High in the North Georgia Mountains is Amicalola Falls State Park home of Amicalola Falls Lodge. Named after the Cherokee word for “tumbling waters” Amicalola Falls is one of the most popular state parks in Georgia. The park’s namesake is the 729-foot falls: the highest cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi River. The park is also the start of the 8-mile approach trail to Springer Mountain, the southern end of the 2,150-mile Appalachian Trail. The Lodge was built in 1990 by the State of Georgia, with 56 guestrooms in the main lodge and 14 cabins along with a gift shop, meeting space and a mountain view restaurant. The lodge rooms vary from standard hotel rooms with 2 double beds, loft suites that can sleep 6, to king bed suites with private balconies. The Lodge also is home to The Maple Restaurant that offers breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. The Lodge rests on 829 acres with on-site activities that include stream or pond fishing, as well as more than twelve miles of hiking trails, several centering on viewing the spectacular 729-foot waterfall. Amicalola Falls Lodge features more than 4,000 square feet of meeting space that can host groups and social events consisting of up to 150 people in traditional meeting spaces as well as a unique outdoor veranda setting. The Lodge’s spectacular view, peaceful setting, and exceptional service make it a destination not to be missed while in the North Georgia Mountains.

Incredible views! Guest rooms and offerings need updating! Food and service are ok; need to increase offerings since store and other restaurants are not convenient; I guess since it is state-owned, they do not put money back in the lodge. It has potential to be an incredible facility.

WOW!!!!! The view was AMAZING. We booked the last room available and got 2 queens + loft. It was roomy, comfortable and had fabulous views. The check-in ladies were super nice and very accommodating. The look out deck is just amazing. And being able to walk to the steps of the falls so easily made it a perfect spot! We did eat breakfast here. And were a little bummed that none of the items were refreshed/replenished and it was pricey - almost $50 for 3 of us to have breakfast buffet. We also had dinner there. Mainly because it was worth it not to have to drive 30 mins each way to get somewhere. The chicken parmesan was good, the salad bar was good but the items were never replenished/refreshed. The service, however, was very good. They were nice, helpful and friendly. They even offered us coffee/water in to go cups as we left, which i thought was a nice touch. Overall, we loved this place and will definitely plan to return!

The lodge was nice and the people were very nice. I was disappointed that my room didn’t have a fridge, but I didn’t check on it when I booked it. So, I should have checked on that. Nearest store is like 20-25 minutes away. So, if you need anything—grab it before you get there! We personally did not care for the restaurant inside the lodge—we went into Dawsonville for dinners. We ate at a hibachi restaurant named Osaka. It was wonderful and the wait staff were so funny! We also ate at Fajita Grill, excellent!

The view from first floor rooms with private patio worth every penny. Employees very friendly and helpful. Wonderful access to falls. Maple restaurant breakfast good but dinner buffets just ok. You have large patio access to view sunsets if you don’t have first floor room.
