kalahari. The interior, exterior and gardens were beautifully decorated by an artist from Stellenbosch together with local artists help. The hotel has a lovely vibrant and lively feel to it. Each of the 9 rooms are differently decorated and there is a gorgeous Honeymoon room too, complete with Kingsize bed, bath, double vanity and showers, as well as a private garden with an outside shower.
The pool is sparkling clean and a treat in the hot afternoon. The bar has an excellent athmosphere and drinks are very affordable. Beakfast is included and there is a discounted rate for 2 nights or more. The dinner menu is not large but food excellent. We chose Lamb curry and Lamb shank, both amazing good ! There is a large secure, shaded parking area behind the hotel and they even supply electricity points for fridge freezers. They also have a special package for guests who want to have lunch at "Kleinjan Restaurant" at Tswalu Game Reserve and do not want to sleep over at the lodge there.
Real oasis in the Kalahari, which one cannot miss !!

Not our first trip to this hotel and it never disappointing. Rooms are comfortable and clean, the restaurant food is superb and overall experience very good. The Hotel features some interesting art work all around and has a nice pool to cool off. There is also a nice sand dune close by that you can drive or clime onto for sun downers.
The place to stay in van Zylsrus.

Vanzylsrus is the ideal place to overnight if you are travelling from Gauteng to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
It looks like a one-horse town with the horse having departed a long time ago but appearances can be deceptive.
The hotel is odd and quirky with interesting artwork everywhere you look.
The food is excellent and I've never had a better lamb shank anywhere.
This was the third time I've stayed at the hotel and is a must when travelling to the park. Luddy and the staff go out of their way to make you feel at home and there's a great bar. Do yourself a favour, soak up the Kalahari and overnight there!

We booked because we had a luncheon in Tswalu Game Reserve but this hotel was THE highlight. Quirky, fun, friendly, The bar is a central point for all the locals and tourists alike. It buzzes! The restaurant is outstanding with local, country fare. The rooms big and comfortable. The owners are always present and you feel they are on top of things.A real destination! They even have a fun curio shop!

We really enjoyed our stay at this quirky hotel in the Kalahari. The hotel was clean, service was great and the staff was so friendly. This is a great place to experience some Afrikaans culture. The food and decor are uniquely South African. It was so nice to get off the dusty road from Askham and arrive at this little oasis.

What an exceptional find in the middle of nowhere!! This is like finding an Oasis in the desert. The quirkiness is an art form. You can see the owners Talent, artistic expression and passion in everything. The rooms are eclectic and fun. The bar is just THE BEST. But wow the food!! Sheeps tails and shanks are a must. The staff are just the friendliest warnest people. Cannot recommend highly enough! A proper burst of colour and enthusiasm on a neutral landscape

This is by far a must sleep over in the Kalahari.
On route to the Kgalagadi National Park, a real country hotel, super atmosphere, food and rooms.
Albie and personnel will surely see that you will not forget this experience.

On our way from Jo'burg to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park this April, we decided to stop over in Van Zylsrus before tackling the last stretch of the road to Tweerivieren. We hadn't booked in advance and were pleasantly surprised to discover the fusion of old-school hospitality and almost-hippy backpacker spirit that is the Van Zylsrus Hotel.

The hotel is understandably quite full throughout the year - we were lucky to get the last room. The rooms are pretty, the courtyard seems otherworldly with its fountains and mosaic art, the food is wholesome (try the springbok shank!), the included breakfast a whopper, and the people are honest and friendly.

We decided to stop over again on our return to Jozi and enjoyed it as much as the first time 'round.

We'll be back. One day.
